UCF beat a D-2 team 38-7, we beat a D-1AA team 48-7. Sagarin (I know) predicts us by a point.

I like our chances.

I'm going to be too far north to buy it even if I could.

a bit ahead... but if 10 more more people get tickets via GT's website for the game in Atlanta they are only $23 each...

I can probably get some Tech people to fill out 10 but would rather sit with State people if anyone is interested.

^^what? i see now, if 10+ people order tickets the rate gets reduced from $45 to $23 per ticket

they're smoking something if they want $45 or even $23 for those seats though.

i think I'll just end up scalping some at the gate

have you been to a game there before? The stands are as close to the field as any stadium I have ever been in... you can be at the very top and its basically equivalent to the first row of the upper deck at CF

HD predicts a Wolfpack Win

"NC State 35, Central Florida 21: It was Tom O’Brien’s first season when the Pack lost to UCF in 2007, but this time the Knights won’t be able to stop Russell Wilson and NC State’s defense will take another small step forward. "

"UCF, similar to what ECU has done locally, has not shied away from playing big name opponents on a regular basis. In 2009 the Knights played Texas and Miami, losing both. In 2008 they played South Florida, Boston College and Miami. They lost all three, the South Florida defeat coming in overtime.

And the last time Central Florida beat a BCS team? At N.C. State in Tom O'Brien's first game with the Wolfpack."

Another tomato can we need to smash

thats how i see it, it should be easy and our young players need to be on the field by the middle of the 3rd period to get some quality experience for the future

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/nc-state-wont-release-injury-report

Quote :
"N.C. State won't release injury report

N.C. State fans - and Central Florida's coaches - will have to wait until Saturday to find out the status of Wolfpack backup quarterback Mike Glennon.

Coach Tom O'Brien said today that N.C. State will not release an injury report for Saturday's 7:30 p.m. game because Central Florida will not. N.C. State sports information director Annabelle Myers said ACC policy doesn't require teams to release injury reports if the opponents don't also release them.

"Why would I give my opponent an advantage?" O'Brien said as he walked off the practice field today.

Glennon suffered what was called a bruised left knee in Saturday's season opener against Western Carolina, but there has been no update on his status since after the game.

If O'Brien can't play, Daniel Imhoff will back up starter Russell Wilson."

This is a game we should win, but since it is on the road, I am pretty nervous about how we'll do. Hopefully we score first and then the guys can relax, but falling behind on the road would probably put a lot of these younger players in panic mode. Hopefully Wilson will lead the offense as always and the defense will force a couple of turnovers. Still expect a very close game.

I feel pretty good about this game.

Not that the last time we played them really matters, but don't forget that Kevin Smith was on their team back then. He single-handedly beat us (along with Daniel Evans).

I wish we took more risks on defense and gave up more big plays instead of allowing long drives. Even if we gave up the same amount of points it would feel better knowing our defense wasn't tired and we had the chance to make moral-crushing plays.

Plus it extends the game and gives our offense more chances to score and wear out the other teams defense.

Quote :
"NC State's running game making progress

Entering last weekend's game against Western Carolina, NC State had five offensive linemen who had never started a game and two running backs who had never even played in a college game.

It was hardly a disaster.

Starting running back Dean Haynes ran for 69 yards and a touchdown, and freshman Mustafa Greene had 35 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.

"Our thought process early was keep it simple," coach Tom O'Brien said. "Hold on to the football, run to the goal line and straight up the field -- no bouncing, no doing anything. As the game progressed and everybody started to get a little more in sync and get into the flow of things and get used to playing, we did a couple different things with them. As the game went on, we got better up front and with both of those kids running the football."

O'Brien said the offensive line did what it had to do for the pass protection, and was going in the right direction the whole night. This week they've worked on some fundamentals. True freshman Robert Crisp started at left tackle in place of starter Jake Vermiglio, and O'Brien called it an "exceptional performance for a freshman."

