Here's some advice: if you're going to smoke, then stop viewing it this way. Stressing about how smoking is bad for you is probably worse for you than smoking. Stress ain't good man. Enjoy your smokes.

Because it's nothing you can't do yourself. DIY versions of these foods are:

(1) cheaper
(2) don't require people shipping stuff all over god's green earth (buy local)
(3) better for you

The Egg Mcmuffin has 840mg of sodium and 235mg of cholesterol for a start...One normal fried egg has like <100 grams of sodium.

making your own egg muffin is SOOOOO easy...my mom used to make them all the time for my friends and me and because of that i have continued to make them for breakfast. much healthier and tastier than mcdonalds.

Nothing beats yogurt and granola in the morning, with a glass of OJ. Fills you up, gives you energy, isn't too heavy to digest. Plus the granola helps u drop that critical mid-morning shit

there's nothing wrong with it. it's actually the healthiest thing you can order at a fast food place @ 300 calories and 12g fat

but.....

Nature's Grain Lite English Muffins = 80 calories and 0.5g fat
Pam butter spray = 0 calories and 0 fat
HT brand Egg Beaters = 60 calories/two eggs and 0 fat
Sara Lee Ham = 25 calories/3 slices and 0.25g fat

every little bit counts...and i find it tastier than and just as filling as the McDonald's version

I don't consider a meal automatically bad just because it has 25% dv of saturated fat. maybe it's just me, but at 3 X 25% = 75%, 25% per meal isn't so bad. i'll agree the sodium is a little high, but still, 3 X 35 = 105%, so imo it's not high enough to make it an unhealthy meal.

oh i know, i make them myself all the time (on whole wheat, with 2% cheese and good eggs), but it's not always feasible to make one when you're wanting some breakfast. you could be on the road, running late for work, going to work from the gym, whatever.

but yeah man, hell of a job going a year without fast food. there are many people jealous of your will power ITT. No you just need to apply it to the smoking

you're right, it's not all that bad for one meal, but I doubt all you eat is an egg mcmuffin for an entire meal, and that you only eat 3 similarly sized meals per day.

I agree.

Suggestions: Add fruit to the yogurt and sub water for the juice. Maybe throw in a hard boiled egg.

Not eating after 10 pm is one of the easiest things to do. Eat at 7 go to bed at 10. Then go to work in the morning. Simple. Or am I to much of an old man?

^yeah you're an old man. Also how do you eat so early? I don't get home from the gym till 6454-7pm most days. Dinner's 8-9 for me and sleep's around 12

Quote :

I know this is said over and over and over, but does this just apply in a situation where someone goes to bed around 11-12pm? I don't think it'd really matter if you eat at 10pm and then stay up till 2-3am.

gg tim. i would never be able to give up certain things. Zaxbys and Chickfila come to mind. But in moderation and with the help of a fast metabolism (that is slowing down by the months ) i've been ok so far. *knock on wood*. But i do agree, eating after 10pm is a terrible idea. I will never munch out after a night of drinking no matter how big the urge is.

Yeah I pretty much eat whatever I want and drink as much as I want and never gain weight or get fat, and I'm 30 years old

Although I have worked out or exercised multiples times a week for probably the last 25 years, so I don't really give a fuck how many calories or grams of fat I eat

From what I can tell, while that is solid advice, it isnt really applicable to everyone.

I believe genetics is the big factor. If your family grows up to be old, fat, and healthy, you're probably good to do whatever. On the other hand, if your family seems to die early of health issues, it should matter more to you. Even then, if your genes arent great, there is only so much you'll be able to do. You can spin on that treadmill everyday, but if genetics show you are prone to heart failure, diet alone isnt going to be able to change it much.

There are health nuts that die young every day just like there are old fat worthless turds that live to be 95.

Sure. But do you think people with not so perfect diets feel like shit all the time? My diet is probably better than most now (couldnt have said that 3 or 4 years ago), and I feel pretty much the same.

In any event, TKE has been able to do something most could not, and I salute him.

No they probably feel fine mostly, but only because they don't know the difference

As somebody whose nutrition fluctuates a lot, I notice these things. It's better to eat right. Not only do you feel like less of a piece of shit for going local and living more sustainably, but you feel better physically.

I guess it depends on what you intake.

I have this argument with my wife all the time. Before I met her, I ate pretty much one meal a day. very content with this. No problems. I have noticed the more I eat, the more I want to eat, and now I have gone back to my former simple rule: I eat when I am hungry, otherwise I dont eat.

I think overeating is probably a bigger problem than what you eat. And with everyone hearing all this crap about 3 meals a day, its no wonder people feel like crap. For me, breakfast is the WORST. It made sense when people were farmers, and were going to be out in the field burning a lot of calories, but if you're like most of us, we sit at a desk all day. No where to burn what you eat. No point in eating so much.

^^ me too
but i have like 8 trillion vitamin deficiencies it seems like and i am constantly adjusting my diet to accommodate and then i go back and discover i am deficient in something else. COME ON, BODY.

^ i guess its individual. i can't eat a huge breakfast. but if i eat some oatmeal i feel a lot better and more energized AND i stay full a lot longer. but on the days i eat breakfast i feel like i don't die in the middle of the day and need like a 4 hour nap. *shrug* it could be mental.

I, too, hope to start some DIY stuff (veggies, herbs, electricity, beer), but I need to get a house/apartment and job before that can happen. Not to stick to the man, but because I think the self-sustaining model combined with science is pretty damn cool. I don't think I'd be able to get a chicken coop going though , although I'm sure petejames could help

[plus, there's a DIY projects thread in Old School]

I usually would use a 1-serving blender and make a smoothie out of all of this. Yogurt, frozen fruit, juice, and sometimes protein mix into the blender, mix it up until done, then roll out and drink it on the way to work. Delicious. My mom adds granola but I don't like the taste of it, but I may try it again in the future.

One multivitamin a day could help out a ton.

I usually take measures to avoid eating fast food, but I'm not religiously against it. Kudos to setting a long-term goal and following through with it.
