Good for them to decline it. Maybe they are holding out for more

^Yea, that blows my mind

I don't have a clue how much ownership each of the three original founders of the company still has after giving out shares to investors, but even if it's only 15% each you're talking almost $1 billion a piece. What is the point of even holding out for more? How is your life going to be any different with $3 billion in your pocket than $1 billion?

^^ I don't know these people, but my guess would be that their either blindly greedy or blindly idealistic. Money might not be their motivation. I don't know.

With that said, I'd pick up that cash in a heartbeat.

For real. How much more revenue do they expect?

This isn't like Yahoo offering facebook 1 billion back in the day.

Groupon started off as thepoint.com, which is a social engineering site with very idealistic goals. I imagine they want to harness the success of groupon and focus it back on something like the point before they sell.

more than likely, the buyout was some sort of staggered deal, subject to groupon meeting certain performance targets over a few year span, and typically such incentive based buyouts are not achievable.

Now, if it was a straight up cash offer, they're idiots for not selling.

I agree. If it was up to me I'd peace out and take $1 billion and then spend the rest of my life doing whatever the hell I feel like doing.

Though maybe they just don't wanna sell to Google. I mean google's owners are kinda douchy.

If I had an option to sell something that would net me 1 billion dollar bucks, the last thing I would be worrying about was whether or not someone was "kinda douchy".

I love how everyone is all like 'sure as shit i'd take the money' like the Groupon founders are idiots for not doing so...without even knowing anything about the deal, much less without the perspective of growing something that big from nothing.

there have been some pretty decent ones...

i did:
Quote :
"$10 Groupon to Chubby's Tacos at 2444 Wycliff Rd. in Raleigh

AAA Carolinas

Boylan Bridge Brewpub

$20 Groupon to Mawa's Taste of Africa

$22 Groupon to Backyard Bistro

Koka Booth Amphitheatre's A Reel-ly Scary Cary Movie Series: Bram Stoker's Dracula on Saturday, 10/30 at 7:00pm

Koka Booth Amphitheatre's A Reel-ly Scary Cary Movie Series: Zombieland on Wednesday, 10/27 at 7:00pm

Goodberry's - 1146 Kildaire Farm Rd., Cary, NC 27511

$25 Groupon to Rally Point Sport Grill"

and from LivingSocial, i got the $30 at Boylan Bridge Brewpub, $30 at Frazier's (today's deal, actually), $20 at Ole Time Barbeque, and $40 at Thai Spices & Sushi

I'm not saying they're idiots for turning down the money.

I'm just giving my personal guarantee that if I'm ever offered $6,000,000,000 for any piece of work that I've created it will be gone as quickly as I can sign the papers.

There's actually a local company called ZSpotDeals.com that has better deals than Groupon and most are around here. They have a deal today for $20 of food for $9 at Ruckus Pizza on Avent Ferry. Visit them at: http://www.zspotdeals.com

The last time I ate at MV Ruckus, 4 years ago, I saw the cook dig deep into his nose right before he grabbed my sandwich. I'm scared to eat there again. Have they hired some kitchen staff who aren't filthy since then?

Can you convince them to pay me $9 for emotional hardship?

Google is coming out with "Offers" which will cut groupon in half.

I tried it for a while. I honestly don't see what is good about it.

I don't have the time or the spam-tolerance to get those emails. I guess I'm just one of those people who buys things as he needs them and accepts the cost premium that comes with it. Thought that was the point of the economy.

i don't give referrals to people i don't know...not because i'm mean, but why would i? what do i get out of it?

anyway, if boylan brewpub's food didn't suck, that'd be a decent deal...but their beer prices are somewhat high (even if i do like most of their beer) and their food is meh (as opposed to saucer or natty greene's, which have better-than-average bar food, IMO)

So you would rather purchase it from a link with no referral, than give it to someone that is considerate and posts it to let people know about it? I understand if you would rather give a referral to a friend than this random person, but if you're saying you would rather buy it from a link with no referral at all, that really makes no sense to me.
