Actually it's not.

Over the past decade, tasers have transitioned from a "this is the last weapon I use before my pistol" to "this is the first weapon I use because I'm lazy."

It's a compliance weapon, plain and simple. If you don't do what they say, they're going to get annoyed and taze you. It's no different than a shock collar or some sort of electrode stick from a sci-fi movie.

Who cares? It was obvious he wasn't doing anything to any players 30 seconds after he was on the field. He was just running around like an idiot. All they had to do was chase him off the field and then it's game on.

Im assuming you mean 2 bullets? How the FUCK did you get that out of what I said??? My point was. If the idiot had kept his seat he WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TASERED!!! The cops/security don't randomly run into the stands and tase law abiding fans

and my point is I don't see how it can be justified as necessary in that situation, or what it really accomplished since the guy wasn't getting away.

if anything, it made this guy a mini celebrity...which all but but deters others.

^^ Yeah and if that black guy hadn't "reached for something" the cop wouldn't have shot him, right?

Uh, what does that have to do with anything? This kid had ALREADY broken the law. Reaching for something, last I checked, isn't illegal.

And you have NO idea what his intentions were at the time, running around for 10 seconds beforehand or not no matter how much you THINK you might.

nothing was obvious

what i will say though is that getting some stadium security that arent fatasses might allow them to chase down a 17 year old instead of having to get him from a distance

^^^now that is quality security work right there....

for the record, my personal objections are more with the assumption that it is necessary to use a taser in running on the field sutuations than anything to do with the danger of actually using it.

^when is it ever?

hypothetically speaking

lets say usain bolt runs on the field, and literally nobody can catch him

what do you do in that scenario (aside from sign him to a contract!)

because the security/cop who tased this kid was fat, ie he couldnt just chase down the kid

With the number of security people on/around any field, I would have serious reservations about retaining their employment if, collectively, they couldn't catch any human on this earth.

and I'm not saying I can't envision a scenario where use of a taser would be prudent...this situation was not it though.

Quote :

The 1st year the Bobcats played, when they were in the Charlotte Coliseum, the Lakers were in town. Some drunk guy in a Kobe jersey just walks around the lower level for about 20 minutes, trying to get people to cheer for the Lakers, and just running his mouth (no clue what he said). We didn't see him for a few minutes, and thought maybe he just sat down. Then, during a timeout, this guy decides to run onto the court. He basically runs in circles until security shows up, then tries to elude them. Unfortunately for him, one of the security guards lights his ass up at half court, pretty much spearing him. It was great.

Most of the people up here in Philly agreed that he was an idiot and deserved to get tasered. My problem with people saying "oh well what about the people that storm the court/field at NC State games, should they be tasered as well," is that they aren't doing it to gain attention to themselves. They are all celebrating together as a group. This asshat was just trying to bring attention upon himself and delay the game. The fans that rush the court/field at State games do it at the end of the game. Also it is something that has become expected around the country at college sporting events, not pro events, so it's not all that spontaneous and unexpected for security working the games.

And before someone says "oh well he's just 17", naw screw that. Watch Dave Chappelle's stand up sketch titled "How Old is 15 really?" Teenagers know the difference between basic right and wrongs. Everyone has to stop making excuses for these kids and hold them accountable. They aren't as naive as the way a lot of people portray them.

I think the general idea is that the potential livelihood of the athletes, managers, etc, is more important than the livelihood of one individual who knowingly broke rules and jumped onto the field...and god forbid if someone tazed at a sporting event dies...but if I had a heart condition I wouldn't jump onto a field...but I mean I wouldn't jump on a field in the first place which is more relevant...might as well jump on a NASCAR track during a race

fuck all you pussies

"omg, the little boy got tazed, THE HUMANITY!!!"

are you serious?? hundreds of people get tazed everyday. Hell, i've been tazed more than once myself. It knocks you flat on your ass for 5 seconds, and immediately after you feel no side effects. They are practically harmless.

This little dickhead jumped on the field to be an attention whore......well he got what he deserved. Fuck him

^^a baseball field isn't exactly the same setting as a tennis court (and that guy didn't charge the court -- he was able to approach her on a changeover when she was sitting on the bench)

^no side effects unless of course it kills you like it has in many documented cases.

it was obviously absolutely nec... because fatty is only getting more and more tired as the time wears on. it's not like, if my boy chasing him in the first 30 seconds didnt chase him, his chances were going to go up.

(according to a 2003 Department of Defense study) 99.4% of people tazed have no side effects after the fact...of the 0.6% that do, many less than that die

What if the guy had been tackled instead of tazed, then he had grabbed the cop's gun and shot him

Bottom line is very simple...don't go on the fucking field and you won't be tazered

Its really that simple

What wouldve happened had the security guard(s) had tackled him and broken his neck or back? There would be a HUGE outcry of. Why didn't he just tase him?!?!? Why did the guard(s) have to be so physically violent!!?!?!!

I don't think many people have been tased at sporting events in the past, I think mostly due to the fact that most cops didn't use to carry tasers and pepper foam like most of them do nowadays

That's a stupid argument. Either they're both crimes or they aren't. It's the exact same activity.

You don't. I also don't know that the person sitting next to me on the bus might suddenly pull a gun on me. I better taze them just to be safe. Wait, I'm not a cop, I can't get away with that.

Quote :

Ahh, the "athletes are human lives worth more than average citizens" argument.

Quote :

Here, I'm going to do something to you, and it has a 1 in 200 chance of killing you. Can I do it?

Quote :

Oh god and what if the cop had tripped, done a cartwheel, and the gun had landed on a squirrel that suddenly ran to Osama Bin Laden and he shot the cop. See, I can come up with crazy scenarios also.

Quote :

That's such a shitty argument that can be applied to anything.

I'm not turning this in to the Soap Box.. but simply put, this isn't true.

^ He isn't even making any sense any more, so I think it is best to simply ignore. Making comparisons between people who have already broken the law with someone sitting quietly on a bus is beyond foolish and not worth anyone's time.
