2 I get called a redneck for calling out ignorant people?]
8/25/2010 2:02:16 PM
I believe you mean "2."
8/25/2010 2:03:27 PM
^^No, you are being a race/politic baiting fucking moron. That's why you got called a redneck.Neither race nor politics has anything to do with people believing in witches, warlocks, the sun revolving around the earth, or being unable to read a map - but being a moron does. And surprise, surprise... who looks the most like a fucking idiot in this thread? (hint: you)[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 2:24 PM. Reason : .]
8/25/2010 2:23:09 PM
wrong.several of these are politically based. furthermore, ignorance is ignorance.
8/25/2010 2:24:57 PM
None of that stuff is politically related at all, you fucking simpleton.
8/25/2010 2:28:24 PM
don't mind him, he's just another proudly ignorant conservative
8/25/2010 2:29:42 PM
What's political about NOT knowing geography? Also, what's political about believing Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11?That's not an opinion or a political stance. It is patently false.
8/25/2010 2:30:02 PM
These have nothing, whatsoever to do with politics? They are just completely random? You sir, are the simpleton.41% believe that Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11 (Even though President Bush himself said that he wasn't)63% of young Americans can't find Iraq on a map.90% can't find Afghanistan
8/25/2010 2:30:03 PM
1. History / Current Events2. Geography3. GeographyThose things are tied up in politics but they aren't political.
8/25/2010 2:31:21 PM
Stuff like this is why it's so easy to hate people. Sun revolves around the earth... really? You believe that shit and you still get to vote? Unconscionable. I'm really very strongly of the opinion that there should be some additional requirements to franchise than simply 18 year old citizen in good standing.
lol, none of those are politically based. Where Afghanistan is on a map? Politically based because politics created the borders of the country? WTF are you trying to say?If you're a Democrat, Saddam Hussein didn't have anything to do with Sept 11th, but if you're a Republican, he did? No. Again, it has nothing to do with politics.Snewf beat me to it.My mind has been blown by the logical fallacies going on in this thread.[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 2:32 PM. Reason : .]
8/25/2010 2:31:25 PM
^,^^^the basis of asking them or the relevance of asking them is all about politics. those questions were not randomly selected. they were selected because they are politically relevant.[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 2:33 PM. Reason : /]
8/25/2010 2:32:00 PM
its not politicsits civicsa citizen of a country should know WHERE they are at warotherwise they've failed as a citizen regardless of their political beliefs
8/25/2010 2:33:35 PM
Doesn't matter one bit why they asked, the simple fact is that those aren't matters of opinion or altered by one's political leanings. If I ask someone where California is on a map because it's in the news due to an upcoming ballot initiative on marijuana legalization, their opinion on the issue in no way changes whether or not they can locate the mother fucking state.
8/25/2010 2:34:22 PM
political relevance.

8/25/2010 2:34:47 PM
You are the only fucking moron in this thread arguing the politic point. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together - again, not you - sees that idiocy spans well beyond any political boundaries.
8/25/2010 2:35:00 PM
political relevance.why weren't sweden, norway, chad, nigeria asked about, etc, etc, etc,?political relevance.[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 2:37 PM. Reason : .]

