Different products have different marketing numbers. They don't always market the full duplex throughput, but realize this is standard in the industry. So if 1 does it, everyone does, otherwise there is a misconception...

because the number you are referencing is not a total "throughput" number, but rather the port speed ... very very different.

I think the bigger picture also has to do with what becomes possible when bandwidth is a commodity rather than a scarcity.
