it seems as if many people on here are not that familiar with Cee-Lo. This man has been making quality music since 95'. I like this track but it really isn't anything that special, especially coming from him. You guys should check out his two solo albums. While they didn't sell that well at all, Perfect Imperfections is still in my top 3 of all time favorite hip hop albums. Young Man, One for the Road, and Big ol Words (damn) are absolutely the fire 8/21/2010 11:14:02 AM |

^^ Could not have said it better myself. His verses are always relevant, interesting and unique. He can sing as if he is still in church and then on the same track he spits it with the very best. He is definitely my favorite act in "Hip-Hop", if you can even put him in that genre. Saw him with Goodie Mob last year at the orange peel and it was pretty damn good. He came out and sang Crazy by himself and it was great. His versatility is the best part about him 8/21/2010 12:10:47 PM |

I've already said it, but "In Due Time" -- Outkast feat. Cee-Lo might be one of my top 5 rap songs of all time.
Never heard his solo stuff, but I used to love the Goodie Mob8/21/2010 1:40:48 PM |

lunch time...I think I might go with a heaping helping of fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and collared greens
my only hesitation is that eating said food might give me trouble in being able to fit into my blue jeans, as I may be too big for them after consuming the meal 8/21/2010 2:20:22 PM |

^^^while his solo discs are definitely different than any Goodie Mob releases, if you like his style at all, you should dig his cd's. Can't really describe them any other way than as to say they sound like Cee-Lo. Rapping one minute, singing his ass off the next, and following it up with a candle lit dinner at the waffle house 8/21/2010 2:36:47 PM |

I'm curious how the meeting went when he brought this to his label.
"So, yeah, guys, I wrote this song and I feel really good about it, I really feel like it's gonna be a huge hit. Like, as big as "Crazy" was."
"Great, we're glad to hear it."
"Yeah, I really think you guys are gonna like it. Oh, yeah, one more thing, the name of the song is "Fuck You.""

dope. I've played this song at least 10 times today just because of this thread. I had heard of cee-lo before but never really heard any of his music except for "Liberation" by Outkast - he had a verse on that, I believe. So thanks for turning me on (even though, apparently, I'm pretty late ha).

^^agreed. While I get that people like the jovial singing of profanity, the song doesn't really offer any interesting wordplay, great lyrics, or even a strong beat. It sounds really forced. 8/22/2010 3:22:23 PM |
DoubleDown All American 9382 Posts user info edit post |
lets have existential conversations about Cee-Lo's wordplay and forced musical undertones 8/22/2010 3:24:56 PM |
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
i can address these concerns
1. it's a soul song, not a hip-hop song, so it's the bass (and here, the left hand of the keys) that keeps the beat, not the drums. therefore, the beat itself should not override what's going on in the rest of the rhythm section.
2. this vocal here is about delivery, not wordplay. the cry-singing on the bridge is awesome and hilarious, as are the backing vocals through the song.
3. the idea here is the juxtaposition of the sound and content, not a track with a dylanesque lyric sheet. 8/22/2010 3:33:02 PM |
Dammit100 All American 17605 Posts user info edit post |
and i get the juxtaposition, i just don't think this song is as amazing and OMGWTFBBQ as everyone is making it out to be. 8/22/2010 3:35:08 PM |

i made a thread about it because i love cee-lo and this is a song that can appeal to almost everyone, and i thought i'd throw it out there since it's obviously not going to come in through mainstream channels because of the language
is it the greatest song of all time? of course not. is it the best single of this summer? quite possibly.
i'm just sayin' that when the hammond comes in the first time, that shit is EPIC 8/22/2010 3:38:05 PM |

Ever heard of Gnarls Barkley? That's Cee-Lo on vocals.
Also, while I enjoy the lyrics and think his delivery is spot-on, the overall soul groove of the song is just ridiculous and what really grabs me. Damn good stuff, thanks for letting us know, vinylbandit.8/22/2010 3:46:34 PM |
