That was one of my favorite scenes in the whole thing.

i felt like the movie was everything it was supposed to be. it didnt try to be deep or profound, it was like "i'm a predator movie, i understand what that means, and i'm completely cool with it and my audience will be too"

yay machete trailer.

^ I think you mean, the exact same fucking movie as the first one.

Except you have the best killers in all of the world. You have super predators, and even a mini gun and a sword confrontation............

I havent seen it. I will like it. It is good. But it is the same movie almost.

^^ you say that as if it's a negative....

do you really want something different from a predator movie?

It was exactly what i'd hoped it'd be. If you're looking for a stellar new plot with innovative character development, you picked the wrong genre.

I scoffed hard at the trailer but I saw this movie today and I was impressed! Solid action movie with fun shoutouts to the old Predator and more ("Say goodbye to your little friend" made me LOL )

Adrian Brody was surprisingly convincing as a badass mercenary, he even buffed up a bit. Also I had a great time predicting the unsurprising order that the characters would die. I'd recommend this movie to Predator fans. Glad to see a recovery after the miserable viewing experience of Alien VS Predator and god help us, Alien VS Predator: Requiem

That was great. I think Adrien Brody might have overdone it just a little bit with the voice (kind of reminded me of Batman and the first Punisher movie), but I know it was on purpose...still just irritated me a little.

Definitely enjoyed the twists. And Anita Braga is fucking smoking. Love that accent.

This was a terrible fucking movie, and those of you who enjoyed it have terrible fucking taste and low self-esteem as a spectator. You deserve to watch better movies.

If not, they blew a golden opportunity.

I loathed Predators, here are my top 5 reasons why. And there are light spoilers ahead so just a fare warning.

5. Predators were stupid These guys weren't to be feared, you hardly got any moments of stalk and kill from their perspective with the infrared, nor did you get any time from their POV to see just how bad ass they were. They were just side items at best and ones that usually acted like stupid animals and weren't even that much of a threat. Predators SHOULD be something not to be fucked with, not something that loses to humans 3 (special edition even) v 8 !!!!!!!!

4. Crappy CG Not much more to say about that.

3. Characters so paper thin. You couldn't get any more generic and compartmentalized than these fucking guys. Crazy prison guy with shiv? Check. African Death Squad guy with Voodoo Vision? Check. Yakuza jewel encrusted pistol and samurai sword quiet guy? Check. Cold, heavy weapons Russian tank guy? Check. I mean really???? What's worse is that their development can be reduced into little checkpoints throughout the movie where you hear from every one of them like it's a small world / around the world hour. So fucking horribly paced and generic.

2. Brody as Arnold. Obvious aesthetic issues aside (and there are many), I don't know what more to say about this other than IT DIDN'T WORK. I mean if you are going to write rusty ass, brillo-pad one liners for an action movie hero and it's freaking Adrian Brody delivering them with the stupidest grizzled, saltiest look he can muster....someone in the casting department should be fired. He's good for 3 hour foreign dramas, not high octane action movies.

1. Are we having fun or not? The movie couldn't tell if it should be campy comic relief, or serious flick. You see instances of the former in scenes with Laurence Fishburne as crazy guy, the Japanese sword fight, and the ending credit rolling Little Richard number that I thought were the best parts of the movie.....but the rest of the movie did not follow suit at all. It was like the movie was at odds with itself where you could clearly see the Rodriguez sense of humor inserted as an influence to an otherwise 'attempt' at a straight laced action movie. Make up your damn mind.

I liked the movie for what it was, an homage to the original. I have some minor grievances with the film but they were not enough to say it was horrible. My biggest complaint was Topher Grace. This guy's character/performance was just a shitload of fuck. It brought nothing to the film and was just a drag on the other actors. I could say the same about Lawrence Fishburn. For what its worth, it was good to see a Predator movie that A) wasn't on earth, B) didn't involve the city or a small town, C) didn't involve aliens, D) was rated R, E) didn't have terrible acting, and F) had a Yakuza sword fight with a Predator.

I'd give it two and a half stars. I didn't expect it to be great and was surprised that it was better than it could have been.

Wow I just realized that Topher Grace played Eric on That 70's Show ... didn't realize that when I was watching the movie.

Anyway I couldn't disagree more. Those two guys were my favorite part of the movie! Kainen is right, they were the only side characters with a personality that went beyond ethnicity and weapon type.

so you are saying that Topher Grace's character made the film better? REALLY?!?

Lawrence was ok but I don't think he really added anything to the film other than he lead the team into a different environment to get whooped up in.

I just don't like Topher Grace as an actor in anything but comedy related films. It would be like casting him as Venom..........oh wait, that was a big ball of fuck...................

