Enable either IMAP or POP:
https://mail.google.com/a/ncsu.edu/?AuthEventSource=SSO#settings/fwdandpop

IMAP Instructions:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=75726

POP Instructions:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=12103

Also before you can do any of this I think you have to change your unity password once. Sort of like an initialization thing for security purposes.

^ Yes. it all goes through the gmail servers now.

One thing I hate, correct me if you can fix it. Labels != folders. I set my "folders" back up in gmail with filters to them, but they are really just labels, and dont copy over to outlook

^ Yes, you keep your @ncsu.edu address for life from now on:

Quote :
"As an added benefit, students will be able to access these tools using their existing e-mail addresses, which will still carry the tag @ncsu.edu. And now, instead of losing their NC State e-mail addresses when they graduate, students will keep them for life."

That quote is buried in this posting:

Fucking awesome deal. I too, was running out of space. The default theme did not look good, so I changed it to something better (IMO anyway).

Go there and uncheck the "Show my web clips above the Inbox" box. I also removed everything in the list for good measure.

I feel like an idiot for asking this, but has anybody had any luck setting up the new email account on the iphone? I feel like an old person for being unable to figure this out. Setting it up as a Gmail account doesn't work, but neither does setting it up as "Other". WTF?

Incoming Mail Server:

As long as you have reset your password, this should work

email address: unityid@ncsu.edu
password: yourpassword

username: unityid@ncsu.edu
IMAP
imap.gmail.com
port: 993
-ssl

smtp.gmail.com
port: 465*
-ssl*

The last 2 starred settings I am not sure on, try tls if ssl doesn't work first. if neither work, try changing port to 587

Hope this helps.

I'm fucking pissed off that I rolled my shit over to this garbage. I can no longer login from Firefox... it gives me the following message each time I try:

Anybody have advice? I just upgraded to the newest version of Firefox, and the shit still isn't working.

Hey guys, I work for OIT and if you're looking to get it to work with Thunderbird, here's your answer:

1. Go to http://www.ncsu.edu/password and change your password. This is required, because this is the only way that the google IMAP/SMTP servers will sync up properly. Don't ask why; it's really weird.

2. Go to Thunderbird and create a new account.

3. IMAP server is: imap.gmail.com, port 993

4. Username for IMAP is: unityIDgoeshere@ncsu.edu

5. Password for IMAP is: Your unity ID password

6. Connection security for IMAP is: SSL/TLS. Do not check "Secure Authentication."

7. SMTP server is: smtp.gmail.com, port 465

8. Username for SMTP is: unityIDgoeshere@ncsu.edu

9. Connection security for SMTP is: SSL/TLS. Do not check "Secure Authentication."

You should be good to go after that.

I don't work in the same IT department as the mail guys work at, but this is how I was able to get it to work with Thunderbird.

UNC has just chosen Microsoft Live@EDU. 25 gigs of storage space per student, and it is going to integrate well with faculty/staff campus wide exchange that is being built.
