Again with the ridiculous facts you idiots think people who have concealed carry permits aren't aware of.

If you train enough, you can and will put them down. Your mind is the real weapon. You need to evaluate a situation beforehand and act accordingly, understanding the legal implications of every action and also understanding that it's better to kill them than to be killed.

It's sad that you'd put stock into something some guy who poses with knives on the internet postures himself into saying over what a trained LEO would do.

Not a bash on Sob - but come on, dog. I know you have more sense than that.

Also, since we're harping on the sheer improbability of someone properly managing a situation like this if they had had a CCL, let's point out that your average citizen isn't a battle trained, battle hardened individual, and even in the absence of weaponry, your average black belt or even self-defense class taking Joe isn't going to be able to stop 3 dudes beating on one guy without getting hurt himself.

Use common sense, you guys. The smartest thing for this guy's dad to do is to get away (which it seems he did), even if it is his friend/co-worker.

This is how I know none of you idiots have ever actually read my posts about self defense and carrying a handgun and knives.

What I say time and time again is that avoidance, mental preparedness, situational awareness and training are what will save you. If you aren't willing to train, don't carry a weapon. If you are willing to train heavily, carry a weapon.

Nobody on this site actually knows anything about my level of training. Keep that in mind. All they see is me acting like an idiot because that's what I do best here.

When shit gets real and you have a split second to make a decision, you can either cower and die or do something about it. And if you fools think any firearm advocate is actually saying to kill them rather than escape, you're a fucking idiot. I have repeatedly stated that the use of an emergency window exit would have been the best option in this situation. You would have then been covered by law had they come after you. You WERE trying, by all possible means to escape. Your use of that window showed genuine fear for your life. They had no reason to approach unless they had intent to cause you grievous bodily harm. You are outnumbered, they have been aggressive to other individuals, etc. This is legit son. Try to get away, if it fails, save yourself or take as many with you as possible. You're fooling yourself if you think you can survive anything. Nobody in here has claimed such. But you're an idiot to think that you should never arm yourself because it's IMPOSSIBLE to be a competent and trained civilian. That is a steaming pile of bullshit.

I know other people (namely my brother and some of his buddies) with SaabTurbo's sort of mentality. They go to the firing range for hours some weekends, could tell you the laws without thinking, and have gone through tons of scenarios in their head about these kind of things. Your average cop isn't going to go through that sort of exercise. They just have to qualify with a pistol on the firing range.

Yeah, fuck that shit. You are truly a worthless individual if you would just "get away" and leave your friend to possibly get killed. I wouldn't be trying to take 3 dudes barehanded but I'd definitely do something.

speaking of concealed handguns, they're not allowed on the Light Rail

although *HYPOTHETICALLY* I've never ridden without mine

course when the dudes looked at me they wouldnt want to fuck with me anyway, when riding public xpo i like to give that deranged rabies look, at least to potential perps

ive met him, so i may be a bit biased... but if he thinks that in that situation he could safely end the situation with a CC, then i'd put my life on it 10 times before i'd trust a cop once.

i dont like the fact that it was a bus (close area) either, but if that ever happened to me getting jumped by THOSE ZANY BLACKS i sure hope some BAD ASS SON like sturbo is there to protect my cracka ass

If somebody is potentially going to kill a friend, you gotta step in.

If you have a gun, even better.

kiljadn and EMCE be crazy. The whole train is not just supposed to sit there and watch as a dude gets his head stomped. I understand that some people will have that instinct, but others will not and it's fucked up to act like people who would step in are foolish and doomed to get their asses beat. It's not like teenagers have some magical super powers that kick in when they arrange in groups of three or more. It's totally okay to fight back when a life is on the line.

here are my steps to dealing with this type of situation...in order:

1. try to avoid the situation in the first place -- this is always, if possible, THE best option
2. if you can't, have sufficient means to protect yourself and defend yourself
3. if and only if the situation can't be avoided or talked out verbally, see step 4
4. if you can do it relatively safely, don't be hesitant to defend your life and wellbeing even if the other option is "be the better person"...being the better person doesnt always work out in real life

not to get too carried away with the numbering but i also speak from a position of someone who:

