Paul Johnson is 0-1 against the horrible coach Tom O'Brien. Why do you keep supporting that loser?

Pretty sure it's 0-3 or something. TOB beat PJ a couple of times when they were at BC and Navy.

Also I support the premise of what this thread has turned into.

at first i forgot about the comments made by goalielax but now, yes, the ball-busting is totally deserved.

I think most of Tenuta's issue at ND was the distraction of the ineptitude of Weiss. That and Weiss was probably eating all the donuts in the morning before all the coaches got to the office. (that would seriously piss me off)

guys, again, let's slow down here.

to say that a dude who was a mediocre to bad DC at notre dame, who plays better teams than shitty georgia tech, was only bad b/c of charlie weiss now that he's helping coordinate a team that has won four games is getting a little bit ahead of ourselves.

no doubt he has helped, but a good game as a linebacker coach doesn't indicate that someone else is to blame for your struggles as a DC.

Every GT fan I know wishes they had Tenuta back.

There are plenty of reasons why the D this year is better than last year. Players are healthy, we have depth, etc. But the blitzing is a big part of forcing TOs, sacks, etc and being one of the best in the nation on 3rd down.

It's obvious something is working. I for one appreciate Jon Tenuta.

Tenuta is a legitimate college defensive coordinator. He may not be one of the best out there, but he's actually qualified for the position. Considering he's the LBs coach right now, he's overqualified.

We're going to get burned eventually this year. Our secondary still looks iffy, especially if a team can pick up our blitz and go deep on them...but that's still a million times better than the garbage we saw last year during the Duke/BC/FSU string of games.

ND is a tough place to succeed at. Brian Kelly damn near went undefeated last year and he's 1-3 in South Bend

Granted he had a couple bad years at ND, and I'm not gonna put all the blame on Weiss (though he certainly deserves some of it) but those 2 bad years don't negate like 20 good years he had at GT and other stops. Coaches can have bad years and not be terrible.

^^ im kidding. as others have said, Tenuta's entire career speaks for itself. GT, UNC, bout everyone else wishes he was at their schools'. He did have Manti Te'o but not sure how good the Def. personnel was all around and ND plays a pretty tough schedule every year.

317 rushing yards

3 TDs in the 4th quarter

lol because that last TD was the defenses fault

the defense was fine for most of the game, then about midway through the 3rd quarter we regressed to 2009 style tackling. still better than last year.

i don't think anyone here thinks that Obrien is currently better than Goiter.

But isn't Goiter the longest tenured coach in the conference now? Someone is paying him for a reason.

Obrien has potential though, and he appears to be doing it the right way. I would take Obrien over Davis, Cutcliffe, and Grobe right now. Emphasis on right now. If we go 2-5 the rest of the year, that's a problem.

Give Taylor credit. You put any other quarterback in there that is even 20% less mobile than him and I think it's a completely different ball game. He was bailing them out of MANY situations.

It was just a matter of they imposed their will on us through much of the second half and we didn't have a good answer. I think on both sides of the ball we got a little bit outcoached. Guys gave 100%, we're still 4-1 with a very good opportunity to go 5-1 next week.

He is every bit as slippery as vick back in the day from what I saw today (given our shitty arm tackles). However, I will never refer to him as a great quarterback, bc his passing ability is just good enough to bail him out. all his passes are either too high over the middle or knee high down the sideline.

we got beat today by the medicine we normally give out.

what's frustrating though, is that you could tell the calm, cool and collected Mr. Wilson was pressing. That last INT was off his back foot and under pressure. On first down that is just a bad decision. That INT in the endzone, what was he thinking? Triple Coverage. He could have run for the first down or close to it.

After the kickoff return, we respond, that's positive as hell, but then they bust off the long run for the TD.

You also can't count the TD late in the game, would have been nice if they held them of course, but the game was really 34-30, a LOT of $$$ changed hands on that TD. And we left at least 10pts on the field.

We've just got to put together 4 qtrs.

Thinking about it (allow me to pontificate), i think the thing that hurt us actually, from a psych standpoint was being up 17-0. Those first three drives were just too easy almost, the rope a dope or something. A mature team, a seasoned team, puts the game away right there. But you have to admit, anyone that can't admit, that we've come a long way since last year, is just a bitter troll

I blame the coaching more for pulling the reins when we were up 17. In order to do what our coaches want we have to have a dominant o line that can milk a clock and wear down the d. We don't have that yet. Not by a long shot. Coaches need to see the team they have and continue to march down the field rather than over manage.

state just lost to an ECU team that was blown out of the fucking water by UNC

our defense gave up 27 points in regulation

they also got us the ball on the 1 yard line once

so they were -20 points in the game. yep, definitely the reason we lost

I know this guy is an idiot but our defense forced 4 fumbles, one of which, that was a definite score. They forced three straight 3-and-outs in the 4th with the game on the line. We held one of the highest scoring teams in the country to 27 points and that was with 21 in the first quarter. I would say the defense did pretty well considering what this game might have looked like last year. GTFO

really? you guys are fucking morons

A FUCKING CONFERENCE USA TEAM JUST PUT UP NEARLY 500 FUCKING YARDS ON NC STATE AND YOU ARE DEFENDING THE DEFENSE BECAUSE OH LOOK THEY WOULD HAVE GIVEN UP 600 OR MORE IF THEY DIDN'T ALSO FORCE FOUR TURNOVERS SO YAY DEFENSE FOR ONLY BEING REALLY SHITTY INSTEAD OF REALLY REALLY SHITTY! WOOOO!

when did this place get renamed Inside Carolina State?

Quote :

and when the offense took the lead in the 4th and the team needed to defense to make one stop to win the game, what happened? they let them move right down the field with a 31 yard pass. and in OT when the team needed a stop? they promptly gave up SEVEN consecutive positive yardage plays in OT

Defense had a bad quarter...but other than that, they put us in the position to win the game and the offense didn't come through. Same thing happened in the Virginia Tech game. We're up 17-0 (thank to a return INT), defense gives the offense several short fields, yet they couldn't capitalize except for a field goal or two.

There were some missed tackles...but other than the 1st quarter, the defense came through stops, forced turnovers, and although they bent a little, they did not breaks. And say what you want about ECU being a conference USA team...their offense is VERY good. Their defense, however, is ABYSMAL.

So I would say this loss falls about 85% on the offense and about 15% on the defense.

And goalielax can suck a dick. Hope he enjoyed last year, because that's not going to happen again. We should have beaten Tech worse than we did anyways. Paul Johnson will turn into a joke in a BCS conference...even a shitty ACC one.

I guess if we played a shitty Paul Johnson coached team every week then our numbers would look a lot better.

Total Net Yards
GT - 363
ECU - 496

lol - so the defense gives up almost 500 yards and you can find a way to excuse them, but the offense puts up almost 500 yards and it's their fault. that's some fancy mental gymnastics you're pulling off

state got embarrassed by ECU. spin it however the fuck you want and deflect by insulting PJ all you want. the fact remains the even the best team TOB has fielded at state sucks hard enough to lose to fucking ECU

It's Tenuta's first year, meanwhile Archer has been here for a while and has never shown that he can field a decent defense. I'd rather keep the heat on the DC than Tenuta.
