it's not that outrageous. I don't necessarily agree or anything because I'm not an expert on Ali or anything but I think Simmons made some decent points

Quote :
"PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he is returning to golf at the Masters.

"The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect. After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta," Woods said in a statement.

"The major championships have always been a special focus in my career and, as a professional, I think Augusta is where I need to be, even though it's been a while since I last played."

The Masters begins on April 8.

Woods has been on an indefinite leave from the game since a Nov. 27 crash outside his Florida home spawned revelations of marital infidelity. He has not played since Nov. 15, when he won the Australian Masters in Melbourne for his 82nd career victory.

"I have undergone almost two months of inpatient therapy and I am continuing my treatment," Woods said. "Although I'm returning to competition, I still have a lot of work to do in my personal life.

"When I finally got into a position to think about competitive golf again, it became apparent to me that the Masters would be the earliest I could play. I called both Joe Lewis and Arnold Palmer and expressed my regrets for not attending the Tavistock Cup and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. I again want to thank them both for their support and their understanding. Those are fantastic tournaments and I look forward to competing in them again.

"I would also like to thank the Augusta National members and staff for their support. I have deep appreciation for everything that they do to create a wonderful event for the benefit of the game.""

smart choice - the masters has the most respectable galleries on the pga tour; plus they are a lot smaller than other tournaments.

Shoulda came back to Bay Hill; he needs a warm up tournament and its 20 mins from his house

Coming back straight into a Major is not a good idea...he missed the cut the last time he tried it

I'm just now getting to see some of the Tiger press conference from earlier today. I like that he answered every question and seemed humble.

Few things that came out of the presser:

Never took steroids from Galea
Had 5 stitches in his lip and a sore neck after the wreck
Wasn't addicted to pain killers
Missed his son's first birthday due to therapy
Surprised by the big fan support on the course today

I haven't seen the whole thing, just the highlights on ESPN so far.

^ to me the most interesting is that he came out with info that while his knee was messed up, he also had a torn achilles. That makes his accomplishments even greater in my book. I have a hard time seeing him making the cut and play on the weekend though.

^you mis-heard. He fucked up his achilles while rehabbing his knee, which doesn't explain why he lost the Masters and PGA last year due to an inability to make putts. It wasn't fucked up when he won the US Open.

and for the record, him coming back this week has nothing to do with trying to win the masters. He needed a major to practice before waxing the field at Pebble and St. Andrews.

his credibility is at zero. as far as public opinion is concerned, he is no better than bonds. He better fucking prove he didnt take HGH with that doctor.

I mean, why the FUCK do you go to that guy (of the millions of worldwide available doctors) to get treated? Especially AFTER the steroid scandal.

An Augusta National SAM was fired from the cupola on the clubhouse shortly after that picture was taken and destroyed that Cessna. Augusta will not allow controversy of any kind on its grounds

Heard on the radio he withdrew after 7 holes today complaining about a neck problem and will have an MRI at the beginning of the week.

I didn't see any footage, but something about this screams bullshit to me.

I don't know what the fuck you and every media member is thinking when you start talking about his neck injury and saying its bullshit.

Seems logical to me, that he got beat in the head with a 9 iron in december before ramming his escalade into a tree...and is now having some neck issues.

So yes, it does scream bullshit, if you say/think his neck injury is from golf. I heard about this all day yesterday and nobody mentioned the wreck, which fucked his car up pretty good.

^agreed. Golf is one of the worst possible sports (behind football and maybe a couple of others) for your neck and back. All the twisting, especially at the high swing speeds can make for some nasty problems. If you think about it, a golfer's head should remain still while the rest of his body rotates around it, it's the same as if you twist your head and neck really quickly. For these pros and their swing speeds, there's some serious stress on the spine and associated muscles.

Such hostility.

It screams bullshit because he walked off the course with 11 holes remaining in a tournament and no one had any inclination that he was "injured" at all.

Remember when he was beating Rocco on literally one leg to win his last major? THAT is why I initially doubted what was going on. He can battle through that, and even play an extra 18, but he can't finish despite the fact he was under par for the tourney with this same "injury" the previous 3 days. It just didn't fit.

If you heard about this all day and didn't hear the wreck mentioned, you must not have been paying any attention either. That was literally the first question asked at the PC he attended yesterday. He said there was "zero connection", but again, who knows what to believe anymore...
