I feel like I enjoy this new album more than most people. It might be because the themes of the album are something I am already very interested in; I'm not sure. Maybe over time I will tire of it, but so far it has been on endless repeat for a month and if anything it has only grown more on me. It's not on the level of Funeral for me, but it's not very far off at all, and miles ahead of Neon Bible.

is there a general consensus that Neon Bible was a misstep?

other than the first bit of Black Wave/Bad Vibrations, there isn't a track I don't dig a bunch.

I think its right there with anything else Arcade Fire's done.

^yeh, i fucking love neon bible. i recall people liking it when it was released, but it has suffered a major backlash since then.

no cars go, keep the car running, ocean of noise, etc. etc. great album

i don't think there's a general consensus that neon bible was a misstep. a lot of people liked it a lot, and it got great reviews, i think people were just a little disappointed/upset that it didn't have neighborhoods 5-8.

Whenever WKNC plays Sprawl II by request I always think "aw shucks vinylbandit strikes again!"

Then realize there's no way he makes requests to WKNC.

i generally don't request things because i know it can annoy me to deal with requests

however, i have called wknc to ask for "i summon you" by spoon

I don't know I liked Half Life a lot but Half Life II is pretty crazy awesome by comparison. Episode One and Episode Two are probably two of my favorite "games" I've ever played. Can't wait for Episode Three.

My girlfriend and I do a webcomic, and our latest one is about a recent experience seeing the Arcade Fire in Atlanta, GA. Check it out. We update every late Monday/ early Tuesday. Be sure to zoom in to see all the details.

I was at that show and I must say I was wicked disappointment in the crowd. No one was tailgating which, you know, is fine if majority of their fans are not into that scene but inside the crowd was weak. I vaguely remember Win Butler commenting on the crowd being very subdued. I can only think maybe a lot of people hadn't heard the new album, I don't know. I was in the pit so I just expected some wildness but most people just swayed.

I was fucking dancing, that much's for sure.

like 90% of the (indie) rock concerts I go to have pretty garbage (in terms of energy/enthusiasm) crowds.

I've often heard it explained that such people are "too cool" to really cut loose.

I've always thought they were too uncomfortable/uptight.

Of course, I could just be projecting...

When I saw them at Merriweather Post Pavilion, people were going fucking nuts, especially for Rebellion Lies, Neighborhood #3, Wake Up, and Keep the Car Running. But, I will say that they were definitely way more subdued for the songs off of The Suburbs.

Also, I'm glad those mic problems didn't happen during "Rebellion (Lies)" at the show I went to, that was the highlight of the set for me.

^ I'm not sure if you've already addressed this or not, but were you able to get closer to the stage at that show?

^ I wasn't able to get into the pit because they had someone blocking the entrance making sure your tix were pit tix, and they were being pretty serious about it. But it worked out because our seats were only 15 or so rows back, so we could see everything and we were in the crowd, if that makes sense.

Whatever you do, though, do not buy lawn tix if you go to mpp unless you plan on upgrading somehow. You can't see the stage at all from the lawn because the seated area is a big tent.

first time i ever saw them was on conan

these recent videos remind me of the fact that they are, as a band, just as wacky as they were then, but have somehow become one of the biggest bands in the country. that RULES.

This is exactly right, imo. They have become enormously successful critically and (somewhat) commercially without compromising much at all. Since the 70s or 80s, this happens about once every 10 years. The last band to do it, in my estimation, was Radiohead. Now it's Arcade Fire.

I remember them playing all Arcade Fire songs on either monday night football or sunday night football once a couple years back.

They aren't that unknown.

^that's what makes all those posts so funny though. I mean a band who has a #1 album on the billboard charts and whose songs have been used on TV and for movie trailers for years now shouldn't be unknown. It just shows how ignorant and narrow-minded so many people are when it comes to music and these stupid awards. If it isn't played every 30 minutes on some major radio station it is labeled "obscure" to a large portion of the population.