***spoilers

good movie
way overhyped
the sword fighting is the biggest dissappointment of the movie. what was good about that? they hardly did any moves. it was just clink clink and it was over.
none of the character's special skills was properly shown so they just seemed like random people with guns.
fishburn was cool for a second but the way that part ended was lame.
the fireball during the explosion in the old ship i swear was taken directly from The Ten Commandments. it looked like somebody drew that on the screen with a crayon.
the twist in the end was pretty unexpected, so kudos for that.
all in all it was good enough to be seen and will set up a better sequel, hopefully.

I really liked it and do not want my ten bucks back. However, in the spirit of bitching I'll go:
- Far too little freaking out when they realized they weren't on earth. I promise that if I get dropped off on another planet I will freak the fuck out about it for a really long time.
- You can't spend a long time scavenging and running from killer aliens and be fat. No fuckin way. I'm sorry, but you can't just roll up to the Olive Garden for unlimited salad and bread sticks when you get hungry. I know Laurence Fishburn isn't super fat, but he was looking quite portly compared to his Matrix days. That's just not believable. It didn't help that this was probably the worst acting I have ever seen from him.
- I'm pretty sure alien space ships have the equivalent to a set of car keys. How is one Predator going to press some buttons on his forearm, crank up another Predator's ship, and set it on a course for earth without going through some sort of security? Not gonna happen. Likewise, I wonder if the "press a few buttons and your space ship explodes" feature comes standard or if it is an option that you have to pay extra for at the dealer?
- At the end when they say "Let's find a way off this planet" or something...Umm, ok, why don't you go build another space ship that you don't know how to fly out of rocks and trees. Is this the best way they could think of to set up a sequel?
- Ok, so there's some sort of feud war between big Predators and little Predators. So like, where did the little Predator come from? Does he have a ship somewhere that we don't know about or was he brought there by the big Predators? That whole thing deserved a lot more of a back story.
- The level of damage sustained by the Predators never made sense. Do these guys have Wolverine style healing abilities? Do they not have organs that get damaged when, oh I don't know, they get shot in the back and the bullet comes out their chest? How does a guy with a prison shank open up wounds on them when it would appear you can shoot them at point blank range and they're fine? What kind of dog gets shot 800 times by a Gatling gun and keeps advancing until it gets hit with one shot from a hunting/sniper rifle?

Still a good movie though. I just tend to pick everything apart.

^^ they said in the movie that the little pred's were hunted by the big ones....

they said, or at least postulated that he was brought to the planet just like the humans, I assumed that was understood. And at the end they're dropping in more "game" so obviously the predators are coming back since they come back over and over again to get better at hunting.

his point was... this time lets not fuck around and get the predator ship blown up. Lets lay wood to some predators and take their ship home. The not knowing how to fly it thing is a much bigger problem to me than having to build "a ship out of trees"

*SPOILERS I GUESS*

so just to be clear, these "big predators" and "little predators" are just the new style predators with bigger mouths and the classic predators with the lattice work skin, respectively? neither really seemed bigger/smaller or especially better/stronger. the new predator did kick the old one's ass.... but to be fair, he had been tied up for days. and why did this old predator have control of the ship if he was dropped in as prey?

^Yeah...I kept saying to my friend, "which one is bigger??" Then I figured it out after the "new" one took off his mask. And he didn't necessarily "kick his ass"...it was a pretty good fight up until the end.

And the "old predator controlling the spaceship" has been talked about in previous spoilers in this thread. Its definitely not explained in the movie...so you can come up with your own guess.

I don't think it was necessarily a larger vs smaller but more of a racial thing

Morpheus said in the movie that it was a blood feud

i got a theory on why any predator can control a ship, just roll with me for a second here.

cuz what if the one predator that knows how to control the ship dies? they would be all assed out. so they figure, we all need to have control of the ship.

Maybe they invited that little predator to go camping and on the way there they were like "Hey bro, can you drive...We're going to the back so we can pound some brewskies." Then they got there and told him "Oh by the way, this is "Surviving the Game" and you're Ice-T."

I thought it was ok at best. Laurence Fishburne was pretty pointless. I agree that the characters were stereotypical. The sword fight was fucking stupid to me. "Hey you got guns that can snipe me from hundreds of feet away, but let's fight in a wide-open field for, ya know, honor and stuff" "Durrrr, ok". I didn't even find the violence/gore that fun (maybe I'm just desensitized to that).

Eh...I feel like that's always been the Predator's thing. They could fuck up anybody at pretty much anytime, but they like to make it a challenge. Almost like hunting with a bow and arrow instead of a rifle. You see it throughout every predator movie when they are constantly watching everyone. They could snipe humans anytime they want, but what fun is that??

I figure it's part of their code of honor or something. Fight "worthy" prey in hand-to-hand if they stand their ground, otherwise invisibility and sniping is a-ok.

That's how I've always seen it, atleast since Predator 2 for sure. He could have snipped Danny Glover at any time during the movie, instead he kept fucking with him and killing anyone close to him. The Danny Glover goes ape shit, and they have a grand ole time together, culminating in him being congratulated with a 1750 flintlock pistol..
