you'll hear and feel a loud, expensive *clunk*, probably some grinding and popping, and your transmission will need a rebuild

Actually a relatively new car would lock out your ability to put it in park at speed.

Definitely spiders. I don't freak out like the worst people do...but not a big fan.

And to a certain extent...fear of heights and closed in places. I do a lot to combat my fear of heights (skydiving, paragliding, climbing tall shit)...but it's still there. And I'll only get the fear of closed in spaces if I become aware of it and start thinking about it a lot.

I am not fond of spiders, but I always remind myself that they eat other bugs, so I let them go about their business.

Other acceptable bugs include: praying mantises, fire flies, lady bugs(not the poser japanese beetles), grasshoppers, crickets, butterflies, roly poly bugs, worms, dragon flies, stick bugs

Not that I want to be best friends with these - but we can remain in the same vicinity without repulsing me.

When I was 8 I was swimming around in a hotel pool. What I didn't realize that there was a bee drowning on the surface of the water. So I accidentally came up for air right underneath the bee, where it was directly on top of my head.

Wondering what was stuck in my hair I reached up to grab it and the fucker stung me on the head and on the hand at the same time.

Since then, stingy insects and I have not been on good terms.

^^ Either your story is made up or it wasn't a bee. Bees can only sting 1 time, unless it's a queen. It's highly unlikely it was a queen there.

Must've been a hornet or wasp.

I thought of some advice for you, goodoctor.

use a dust buster to vacuum up any offending bugs (then you don't even have to smash them!). then put the dust buster in the freezer for at least 24 hours ... no bug can survive that! plus your roommates will think you cracked when they find it.

^^^^It was some stinging flying thing OK

^^ Thats a really good idea Nerdchick. Can dustbusters pick up things as big as roaches? Also my roommates already assume I'm crazy because they are always finding sponges in the microwave. But I'm not crazy, it kills all the bacteria.

Anytime I encounter any type of insect inside, all I have to do is get my cat to notice it. She'll play with it for an hour before finally killing and eating it.

don't know if it counts as an irrational fear...but...

I go camping with some college friends every December in the Keys. A couple of years ago, we set up camp in a spot that had lots of raccoons. We had to constantly chase them off, but didn't really feel any threat.

That night, we all slept in sleeping bags in the open. I had a really fucked up LUCID dream, where I was sleeping on the beach where I was actually sleeping, I was practically paralyzed, and the raccoons were scratching and chewing on my face and head. So yea, I'm well aware that I'm dreaming, and normally I can awake myself from such an occasion. But no, not this time. I try yelling, but all that I can muster is the sound of someone trying to yell out their nose, which in my "paralyzed" state ended up sounding like loud moaning. It was all sorts of fucked up.

Once everyone woke up that morning, I asked if I woke anyone up making while I made weird noises, and they said yes.

So yea, now I have this fucked up irrational fear of sleeping around raccoons.

drains in the deep end of the swimming pool have always scared me. i don't know why.

deep water in general scares me. not really in a lake or the ocean. but like diving wells freak me out. i don't think i could ever go in one. any pool over 12ft deep is just too scary.

I have a primal fear of spiders but I wouldn't think to kill it unless it was actively about to cause me harm. If I see it I do what I can to collect it and place it outside.

The video really that bad.

Also that dude is dumb. And roaches wouldn't survive a nuclear blast, that's an urban legend. They are actually more vulnerable to radiation than most other insects.
