We're giving up 23.7 points a game this year, we were giving up 31.2 last season. How can you say the defense hasn't improved? They weren't going to magically turn into the 85 Bears in the offseason.

^Our defense had a low points per game average in the beginning of last season as well, then Duke came along and provided all the examples anyone ever needed to tear us apart for the rest of the season. Hope ECU wasn't that game for the 2010 season.

Maybe after 3 games, but definitely not after 7...Do I even need to discuss why giving up almost 50 points to Duke is not at all the same thing as giving up 33 to a high scoring ECU team in a game that went to OT?

I have a feeling we'll look better on defense but I'm not at all convinced we'll have our shit fixed on offense by then. Bible seems to be steadfast in this same type of scheme he has been running forever.

Never handed the ball off to a fullback in 14 years...the fuck?

Btw, this is from the statefansnation thread Dec 06 discussing getting O'Brien

He was 6-1 in bowl games at BC, his only loss was his first. He also won plenty of games against VT, WV, Pitt and ND.

Bible incorporated a bunch of spread elements like read option plays when Wilson became the starter because it suited his skills better. Also I don't know why we need to hand the ball to the fullback, Greene and Haynes are running the ball effectively. I think you could make a strong argument than his gameplan last weekend was pretty shitty, but the two criticisms you leveled strike me as ridiculous.

I can't really articulate what it is about our school but it just feels like there is something that is keeping us down and will continue to keep us down. My hunch is recruiting based on geographical reasons, that is, we miss out on a few atheletes every year that are the difference in being a mid tier team and an elite team. And, with the nature of college sports, if you aren't already a perennial power, it's virtually impossible to become one. And, if you can't become one then you don't get to gain the edge that might pull in those few recruits you could use to jump to the next level.

^ So, you used our current quarterback and schemes designed for him as some sort of rebuttal to the other 11 years of his guidance? The point is there is nothing about our plan that gives anyone pause. It's very "this is what we're going to do, and you have to stop it" and they have been forcing us into many third and longs lately and we're hanging around games because our well above average receivers are bailing us out...that is, when Wilson isn't throwing it to the wrong team.

We don't do any real adjustments, we don't do anything to trip teams up coming out of half.

I think it's pretty damn simple. Pretend you're a top high school recruit. Now ask yourself "Why NC State?"

What is with this sense of entitlement or expectation that so many seem to have? You have to build something at least moderately consistent before you become a top tier team. Nobody becomes a national champion overnight.

Elite college coaches are recruiters who can sell an identity, that usually takes them years to establish, or comes from things like geographic location of the school, historic achievements, etc. We don't really have any of that.

I don't think the parity of the ACC helps either. The perennial SEC powerhouses are just that. The supposed to be perennial powerhouse ACC teams, i.e. Miami & Florida State, are just starting to come back from lackluster spells. Even the bottom feeders of the SEC have benefited greatly from the overall quality of the conference.

A bit less impressive when you consider the fact that BC never won a conference championship and always slid down the bowl pecking order due to the lousy reputation of their fanbase.

Why can't we be like them? Or Oregon? Two schools that weren't traditional powerhouses yet have been more or less in the national discussion in the past 3-5 years.

Did our LB's get any sacks in the ECU game? It seems like we reverted back to our old ways and just sat back and waited for their offense to make plays on us. It felt like Tenuta wasn't there to coach the game.

I hope the coaches meet this week and get us back to what has worked for us so far.

I think our run defense has been pretty solid, but our secondary leaves pretty big gaps in the passing game. If we keep up the blitz we should have a decent shot.

No telling about offense though

And for the record I also fully expect the Noles to put 300 rushing yards on us

"3. North Carolina State quarterback Russell Wilson threw 379 passes before an interception from 2008 into 2009. That’s an NCAA record, and it was, figuratively speaking, a long time ago. Since the streak broke against Wake Forest in the fifth game of last season, Wilson has thrown 20 picks, including nine in the Wolfpack’s past four games. Yes, he has thrown 37 touchdowns over the same 16 games. But his reputation for accuracy has outlived his performance."
