gotta say i am pleased with the results. but at the same time, not too thrilled with Hughes' performance. i guess he is human like Mariano too

He gave up six runs all season so far up until last night's five runs. Everyone has a bad night. He was still in line for the win until Park shit the bed twice in a row.

When these two teams play you just have to bank on close to four hours and nothing ever being settled until the ninth.

What a great ending to a fantastic game. Of course I say this now since they pulled off the win in the 9th

Joba is ruined thanks to the Yanks. They thought they had this big secret formula for making him into a Cy Young All-Star pitcher when in reality they screwed him royally. It's a shame.

Kind of a pessimistic mentality there. I don't agree that he's ruined. Joel Sherman had a column in the Post earlier that Joba tends to struggle after an extended period of success because he gets comfortable in his routine.

Doesn't sound like something that can't be worked out. After all, he's still only 24 years old.

Also, sick two-game sweep to the Rays this week. Glad Swisher finally got back in the line-up. Cervelli has been great, but that bottom four of Cervelli, Thames, Miranda and Winn (sometimes with Pena in there) hasn't been inspiring a TON of confidence.

Old story, but still just as amazing to me. The greatest Yankees pitching prospect that ever lived.

^ Did you notice the NC State connection in that article:

Quote :
"Levar Fisher, a free-agent linebacker who has played with the Saints and Cardinals, grew up in Beaufort, worshipping Taylor.

"What happened to him changed my whole perspective," Fisher, 26, says. "He worked his whole life to get drafted, and one incident took it away."
"

Levar Fisher was a beast. Still wished he would have made it in the NFL.

I'll be heading to Camden Yards tonight for the Yanks/Orioles game. I'm pretty pumped to see Hughes pitch in person. He's on my fantasy team too, so double bonus there.

Also, I think I'm the only person in the DC area attending a baseball game that is NOT at Nationals Park.

^How was that game?

Yanks are doing quite well right now. Looking good despite the absence of ARod. Hopefully he will be back in the line up though, since Pena is a weak spot in the line up.

Here's hoping to maintain the best record in baseball...

Oh I had a great time! The game was pretty good. Yanks won 12-7, but it wasn't really that close. I was sitting just under the overhang on the lower level, just to the left of home plate as you look at the field. I was surrounded by other Yankee fans.

Swisher hit a HR in the first. Granderson hit a grand slam. Hughes pitched relatively well. Chad Gaudin was a train wreck in the final two innings, giving up four runs and really making the game much longer than it should have been. He was terrible.

Dude Moyer rotates a horrible game with a great one every 5 days. I think he one hit the Braves earlier this season. I just can't believe he is still able to be effective with his low 80s fastball.

Dear Yankees,

Thanks for fucking up and losing 2 out of 3 to the Phillies. This is the only time I root for you to win. Well maybe if you are playing the Mets too.

Signed,
Braves Fans

feels good yes but Boston is right back in contention now after looking as if there season was over and Tampa Bay is still going strong. what also sucks is that Toronto is playing great baseball too. Yes they are 5.5 out at the moment but they have shown they can go head-to-head with the bigboys and if the stars align correctly we could have a 4 way tie for 1st.

crazy game. wilson got a few calls that cc did not early on and i think it threw him off a bit and then he just went into meltdown. he's lucky he only balked once and not sure how he only gave up 5 runs. epic 8th inning.

Hell of a first game last night! CC needs to settle down, geez. Hope his next start isn't as rocky as this one. Though I can't complain when they win.

Yankee fans have got to be worried that they need to win 3 of these games:

against Cliff Lee
AJ Burnett starting
CJ Wilson / Sabathia rematch
Colby Lewis / Hughes rematch
against Cliff Lee

I hope Cliff Lee loafs a few plays tonight, like he did last year.

What an ass

I love him so much

This was awesome I thought (context: Yankees voice Michael Kay made comments that Lee touches his hat often before throwing a pitch. Since he uses the rosin bag so much and sweats he creates a rosin/sweat spot on his hat that Michael Kay thinks is illegal. Besides Kay being wrong about the ruels, Girardi has stated there is nothing wrong with this). Anyways, when asked about the advantage his rosin/hat gives him Lee answered:

"It definitely makes me way better. I know that much. Without that hat, I don't know if I could do it. I don't know. It's rosin is what it is. I go to the rosin bag quite a bit. I touch my hat in the same place over and over. And it just accumulates. I couldn't pitch without it for sure."
