Lost 6-3. We outhit them pretty well, but didn't get a lot of big RBI scoring hits.

Great start to the season though. If we can start getting some more big hits to produce more runs we should fare very well the rest of the season.

Just saw Coastal Carolina is ranked 10th in the ESPN poll. Not really a bad loss at all.

Game today is canceled, will play Xavier tomorrow at 3pm as a makeup. Xavier is playing Duke today in Cary. Hopefully we can get revenge for last year.

Beat Xavier 10-7 the other day. Beat Quinnipiac today 17-6.

Team's 8-1. Real early but looking a ton better than last year.

Starting rotation is looking good. Bullpen can be shaky at times, but if our offense keeps going, we could beat anyone. Hopefully Quinnipiac wont hit as many batters today as they did in game. Drew Poulk got hit in the head after hitting a grand slam. Game 2 tomorrow at 2pm.

Let's talk about a team that has a chance to be good for once.

17-6, 14-3, 17-7 sweep of Quinnipiac. Offense is rolling. NCA&T tomorrow and then @ Clemson this weekend for first ACC series.

Clemson is normally pretty good, right? Should be another good test, though beating UC Irvine was big.

Ranked 28th by Collegiate Baseball and "26th" in USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches' poll. 26th is in quotes because we are the first team receiving votes.

^^ UC-Irvine looks like they were over-ranked to start the season. They just lost to another unranked team this past weekend. Maybe they're just having a slow start, but this weekend will be the real test to see if this Pack team is for real.

Pack wins 14-10. It was a bullpen day and A&T scored 3 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th. The Pack then scored 5 in the 7th and 2 in the 8th. BIG series this weekend at Clemson.

We twice had leads going into the bottom of the 8th. If our pitching staff could just put together some decent outings we could've easily taken at least 2 games this past weekend. And honestly taking all 3 wouldn't have been terribly impossible if Mazzoni didn't blow up in the first game to along with some errors. Very winnable games.

Wake wins 4-3 in 10 innings. Final play was with runners on the corners, 1 out. Grounder to short, steps on 2nd, wild throw to 1st, winning run scores. The PACK is now 14-6 (2-4) and travels to Buies Creek on Tuesday to face Campbell. Weekend series is against Miami at home.

We need another pitcher to step up big time. We have Mazzoni (a Freshman) and Buchannan, but other than that I haven't heard of anyone else doing very well. We blew two 8th inning leads against Clemson, gave up a bunch to Campbell, and a lot to UNCW. We've also had some games where the offense won the game when it kept having to make up for the pitching staff.

If Fowler wasn't the AD then I bet Avent would be feeling some heat. His tenure is starting to look like Sendek's. A lot of good teams, some pretty good years, but also some really bad years and has never been able to get over the top. Its amazing to think that our offense is that good this year and we're losing games by multiple runs because our pitching sucks so bad.

Watching the Campbell game showed a couple of things. When our defense makes a mental error or an actual error, our pitching begins to feel they have to do it all by themselves. Our hitting, when we are down, usually turns into swigging for the fences. Campbell had 5 triples with back-to-back triples at one point. I hope to see the team focused on Miami and A LOT of student support will help that. I also found out that the starting pitcher for Miami on Friday arrived to the US on a raft from Cuba.

If you are interested in checking out the Quinnipiac series (minus Sunday) and the NC A&T game you can watch them here:
http://wolfbytessportstelevision.blip.tv/

All of the baseball games won't be covered, but any that do will be put up there within a day or two. (Miami this weekend will not, Old Dominion will.)

scroll down to the veeeeeery bottom. most of the games on there currently are single camera, minimal graphic videos but most to all of the future games will be multi-camera full game presentations.

Avent feel the heat? Some bad seasons? Which 36 to 40 win season are you mad about. Of course I'm ticked that he got us to the Sweet 16 (super-regional) twice in 5 years and within a game of Omaha. Yeah, guess I'd expect that from somebody who thinks Mazz is a freshman. 6 years of listening to this crap about boohoo basketball and Herb only got us to the ncaa tourney because I'm jealous of UNC and Duke but don't try to drag down one of the best coaches in the country because we lost a lot of guys from that team that hosted a regional and our best recruit is out with tommy john's. Of all of our coaches he is down the list for the "Lee Fowler loves bad coaches" thread. Would be nice though if we got some good support for our home baseball games.

Ok, sorry Mazzoni is a Sophmore. Earth shattering mistake by me.

I didn't say he was just like Sendek and should be fired ASAP, I said his tenure is starting to look more like Sendek's. A lot of near misses and no championships in 13 years. I really like Avent, but last year was a huge step back (I know we were young). But giving up 15 runs to Campbell, losing to Campbell, UNCW and losing multiple 8th inning leads isn't very comforting. I did not know that our best recruit had Tommy Johns though, but even with him our pitching would've been exposed. One bright spot is the guy who's committed from Clayton that just recently threw a no hitter.

Hopefully we can take at least 2 of 3 from Miami.

The entire ACC has 1 National Championship in baseball. That was Wake Forest in 1955. So Mike Martin (FSU), Jim Morris (Miami), Danny Hall (GT), Mike Fox (UNC), and Jack Leggett (Clemson), etc. need to all be put on notice that they don't deserve their jobs. And yes, Clemson did have that real bad season in 2008 like we did last year and they might have bounced back. Gotta get over "the hump"

^ I though GT won it that year with Nomar, Varitek, and Jay Payton. Maybe they lost in the finals or something. UNC could of won a couple in the past three years - thankfully they are choke artists.

Yeah thankfully UNC always blows it once they get to Omaha. FSU always seems to do the same kind of thing.

does Miami not count. I know they were not acc when they won it, but the acc claims everything that miami and VT did in football before expansion

Lost to Miami 6-5. (2-5) in ACC play. Another losing ACC season and not making the ACCT and Avent needs to feel some pressure. I don't know what ecofsilence is talking about up there. We have had 2 really good seasons and a bunch of decent seasons. Avent isn't even on Herb's level. Look up Avent's highest ACC finish and then tell me his job should be safe.

The bullpen finally did well, but the lineup couldn't come up with any clutch hits. We had the bases loaded, down 1 with 1 out and got a strike out then a fly out.

Yeah, we got a bunch on base against Miami and just couldn't get the big hit. We hit into a ton of double plays today. Honestly other than the 9th inning yesterday that has been the story the entire series against them. It sucks when they had the perfect opportunity to rally and win on Friday, blew 2 8th inning leads against Clemson and scored 10 runs and lost to Campbell. All of those could've easily been wins.

bump for today's game vs Old Dominion at 6:30. Russel Wilson gets the start as the Pack looks to beat ODU and head to the weekend vs UVA on a good note.

Pack wins 7-3. Kyle Wilson becomes the first player to hit their picture with a home run. Another BIG series this weekend vs UVA. 6:30 on Friday and Saturday with a 1pm start on Sunday. Avent needs 1 win to get to 500 victories at NC State.
