i'm really curious to hear exactly who on NPR 1) is as arrogant as Rush, and 2) editorializes like almost anybody on AM radio

^^ Not so much talking about the hosts as much as the guests. All of these uppity writers and college professors they interview who have no idea what the real world entails. They are stuck in their little corner of California judging the rest of America and telling us how we should live our lifes. The hosts on NPR are so boring I can't tell one from the next.

There used to be a show on NPR Spindale when I was in my teens called Joe Frank in the dark. It's like an ephemeral fantastical version of This American Life. Pretty sure u can find all of Joe Frank's stuff online, it was from San Diego i think. Diane Rehm has a guest a few years back that shamelessly and persistently hit on her on air, it was funny. He even described to the audience how hawt she is for her age, and criticized most men for being neuters.

Fine with me. Get the hosts get out of the way and let the guests and the actual news take center stage.

I'm afraid it's true. When most ppl hear a reasoned and articulated argument, they're offended and feel belittled. That ok, we have discovery channel for trying to reach those ppl.

no love for neal conan and ken rudin?

i don't miss rehm, bbc morning, or talk of the nation.

ira f., dick g., and everybody else are better than listening to the same 10 songs over and over again on the radio.

Ken Rudin's endless well of political trivia disturbs me. Such useless information. Politicians are shitty human beings. They don't deserve fans, much less trivia. Devoting your life to the study of them seems like a complete waste.

I like The Story. I like hearing the guest talk about the mundane details of their life. It makes me feel like I'm empathizing with someone from a walk of life I've never had the chance to experience or relate with. There's no sensationalism, no carefully scripted agenda, and no narrow focus on some hyped-up hero or sob story. Just connecting with people who are different, yet unexceptional.

Dick Gordon does go a little overboard sometimes when trying to get the listeners to empathize with the guest, who is often not a public speaker. He's just a facilitator though, he's not the main event. I wouldn't say it's too "bleeding-heart liberal" either: he's had guests that are clearly conservative and he still tries to get listeners to empathize.
