I got a job offer from a local engineering firm that designs radio towers. they asked me during m interview if I would be willing to climb towers if repairs needed to be done. I was like fuuuuuuuck no. Thankfully I was offered my current job the same exact day and didnt have to worry about that nightmare

If you do fall at least you have ample time to say your last prayer.

This video was passed around my workplace today (structural engineering firm that has plenty of people climbing towers) as a "holy crap what NOT to do" video.

I've always wondered how they do pole top rescue of injured workers on these towers. It's dangerous enough on a electrical power pole that's only 40-100 feet tall.

you can't get a helicopter beside one of these towers; the rotor blades would be too close to the tower before you could make any attempt at a rescue.

Parachutes aren't that hard to carry up... No more than a tool belt.

http://www.cbc-raleigh.com/capcom/news/2002/corporate_02/tower_collapse/tower_collapse.htm

Quote :
"On Thursday, March 14, 2002, a Piper single-engine plane ran into the guy wire of one of Capitol Broadcasting Company's television transmission towers near the Harnett-Lee County line, pulling down the 1,800 foot tower and killing the pilot. Fayetteville television station, WKFT Channel went off the air when the tower fell around 4:30pm."

Rescues on towers are very technical. Most of the time the local crews will have no idea how to proceed or even have the equipment to do it (you need epically long ropes). I was present for a rescue that took over 9 hours.
