98% of the non-Jewish population have never heard of these boxes. try again

It has nothing to do with his race...white Americans can be just as crazy as brown Arabs It has everything to do with the fact that he's strapping boxes onto his body and muttering in a foreign tongue.

I assure you, there are a lot of things you are ignorant to, especially considering how much of a racist you are.

1. Religious zealots have made repeated attempts to blow up passenger jets.

2. Aside from 9/11, all such attempts (that come to mind) have invloved an explosive device attached to the terrorist's body.

3. Therefore, only a redneck American with delusions of crusades and NASCAR would be suspicious of an overtly religious young man chanting in a foreign tongue while strapping unfamiliar devices to his body.

How's that for a logical fallacy?

2. Aside from 9/11, all such attempts (that come to mind) have invloved an explosive device attached to the terrorist's body. Two such notable incidents were shoes and underwear.

3. Therefore, whenever I see anyone wearing shoes or underwear, since these were both used in attempted attacks, I believe they are terrorists.

the plane was leaving from LaGuardia, I'm shocked half the plane didn't start an uproar that they had to land somewhere else, because I bet most of them knew what it was.

And in how many of those cases was the bomb not already strapped to the body? What terrorist straps a bomb to his body AFTER he gets on the plane? And more specifically, attach it to his head and forearm? Not exactly incognito.

Plus he obviously made it past security with his WOOD boxes, its not like they were made of lead. This shows a lack of trust in airport security even after all the beef-ups over the past 8 years.

Of course there's a lack of trust in airport security! A month ago a dude managed to get a bomb past them!

And yeah, the South isn't exactly full of Jews, but like I said, Grimsley High School sure was. We had liberal barely-Jewish Jews, and we had plenty of conservative, Jewy-Jews, too, and everything in between. And not once, not one single solitary time, in all the discussion about religion in class and clubs, not in all my friendships or social engagements, did I ever, ever see or hear mention of a dude strapping boxes to himself.

I'd love to do a poll of people in NY to see how many people up there recognize the practice. I think you're dramatically overstating their familiarity with it.

The point is that the terrorists won.

People are so afraid they're turning each other. They're turning on each other over nothing.

"Turning on each other?" Really? They didn't rip the guy to pieces or throw him out of the plane.

So a lunatic who kicked in the cockpit door and shouted orders to passengers was subdued a little bit roughly. I don't get the impression they were even thinking about terrorism, they were thinking that it's a bad idea to let a crazy person loose on a plane.

There are situations where greater degrees of violence are appropriate. This guy starts running around the street, you probably don't need to get a bunch of guys to jump on him. This guy starts running around on a plane full of people that he could inadvertently kill, yeah, you jump on him.

oh boy, where to begin.

first, lack of trust in airport security? really? I suppose you forgot about all the successful failed attempts in the past 6 months alone. Successful in the sense that they made it past airport security but failed over all because of the alert passengers and crew. Contrary to your belief, the last line of defense is not TSA.

and in response to your first paragraph...do you really think that the terrorists try the exact same methods over and over? Every time its something new, which then leads to some new security procedure for TSA. So to say that all terrorist attempts will involve devices that are already strapped to their body BEFORE boarding the plane is just ignorant.

TSA patted me down after finding this in my bag a couple of years ago:

It is a simple metal pointer used while reading from the Torah. It shouldn't cause any more need for concern than a bald-point pen, but they saw it as a reason to make me a person of suspect.

This kid had a wooden box, which as far as I know does not block x-rays. They would have known if something suspicious was inside and checked.

^And you obviously misunderstood my point. If I'm bringing a bomb on a plane I don't keep it in my bag and then pull it out and strap it to my forehead in front of everyone nonchalantly. Like you said, alert passengers would notice.

my point is you don't know the possibilities or great lengths they will go to to get something on board. This device they pull out of their bag might be there because thats the only way they could sneak it past security for whatever reason.

What exactly is your point about the pen/metal object? I get singled out in line BEFORE ever going through security for a 'random' search all the time and all I ever carry on me is a small suitcase of clothes and a back pack with a laptop.

The times that I don't get picked before going through a metal detecter I get picked after even though nothing about me or what I'm carrying is suspicious or any different then the other travelers.

Its because they take one look at you, know you're a douche, and say "hey, how can we make this guy's day worse?"

The cutting-edge skyscrapering emirate is hardly a normal society; neither is it a democracy or (as we now know) a country free of its own economic problems. But middle-class people from all over the Muslim world continue to travel there; they admire its business-friendly regulatory environment and its respect for personal liberty. They often go home and wonder why their own countries are so poorly governed."
