Bobby Cox just got run for the 154th time in his career.

Umpires seem to be trying to make themselves a bigger part of the game. Joe West blasts the Yankee-Red Sox for playing too slow. Bob Davidson seemed to egg Bobby Cox on in that argument.

I don't pay/watch to see the umpires, they need to know their role and shut the fuck up.

Milwaukee 10
Washington 0

Top 1st, 1 out

Marquis with a stellar line of:

0.0 IP, 3 H, 7 ER

Not sure how he did it, but that raised his 12.40 ERA quite a lot.

with Doug Davis on the mound, the Crew will need every single one of those runs, and could probably use a few more to be honest

I watched some of the Nats/Rockies game last night, and my God the Nationals' announcers (Bob Carpenter and Rob Dibble) are TERRIBLE.

Now that I live in DC, I've kind of resolved to get more into the Nats, but I don't know if I can take watching them on TV with that announcing team.

^ Dibble used to be horrible on Baseball Tonight. Almost as bad as Eric Young. Orestes Destrada is the best former player they have on there. Chris Singleton is okay too. Eduardo Perez is not as bad as Dibble or Young, but sucks too.

LOL... great box score or greatest box score?

http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=300420102&teams=texas-rangers-vs-boston-red-sox

Are the Red Sox putting a corpse behind home plate or is it just Victor Martinez?

BASERUNNING
SB: N Cruz 3 (3); E Andrus 3 (4); V Guerrero 2 (3); J Borbon (2)

^^Part of that was due to Wakefield throwing his knuckleball. Part of that was because V-Mart can't throw anyone out.

^^ The Red Sox haven't consistently thrown out base runners stealing in years. Varitek used to get abused daily by teams like the Rays.

Yeah, but it is normally worse when it comes to Wakefield pitching. Hopefully with Dice-K coming back Wakefield won't have a rotation spot. Great guy, but he's been bad this year.

Wakefield threw 129.2 innings last year. He had 23 SB against him.
Wakefield threw 181 innings two years ago. He had 27 SB against him.

Nine in six innings probably has at least some to do with the catcher... and probably mostly due to the catcher. I'm fairly confident Mike Piazza's gay old ass could have been wheeled up there and at least thrown one of those clowns out.

Went to the Padres vs Giants game at Petco Park last night. That's a nice stadium. Our seats were about 30 feet away from Philip Rivers. My coworker was wearing an NC State jacket, he looked over at us pointed and gave the thumbs up.

MLB Network dudes were 100% percent right last night

Steals are almost always on the pitcher. Sox pitchers last night were doing nothing to hold the runners. Martinez's SB% has gone up over the years, but it's skyrocketed this season. No way that's all on him.

I disagree.

If Yadier Molina's back there, no way Vlad steals two bases and Nelson Cruz's fat ass steals three.

^^^ That is awesome - you should have gotten a picture.

^ Yadier would not have thrown out all five either with Wakefield working his knuckler. The pitch and pitcher have as much to do with it as the catcher's arm/ability.

^^ Did you watch the game? Their pitchers totally ignored the baserunners. Very little blame can go to Martinez.

Just the last three innings, so I missed most if not all of the steals

I'm just saying it was at least somewhat the catcher's fault...part of it is the respect factor for the arm with Yadier, Pudge, etc, even when they don't throw. With Martinez, there's no respect, which when coupled with Wakefield's delivery, is how you get nine steals

Ryan Howard getting 25 mil a year.

You're buying years 32-36 at top of the league money. Assuming a payroll of about $125M, that means he's 20% of your entire payroll. An enormous bet, especially considering that you still have two years to figure it out. Why do this now? What kind of discount do you think you got to do this now? Doesn't make sense to me.

Pujols has to be grinning ear to ear right now.

Josh Johnson with a nice 12-strikeout complete game 1-run 3-hitter

he also went 3/4 from the plate with 3 RBIs

9-9 game for the Sox and Jays, but this is exactly why everyone was hesitant about signing Beckett to an extension. Aside from '07 he hasn't been anything close to an ace.

Beckett:

3 innings pitched
3 strikeouts
3 walks
8 earned runs lolol

I think Lester is clearly their ace at this point

I'd normally say the same thing, but Lester has been awful thus far as well. He normally starts slowly, but he needs to start performing though.