1. has ridden the light rail many times, sometimes with shady cats aboard
2. someone who has a concealed handgun permit, however who considers it a last resort and not some cowboy shit

well now its properly labelled as step four and not a second step three

bottom line: if you can avoid confrontation, do it...why ruin your day and possibly your year or life because of some douchebag stranger

HOWEVER

at the same time, you are a valuable and worthy person...dont let people walk all over you, especially physically, just because you don't want to start trouble...cause you didn't start trouble...you defended your well-being...thats as basic an instinct as food and sex

i would but its impossible...well its possible but

more police officers have been CHARGED, let alone convicted, for gun crimes, than CC permit holders

and when I say more, I mean as a percentage of all police officers compared to a percentage of all CC holders

i got the permit and a gun just in case we lose the right someday and all that (either cause of the LIBRLS OR FELONIES LOLZ), but i never carry (even in my car).... just kinda something i wanted to do

but i am very interested in stories (true ones) about cc people doing dumb shit. im sure its happened. every group has idiots!

ive ridden it, but even afterwards i figured that thered be someone who rides and takes tickets like maybe once a week or something, thats absurd to completely trust everyone in a city to pay for tickets

and it may have stopped this incident, if they were bragging about not paying for tickets then they may have been stopped at the gate

i mean they may have shelved out the 3$ and rode anyway, but a turnstile would be one more barrier between me and idiocy and i like to keep idiocy away

iirc, the light rail relies on the honor system as well as the punishment one might face should they get caught without their ticket.

gotta call out kiljadn on this one

I've never meet SaabTurbo and generally speaking, I want to get to know someone before I put my life in their hands

However it seems your sentiment overall is that "trained law enforcement officers" are somehow superior in dealing with life or death situations compared to a citizen who essentially takes the same steps...they were trained by their respective police departments, sure, and have a better handle on firearms handling than say...an average citizen...with no firearms training

but they're still regular people...what kind of LEO training to they get to make up for (a portion of the population's) stupidity?

i'm getting off topic but i'll share this story

a week or so ago I got a call about the security alarm going off at my office...it was like 7:30pm on a weeknight and I hadn't left more than an hour and a half earlier...somebody had cut through my chain link fence and opened up a cargo container that had nothing but a few boxes of papers in it...a year or so ago someone had broken in and tried to cut the locks to the trailer, failed because they are stout, and instead taken probably 30 minutes to cut the lock holes off of the actual trailer latches...crackheads are determined, what can you say...so the trailer is wired to the office alarm even though its never had anything other than paperwork in it

but the cops call me, i show up, take them inside the fence...mind you this is 30+ minutes after the incident...i know 99.99% the perp is gone...but the CMPD officer goes into the trailer gung ho talking about "CMPD, blah blah" which is protocol...I'm not knocking that

but then, even after showing them where the fence was cut, what I've done and can't do security wise money wise, they just seem ignorant...they're like "well maybe you can add some lights" (I have a couple high powered sodium lights illuminating the fence area they cut through), and they tell me "they probably want the ladders" even though they have never taken anything other than vehicle batteries/tires/etc

point is, cops aren't superheros...they're regular people...and while they might have more training than the average joe (who doesn't have firearm experience) they A) aren't somehow ultimately superior than a citizen with a CCP who has proper firearms training, and B) most importantly, can't be in 100 different places at once...cops are great when you need them, but they aren't always there when you need them in a timely situation...you can't rely on them saving your life if shit goes down and they aren't there...and in any decent sized city, shit WILL go down...hopefully you don't have to be there for it, but JeepMan311's story is just another example that you never know when you're going to be put in that situation

Nice paragraph in reply to my succinct statement that I've got more faith in a dude who goes to school to do a job and is required to be re-certified every set number of months than a guy who generally acts like a fucktard in poses with knives on the internet.

I never said cops were infallible, I'm saying that I'd trust one over Sob.

like I said, I've never met Saab...I'm sure he's a good guy and all that, but I'm not basing things on him

but the whole cops > TRAINED citizens thing is just untrue imo in general, and seems to be a talking point of the anti-gun groups, not that thats what you're trying to do

i had to specifically mention that i was calling you out cause you're a cool cat and all that, but i literally think somebody with an IQ of 90 could pass the police academy

not that all cops are like that, but just that cops are like everybody else...the majority are dumbasses

in other news, scientists are also perfect human beings just like cops, and global warming has been proven by these genius minds...but thats for another thread ha
