I wouldn't call anyone an idiot for not knowing a music artist but I've known both since they became famous.

I also guarantee you that outside of kids, white people, and pop/country listeners, most people had no idea who taylor swift was a year ago. That being said, the people included in that group would be a very small % and you probably have no idea just because everyone you know fits into the demographic I just excluded.

That said, nicki minaj has appeared in 5 times as many top 40 songs as swift had appeared in one year ago this time.
