To figure out who has the best burger you have to judge the burger on it's basic merits, not with a bunch of shit piled on top. A bun, beef patty and cheese. It's like finding the best pizza place. Unless their plain cheese pizza rocks it doesn't matter what toppings you choose.
And it has to be a place that grinds their own meat. Not being able to order a burger less than medium well is just horrible 4/25/2011 10:56:51 AM |

It's not so simple...so many places have something going for them. No one burger covers all the bases for me.
If I want a simple burger with mustard, onions, chili, slaw...then I go to Char Grill. And get them to add mayo. I get about three cheeseburgers this way. Orgasmic. Fuck their hamburger steak sammiches. They ain't that good.
The interesting creations: I like Village Draft House/Harrison's/Sawmill, etc. for Fromage Au Trois (three cheese burger), Black and Blue, Jackson Hole, Carolina, Webster, etc. etc.
One of my alltime favorite burgers is the Brute Squad at The Borough.
Red Robin rocks my socks off. Endless fries adds to the appeal. Royal Red Robin, Whiskey River.
Cloos has the best sliders I have ever fucking put in my mouth.
You fuckers who call Players' Retreat "PR's"...you need to know one thing: You're saying "Players' Retreat's"...well, now I've gotten that out of the way, the Bernie cooked medium rare is wonderful, even if my asshole erupts like a volcano an hour after I eat it. Some things are just worth shitting your pants. The PR is one of them.
Sure, the Times is good, but so is the Bee.
Fat Daddy's has me for a couple of things...and one of them is all the toppings. Sure, there's not a lot of variety, but quantity more than makes up for it, especially with a big Rubbermaid spatula in a vat of Duke's mayonnaise. And I can put extra butter on my bun. The tomatoes could be riper, though.
Mojoes is so-so, but cheap late night.
I still love a good greasy double cheeseburger plate at the Awful House late night when I'm totally sloshed.
Cookout burgers suck moose cocks. Plain and simple. 4/25/2011 11:46:52 AM |

^MoJoes is great, their burgers are well cooked and they have excellent toppings, and their onion rings and dip are some of the best you can get around here. However, I never go to MoJoes before 10:30--after that the price of their burgers if half-off. I've had many late-night burger hops there due to the price and the quality. 6/3/2011 11:15:35 PM |

others of note: Backyard Bistro - backyard burger (eastern bbq on it), Char-Grill (classic), and I also really like Melvins but I'm probably alone in that opinion6/4/2011 12:57:28 AM |

I've had good burgers at several places in Raleigh
Shakedown Street probably has the most bland, awful one I've ever had anywhere.
Not even exaggerating. With every bite, I thought, "I should've gone to Hardee's"
and on the real real real real real, y'all need to try the burgers at Ruckus. You'll be pleasantly surprised, methinks.
*Cloos sliders are the jam, Times burger is outstanding. Seems I need to try PR's burger. LOL at the Red Robin shit.