"What you see in him is really good athletic ability," O'Brien said. "You saw a great tenaciousness. He's got a certain confidence about himself, and he did a great job."

Vermiglio, one of three players held out after facing charges in April that have since been dropped, is still practicing this week and his status could be a game-time decision."

I've been to two of our bowl games at their stadium (Champs Sports/Tangerine in '01 and '03) and while it is a shithole, to be sure, it does have good sightlines and the stands do sit right up on the field. It's in the ghetto and the facilities are falling apart but when you're in the stands it's pretty good.

I have faith in our offensive production, especially as the running game matures, but I do worry about our defense in our road opener. Probably going to be something of a shootout.

GT's stadium is right on campus, right near dorms. I would not call that the ghetto. Yeah there are some ghetto places surrounding the campus, but it's not like you are going to get shot as you leave the stadium (like Turner Field or at the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium).

Oh shit, my bad.

Well I seem to remember UCF's stands being close to the field too. But maybe I'm just an idiot.

GaTech's stands don't curve, or at least not very much. So yeah, that's much more on the field than I was talking about.

damn, I don't remember hearing this story back in 2008. Really sad..

from UCF Coach O'Leary's Wikipedia page:

Quote :
"Ereck Plancher death

On March 18, 2008, running back Ereck Plancher died after conditioning drills. According to four UCF football players interviewed by the Orlando Sentinel, Coach O'Leary verbally abused Plancher throughout the workout, and continued to push the young man to perform despite what they reported to be obvious physical signs that Plancher was in no shape to continue.[10] According to the four unnamed players, O'Leary cursed at Ereck Plancher in a post-workout huddle. Plancher collapsed shortly after the workout and was immediately attended by UCF athletic trainers. He was then transported to a nearby hospital where he died approximately one hour later.

Subsequent to the Orlando Sentinel article, ESPN's "Outside The Lines" program on November 2, 2008 interviewed players who were at the training session at which Plancher became ill and after which he died; they stated that the session was longer and far more rigorous than O'Leary and other UCF Athletics officials have admitted to publicly. They also alleged that O'Leary and other coaches had initially warned players against providing assistance to Plancher when he became visibly distressed. UCF medical records indicate that UCF coaches and trainers knew that Plancher had a sickle-cell trait which could lead to problems, and even death, during high-intensity workouts.[11]"

thats when the trainers should have stepped the hell in and overridden the coach

thats their fucking job and there is a trainer at every station and segment of a collegiate football practice, no fucking excuse thats pathetic and chicken shit

thats not even considering the fact that he had a condition. these schools are gonna start clamouring for big money more and more and shit like this will be commonplace cuz no one fuckin gives a damn about that nigger unless hes makin you money and thats ALL hes there for.

i dont believe that athletes need to be paid at all, but I feel this type of bullshit shouldnt happen. Trainers cant feel like they could lose their jobs if they intervene, nor should they value the potential loss of a job over a mans life

sorry for my rant, but that is very sad

when we play this way it leaves less margin for error because each possession takes so many minutes off the clock. I think WCU dominated us in the time of possession. As a result, we play the entire game with a tried defense and the other team has an energized rested defense that is more likely to make amazing plays to stop us late in the game.

If we blitzed more we would flip that, force more turnovers, sacks and at the very least have a fresh defense at the end of the shootout from dominating time of possession. We would also get more chances to stop the other team because the game would have many more possessions.

i actually agree with mamba on this one

that duke game was horrible not just b/c we were getting our ass beat, but b/c it was 5 yd pass, 5 yd pass 5 yd pass, followed by a 5 yd pass. i'm no football savant, but when the opposing team is on the 5 yd line, it doesnt work well to have your corners give the receivers a 7 yd cushion.

if they beat us over the top for 50 yds, at least we could say they beat us b/c they were faster/better/something. i hate watching that dink and dunk shit for a loss.
