Wale is much better than this dude, at least from what I've heard out of B.o.B.

dude im probably the biggest wale stan on the planet and while i agree wale may be a better hiphop artist from a purity standpoint, if you've listened to b.o.b.'s mixtapes starting from cloud 9, they're atleast on par, and i would say you could make the case that b.o.b. has a much wider range and is more well rounded as an artist. wale is nice and all but he is too cute with his rhymes for his own good sometime.

I'll give you wider range as an artist, but nothing from B.o.B. is as good as The Mixtape About Nothing.

On this album, the trite stuff like "magic" just kills me.

he's got his moments on his mixtapes

the patron and swag acapella, the generation lost song, they're all very similar to mixtape about nothing. the thing that was amazing about mixtape about nothing was the entire concept and how he integrated the material into it so flawlessly.

but strictly from a technical standpoint, i hear a marginal difference at best

i will say that the TI track that got left off, with the coldplay sample? Budden and Jay did it better. A lot better.

Why are you people here such paramore haters? In every thread people seem to have PASSIONATE hate for paramore. I ould see simply not like them but it seems paramore has somehow offended everyone on this site. Doesn't quite make sense. They aren't even THAT popular but are widely reguarded as one of the best alternative bands. (alternative isn't THAT popular)

This album is worth its value in diversity alone

mars
ti
hayeley
weezer
eminem
lupe

HUUUGE names.

BOB is definitely up there with lupe fiasco and kid cudi as best alternative rappers.

ok, I don't care about Paramore as a group, but "Airplanes" is a damn good song, and she's good on the hook. Her other work means didddly shit to me when it comes to this album. The song with TI is one of the worst examples of generic club songs i've heard in a while.

Mars? A HUUUUGE name? gtfo! And let's not put Cudi and Lupe on the same level. Cudi hasn't done anything that I find to be worth the hype he's getting.

Cudi is excellent live. BOB is garbage live. At least Cudi can rock a mic outside of a studio. I agree that his few songs that get radio airplay are overhyped, but he had several great tracks on "Man on the Moon".

i like his "freestyle" over the chonkeyfire beat. that's it. i dont even really like day n' nite.

Make 'Em Say would have been fine without him on it. He's a little too forgettable for me.

I just noticed my playcount for Airplanes passed 300 on itunes after syncing my iphone just now.

I hate how toddlers will latch on to a single song and refuse to listen to anything else for months at a time.

Lupe's definitely my favorite rapper. Cannot wait til March 8 for Lasers.

As for "alternative rap" I think that's basically just non-mainstream rap...or at least rap that doesn't get 24/7 airplay (Lil Wayne, Drake, etc). Although B.o.B became rather mainstream this year.

I liked The Adventures of Bobby Ray...but I listened to it a lot (plus all the radio plays) and got pretty tired of it. It's definitely a good album, IMO.

what makes it an alternative?

just because its done on a small scale?

its the same subject matter as some mainstream artists, its the same focus on either rhymes, flow, or punchlines as any given mainstream rapper

its the same sort of beats and how they spit over those beats.

for every "underground", "alternative" rapper theres a mainstream rapper that also flows the same or uses the same sort of beats, or has at one point

so where is the alternative to mainstream rap music in that? It is an alternative in terms of marketing and distribution maybe, but as far as musical product its the same shit its all about wether you like that style or not

hell i am sure that there are "alternative" local emcees that are spitting like lil wayne, like jay-z, or even like Gucci Mane

id be surprised to hear people refer to them as alternative rappers, even though by the definitions ive seen they are

you just happen to like the style, and you dont like the styles you hear on the radio. Its ok its cyclical.

^Yes I agree. I definitely prefer his mixtapes.

and ^^^^, I wasn't saying that I thought it was "alternative", someone said they didn't know what alternative rap is (I don't either), and I was trying to guess what the original poster may have meant by "alternative rapper". There are many different styles in rap...that's why some people prefer Lil Wayne and other people prefer someone like Lupe Fiasco, for example. They're different. But I wouldn't call Lupe Fiasco "alternative"...just a different style.

Alternative hip hop....from Wikipedia:
Quote :
"
Alternative hip hop (also known as alternative rap) is a sub-genre of hip hop music that is defined in greatly varying ways. Allmusic defines it as follows:
Alternative Rap refers to Hip-Hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, and party rap. Instead, they blur genres - drawing equally from funk and rock, as well as jazz, soul, reggae, and even folk."

^thats the stupidest shit ive ever heard

hip hop is simply spoken word over instrumentation. theres no "stereotype"

artists influenced by many of those so called stereotypes have infused all and more of those other genres

hell hip hop is borne of rock n roll, blues, jazz, spoken word poetry etc.

this shit grinds my gears. Hip hop is the emcee, the dj, and the culture
