elduderino - Everton (in toffee blue, please) - Prediction: 5th

A mostly optimistic prediction, however, we have slightly increased our stock in the striker department, arguably our weakest link. Beckford will get a chance to prove he's for real, and some of the younger players will likely get a chance to impress, mainly James Vaughan and Joao Silva. Behind the strikers, the rest of the starting XI will largely remain the same.

Questions to ponder:

1) Will either Mikel Arteta or Steven Pienaar be courted away from Merceyside?
2) Will Michael Bradley materialize, and if so, will he even make an impact?
3) Can the Toffees develop the consistency that has eluded them the past few seasons?

There were spurts last season where I would have argued Everton was the best team in the league, at least on form. At other times they looked like a team at the bottom of the table.

i dont see everton as high as 5th. maybe if they can stay consistent and healthy all season but i dont think theres really been a season where david moyes has had that.

id also like to know why you man city fans think buying more and more defensive center mids is gonna help them gain a few positions in the table..

JT, I'm in, since my Magpies are back in the top flight. And guess who we open up with......

Didn't we escape with a point two years ago at Old Trafford on opening weekend?

I think we'll be lucky to stay up after this campaign...

torres muscle rupture. what shitty luck to have it happen right before the game is over in the world cup final. they said it's not too bad, but he'll probably miss the start of the season

I went to the Bolton Wanderers vs. Charlotte Eagles game tonight. It was pretty good, bolton was obviously a lot better, I think the score was 3-0. They had most of their starters in for the first half so it was cool to see them, especially at such a small venue. Owen Coyle was chatting with the fans a bit and Zat Knight was the biggest soccer player i've ever seen in person. Martin Petrov was sick and scored a really nice goal, he'll probably be a really good signing for them.

My prediction for bolton is probably the lower half around 15, best case scenario 10th.

You guys up for a TWW fantasy league on the official Premier League site? I've been doing it for a couple years and enjoy it. I'll run it if we have the interest. No pay, just for fun.

I definitely stick it out on the site I'm on. 38 weeks is nothing. It's so low maintenance its not hard to put in the 10 minutes a week necessary to do well.

Here is the site.

Just go to join league and put in the code.

You can make as many free transfers as you want before the first week of games. After that, you can make 1 free transfer per week. Any extras deduct 4 points from your score. You also have ONE wildcard during the season where you can make as many free transfers as you want, but you only get one so don't waist it.

i used to do fantasy on this one. i got tired of it cause you can only make 1 transfer per week, then you lose points. its kind of annoying. :/

Most of the guys who do well in this format make about 3 transfers a week and just take the 8pt hit. I dig it because its so low maintenance.

also, not to persuade people away from the fantasy on here already, but me, d7, and kiljadn did the fantasy on yahoo sports, and i found that to be a lot more fun. i will be participating in that one when they start it up and ill post info of it on here. there are more stuff to score points with and you can change everyone up on your team without penalty in between weeks.

I might join the Yahoo group too. I've never done a fantasy league either but thought I'd finally give it a try this year with a sport that I actually follow.

Not gonna do fantasy this year. I suck too bad at paying attention to it after about 10 weeks, and there was stuff I didnt like about the Yahoo one - like how a player's value would go up but you'd only get what you paid for him if you were trying to sell him.

why aren't there any leagues with a draft online? i found one auction style league but it costs like 70 dollars. it seems like it'd be just as easy as any other sport to have a draft.

For some reason I'm watching Tottenham/San Jose on ESPN

Ever notice that English commentators are pretty terse and talk almost exclusively about the action on the field

Whereas American commentators talk non-stop for 90 minutes about anything but the match itself