8/25/2010 2:37:20 PM
Even if that were the case, wouldn't it make sense that people would KNOW where the place was instead of NOT KNOWING?No, apparently it wouldn't. Not to you, anyway, because you're just representative of that large percentage of Americans that is an absolute moron and doesn't know his dick from his fucking elbow.
8/25/2010 2:37:49 PM
this thread is about ignorance, you know.
8/25/2010 2:38:29 PM
It seems we all know, except you.
8/25/2010 2:39:09 PM
Oh, I know. The lot of you are all ignorant.
8/25/2010 2:39:36 PM
I think Americans might need to know jack-deuce about Islam before they can decide whether someone is Muslim or notnice videobut I can tell that guy's liberal bias based on his "gay accent" and all the books behind him
8/25/2010 2:39:42 PM
so supplanter doesn't get flamed for his posting of an obama-ignorance video?I wonder why? oh wait, because that one is probama and mine weren't.!
8/25/2010 2:40:53 PM
Why not Sweden, Chad, Nigeria, etc?I'll reiterate:
8/25/2010 2:41:03 PM
wdprice3 expresses his sentiment about Americans who:Believe in evolutionDon't believe in Witches & WarlocksDon't think Saddam Hussein had anything to do with the 9/11 attacksDon't believe that the Sun revolves around the EarthCan find Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Amazon river on a mapAlso those who are black, and liberal, or who voted for President Obama
8/25/2010 2:41:43 PM
thus.... ignorance of politically relevant issues/places/etc.
8/25/2010 2:41:54 PM
8/25/2010 2:42:15 PM
keep the personal attacks coming. they're great!
8/25/2010 2:43:20 PM
just because something is politically relevant doesn't mean that it is NOT a geographic factif anything people should know MORE about countries in the news a lotlike where they are, for example
8/25/2010 2:43:23 PM
move 2 soapbox!
8/25/2010 2:43:32 PM
when did I say that those weren't geography questions as well? I must have posted that when I blacked out, but I can't find it.those questions weren't asked for geography knowledge only... they were asked because of.... political relevance.[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 2:44 PM. Reason : .]
8/25/2010 2:44:20 PM
Barring political relevance (which I'll grant you is very likely the reason that the poll was conducted), the objective truth of the matter is that a high percentage of the American populace can't find a country on a map. What is more disturbing is that because it is a country prominently featured on the news you can then infer that Americans are fundamentally disconnected from the actions of their own government. This is problematic on many levels.
8/25/2010 2:44:36 PM
Snewf, give it up. At least those people are ignorant. You can teach someone who is ignorant, but not one who is stupid.
8/25/2010 2:45:33 PM
8/25/2010 2:46:21 PM
I don't think this guy is stupid thoughI think he's being willfully obstinateor trolling the lot of us
8/25/2010 2:47:10 PM
wait wait wait. when did the OP become a left vs right issue? I said nothing about that. I just said the questions were politically motivated.
8/25/2010 2:47:29 PM
USA #1

I can only hope our two party system crumbles sooner than later. I guess with fellow countrymen like more than half of those polled, evidence suggests the freethinker is pretty hard to come by.
8/25/2010 2:53:23 PM
free thinker?try thinkerintellectual curiosity is routinely punished in our culture
8/25/2010 2:54:02 PM
if the questions were asked to further a political agenda, that doesn't make the questions themselves political. if i ask 100 people if they smoke pot, b/c i'm in favor of legalizing it, that doesn't make their answer an issue of politics.
8/25/2010 2:55:48 PM
I believe that there are witches because there are people who self-identify as such. I don't think they have magical powers beyond an uncanny ability to rebel against their parents, but yes, I believe that wiccans exist. And are stupid.I'm pretty sure that about 20% of people polled were pulling the pollsters' legs. Either that, or they were paid by the government to feign stupidity so that the rest of the world will underestimate us or think that we're so stupid we're dangerous, so they'd better be nice.[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 2:58 PM. Oh no, people are incredibly stupid, but I'm not buying that they're so stupid that a fifth of them think the sun moves around the earth.

^I'll never forget this exchange that I had at school during the first Gulf War. I was in the 4th Grade, and it may well and truly be the first time that I was aware of giant gaps in intellect amongst people. Keep in mind I lived in a military town.Me: Hey, is your dad going to the gulf?Other kid: Yeah, he's gonna go over there and kill some of them Saudi Arabians!Me: .... we're not fighting the Saudis, we're fighting Iraq. Some other kid: NU-UH! It's on the NEWS! We're fighting SAUDI ARABIA!Me:

^That's because The Doctor went back in time to WWII but was unable to stop him from being murdered by the Daleks...And I contend, right now, that finding Iraq on a map is unnecessary, because soon we will rename it to whatever we want. Amirite?I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
