If TOB is ever going to beat BC then this would be the year to do it, that said:

BC: 27
NCSU: 24

Boston College doesn't look like they have a good offense this year. Our offense is streaky, putting points up, then resting on their laurels for quarters at a time. Here's to hoping we get off to a good start then actually finish by putting them away. At least get 2 or 3 full quarters out of our offense this time.

we have to learn to finish teams off.

that being said, i see the defense returning to the blitz much more in this game and getting a few TOs on that side of the ball. State by 10

if we don't blow the next 2,

we will be ranked again probably as well as playing on a thursday night, (with FSU probably ranked)

it will be as big as the virginia tech game.

A loss here is a potential death blow to our season.

That said I think we wipe them out 34-14.

I won't be able to watch because of a wedding honestly I can't believe anyone would be so rude to schedule a wedding during a home game but in his defense who the fuck knew wed be relevant this year

Well that really depends on how the Miami game goes this week. Let's hope Miami wins, but not by a wide margin

^^having the best qb in the conference in his junior year with an all ACC TE, and one of the best linbackers in the country coming off a major injury

that would clue me in.

observations of the running game:

it seems to me that we tend to run the ball better out of the gun with traps/delays than we do lining up in a tight set. am i the only one noticing this? i think we went away from the run some against VT because we were getting stuffed when lining up in a big set. we were able to be more successful when there was the threat of a pass, hence the better runs came out of the shotgun or spread formations.

I'm just ready for Saturday to be here so I can get the bad taste out of my mouth from last week. However, if we lose, I may just curl up into a ball and wither away.

not sure if you were retorting to me or not. but here's my rant about forgetting about nate irving in 2009:

let's go back a year.

we lost to USC game 1, 7-3. all it takes is that nfl suspension facemask grab or a caught pass and we win 10-3.

that's 4-0. then duke/wake games. both of those with nate irving suddenly become winnable easily.

there's 5-0 and and then 6-0. could you imagine that? probably not. since we didn't have irving. but it probably would have happened last year if we had nate irving.

another notable game is the FSU game of 2009. a literal shootout with no defense on either team. throw a healthy irving in the mix and suddenly it's not 45-42 FSU, but probably 42-24 NCSU wins. again, with who? irving.

suddenly we win 9 games last year with him. probably what we are gonna do this year btw. i think 10 and 11 wins are possible this year as well.

unc and clemson are the 'trap games' this year. FSU this year will be loud as hell and as big as the vtech game if we come in there 6-1. a very good possibility we do.

here's to finishing this year 10-2 or 11-1. and that's my take. you might disagree, but it adds a lot to a team to have an leader type LB on your team that is the defensive captain that can make plays.

Quote :

'trap games'? I'm not so sure you understand the definition of a 'trap game'. Clemson is in our division and it's likely that this game will go a long way in deciding the Atlantic crown. AND UNC is our rival! I doubt any of our guys will be under prepared for either one of these games.

If you want a trap game, look at WF. They will likely be out of the division race by then and they are sandwiched inbetween Clemson and UNC.

Anyone not get overly excited anytime we play BC?

It might be more exciting if they were ranked, but none of my friends in Boston went to BC, I don't know anyone that cares about BC.. Pack wins 28-7. The lone BC touchdown gives them their only lead of the game 7-0 with 11:54 left in the first quarter.

BC is the bastard child of the ACC.

Their only saving grace is that Boston is a city that most people around here wouldn't normally get to, so it would be a chance to check out Fenway, Cambridge, etc. while catching a Pack game.

I posted this on the VT thread, but noone seems to get up for BC.

The fact that it is a noon game plus the fact it is BC means the crowd is not going to be that into it. I predict a mediocre atmosphere.

I, thirdly, have a wedding to attend during the game as well. Seriously, who gets married on Saturday afternoon during football season? If it wasn't family, I wouldn't be going. To make it worse, it's at 2pm which means watching almost none of the game whatsoever.

I'll be there to tailgate at 7am and pre-game for the wedding (it's a dry wedding on top of all that)

you guys know we are the #2 team in the nation for sacks with 18 (#1 is FSU)? We were #63 by the end of last year. This is great, but granted it is due to the fact that we are blitzing alot, which least us to the feast or famine style of D. We became famished by the end of the game last Saturday. I am interested to see how our defense responds.

I really like RW but he did single handedly lose the game for us against VT. I hope that he gets his mind right. Ever since the bowl game in Alabama, I think that he has had a difficulty making a decision on when to throw away/run/etc. He still has been awsome, but he could be alot better. I am being nit picky, but that is just what I see. I know we have great recievers but I hate when he just lobbs the ball up there for our recievers to make plays. It really bit us in the ass last week.

That being said, I think that we will do some damage to BC. I think our style D works well against BC. I think that our O should answer the call and put up a big number. They need to to get the confidence rolling back pre-VT.

I am moving this weekend, but will be taking time out to sit down and watch this one. Should be interesting. I am also looking foward to Mike Hogwood, Ron Cherry, and cheesy ass ACC pop/rock music. GO PACK!

^we actually quit blitzing toward the end of the game because we couldn't tackle Tyrod. It would've still been a feast on D if our guys could have made a tackle in the 3rd and 4th quarters. there had to have been 8 or so times where someone got an arm around Tyrod in the backfield but couldn't bring him down. killed us (esp on 3rd down)

it's good to know that from here on, we won't face a running qb like that again. I think we play well against the traditional pocket passer w/ the blitz schemes.

BC has major problems at the QB position.

Incumbent Dave Shinskie has been benched.
On Saturday against Notre Dame, Freshman Chase Rettig was promoted to starter, only to go down with an injury in the 1st half.
Mike Marscovetra filled in and played decent, 22-37 for 193 yards, but still threw two interceptions.
RB Montel Harris ran for 111 yards against VT, but only 28 vs. ND.
Boston College is last in the ACC in scoring at 19 ppg.

State wins Saturday, 34-17.

^^^^^^^^^ I disagree. I think RW is partially to blame for the loss. Don't forget we were up 3 with 4 minutes to go and let VT charge down the field. The defense missed multiple tackles on the last drive. VT is a predominately defensive team and to let them put up 41 points is ridiculous even if 14 of those were given to them from the offense IMO.

this is the perfect example of the kind of letdown game we would lose in previous seasons. We always seem to be unable to stop the bleeding after a tough loss. If we can come out and take care of business the way we could/should then that would say a lot about our team and coaching staff. This could also serve as a good game to get up early, and put our foot on their throat to eliminate any hopes for BC to come back.

with that said, I think we will be up 24-10 at halftime, and wind up winning 31-24 in a game that really isnt as close as the score would suggest

I think our run defense is miles ahead of what it was last year (which we proved at GT) and miles ahead of our pass defense, so this game shouldn't be much of a contest. I can only hope that the crowd shows up big time again.
