most people i know who play fantasy anything do it for money or with people they know. without the sense of urgency to win cash or talking shit with your friends, there's no point to join a public league with nothing on the line for any fantasy sport. and one reason why i like fantasy baseball better than fantasy football is because it forces you to stay on top of it every single day if you want to win. i've lost interest in fantasy football several years because it was only relevant two days out of the week.

That's incredibly silly. Baseball is breaking attendance records year after year. The game is on as secure footing as it's ever been. The NFL is more popular for obvious reasons (gambling, America now has the attention span of a squirrel, violence, etc) but MLB is in no danger whatsoever.

In fact anyone who even implies that simply has to be trolling.

^^^ I wouldn't go so far as to say baseball's on shaky ground, but I read somewhere a while back that the average age for baseball consumers was rising and they were losing out big time to other sports in the 18-34 demo.

I said "at least we have minor league ball and $1 beer night". I live in a town in Virginia with a minor league team that has $1 beer night.

Not sure if any MLB teams do that, though. Ever heard of 10 cent beer night in Cleveland? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10_Cent_Beer_Night

I have a feeling that the Nats will be in the divisional race by 2015. That will be a fine summer, but till then I'll just have to take the month of July and August off from sports I fear.

Tampa Bay used to have $1 beer nights on Friday night games. Also could get upper level tickets for $3 with a student id. That was the year before the WS run though.

If you hate baseball, start betting on it. I hated it all my life and then began to bet on it 2 or 3 summers ago..It will keep your attention, I promise. Im sitting here at work watching the game tracker for the cubs game right now since I laid $ on the total.

[Edited on April 16, 2010 at 2:26 PM. Reason : but yes.. baseball does suck if you dont bet on it]

^^^ Baseball is bad enough as is, I can't imagine having to watch a game and lose $50 bucks at the same time. Just take me out back and kick me in the balls.

^ gladly. Where you at?

Seriously this is hardly the most boring time of the year. Last weekend had an awesome Masters tourney, some good early season baseball and late season basketball as well as a whole bunch of draft talk for both the NFL and NBA, plus there are spring games going on for NCAA football and college baseball is in full swing. I was watching just as much sports as I always do.

anyone who likes mma clearly cares little about "sport" and more about watching people get hit, which explains the dislike for baseball.

As for the argument that June is boring, I say it is once every 4 years. There is pretty much always one major sporting event in the summer.

2006: FIFA World Cup
2007: IRB Rugby World Cup
2008: Olympic Summer Games
2009: nothing
2010: Start the cycle again

The 2008 Olympic Summer games were held from August 8th to August 24th. So I don't think they impact June at all.

Honestly, if you don't like baseball, it's probably not your fault. Your dad is probably a piece of shit or some sort of foreigner, in which case, your opinion doesn't really matter. What in the world could be better than tossing a baseball with your kid?

^^True and I know the last IRB Rugby World Cup was held in the fall too, but still, the Olympics came before football season started.

Tossing a lacrosse ball.

I have some respect for [almost] all sports. I've played baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, and lacrosse. You ask me my favorite sport when I was 10, it'd probably have been baseball. Now? I rarely watch baseball outside of the playoffs. Do I understand why people like it? Hell, I understand why people like NASCAR, but I'm not going to watch it. Am I going to degrade people who watch it? Nah, I don't give a fuck enough to do that. I never understood why people repeatedly knock on sports as if they're going to change people's minds. I don't get pissed that someone can't appreciate something with the magnitude of the World Cup, but I sort of feel bad for them.
