Born and raised in Plaza Midwood. I'll count people growing up in Charlotte if they actually did unique things in Charlotte. If they just went to malls and Carowinds they aren't from Charlotte. 9/22/2010 11:43:54 AM |

The new music factory place near downtown is pretty cool although it's a little hard to find. It's got some good bars and two music venues, I don't know if there's a good show playing there or not though. If you're actually in downtown near the basketball arena, check out Phil's bar. It's small but almost all the bartenders are girls who are hot as fuck because i'm pretty sure most of them are panther's cheerleaders. 9/22/2010 11:48:08 AM |

I'll be in Charlotte this weekend for a weekend. Looking for a place downtown to watch the State game on Saturday. We're staying nearby the Panthers stadium. 9/22/2010 3:55:51 PM |

lol what is this bullshit?
^^yes, blackfinn is now the host of the charlotte alumni chapter. it's a pretty decent place to catch a game in the afternoon. ]9/22/2010 4:20:58 PM |

I will be working the first half of the day Saturday, then heading back to Greensboro. So I won't need to worry about finding a place to watch the game on Saturday. Mainly just looking for ideas for tomorrow night and Friday night. 9/22/2010 4:37:13 PM |

^^I'm simply saying I've met plenty of people who grew up in Charlotte without ever actually doing anything in the city. They can site Carowinds, South Park Mall, or various franchise owned restaurants but when it comes to unique local places, museums, specific events, festivals, or areas of the city they draw a complete blank.
The point I'm trying to make is every suburban town or intersection has its own version of Blackfinn. That's the equivalent of telling someone from Raleigh to go to the Flying Saucer, Stool Penguins, or Buckheads when they're identical to the ones in Raleigh. There's nothing unique about them nor do they have any redeeming qualities.
I guess "what to do in Charlotte" is completely relative. If you want to drink a beer and watch the game then that's not really doing something unique to Charlotte. That's more along the lines of "where can i drink a beer and watch the game?".
I'm simply trying to point out that despite popular belief there are actual things to do in Charlotte that don't involve going into stereotypical bar A and drinking stereotypical beer B.
For example I don't typically go to Alive after Five at the Epicentre unless someone else is paying because A. I'm not paying $4 for a bud-light when I can get a Guinness, Bell's Two Hearted, or Magic Hat #9 for $1.50 somewhere which actually has character and B. i don't like shitty cover music. I'd rather hit up the Neighborhood Theatre or see a show at the Double Door because both have character.
Charlotte is already bad about tearing apart history for flashy new buildings, it's sad so many people completely neglect and ignore what character Charlotte actually has. 9/22/2010 4:47:39 PM |

lol I actually used to go to the applebees in Ballentyne to pregame for parties when I was in highschool... always had a good time
but then again, I was in highschool
also, flying saucers are different all over the country (i've been to 3 now, and each was completely different than the rest, except for having a large selection of good beers)

i went to several museums, went to plenty of events
it sounds like the man is getting off of work at 9pm, so night life is really what he is looking for
if I have free time during the day, Charlotte is one of the biggest disc golf centers in the world, so I'd probably touring the courses down there. Or go up to the concord area. Or go to the nascar hall of fame. Or go check out the Polk house... But none of that shit is really doable at 9PM and later... 9/22/2010 4:59:40 PM |

If you're trying to get some Chinese food while you're in town, since you're in the South Park area, you ought to hit up Bao Ding at Sharon Corners (corner of Sharon and Fairview)...best Chinese in town
and the "i'm from charlotte" when you're from concord/mooresville/huntersville etc is only ok when you're out of state and people havent heard of " / " / " etc
but if we're in raleigh and you tell me you're from charlotte and i'm like "what part" and you're like "weddington" i'll be like "stfu"
