^I thought about going to Dish because I don't watch a ton of TV. But the shows I do like to watch are kinda random...and when I looked up the channels of the programs I do tend to frequent, I found out that Dish doesn't have a lot of those programs on their basic package and Directv does.

Directv is the better overall product and Dish is for cheap people...end of argument. But as long as you get everything you need and are happy with your channel selection, then you made the right decision.

agreed. Like I said, I definitely saw that Direct had a better overall package in general, no doubt there. I just felt that if we didn't plan to take advantage of/actively watch the extras then it wasn't worth paying for them.

I was basically trying to find the cheapest package I could to get ESPN, ESPN2, 1 or 2 other channels in HD (and of course the network channels too) and also be able to get HBO and Dish had that for me. I can totally understand other people preferring direct.

When it comes to sports that aren't on the networks or ESPN/ESPN2 I'll usually end up going out with friends or going to a friend's house anyway so I never really took advantage of some of the extra sports channels I used to get with my cable. AMC is the one channel I will miss from the package we got.

I, too, just got Dish and it will be significantly cheaper than what the evil empire (TWC) was charging and I'll get NFL/NHL Network, 2 channels I will watch the shit out of that I didn't have with my TWC package. It also will include Big 10 Network. Sunday Ticket is pretty expensive anyway and I don't mind going to a bar to watch NFL.

One of my goals in life is to make enough money to where I don't care about ordering every single Sports and Entertainment package available on satellite.

One day...

Just got DirecTV installed at my new house. Free NFL Sunday Ticket for new subscribers.

New 55" LED to go with it.

Fuck. Yes.

There is no comparison with cable, in any way.

Im looking to switch to DirecTV from Dish (still cant figure out how Dish is cheaper) but I have a couple of questions on how the HD RSNs are setup on DirecTV (assuming you do not have the sports pack). I think you get FS South in HD fulltime (except for out of market pro games), and FS Carolinas only when there is an HD broadcast, is that correct? Do HD broadcasts include pre and postgame shows? When Dish actually provides the HD broadcast of a Hurricanes game, they usually skip the pregame show, and randomly end the feed sometime during the postgame (and of course theres the Brind'Amour jersey retirement in SD only, followed by the HD game, which was completely ridiculous, and of course dropping the feed during overtime of Game 7 of the 2009 Canes-Bruins series...yeah, Dish isnt where to go for sports).

Also, there were a bunch of regional ACC games last year on FSN that were produced and framed in 16:9 SD. On Dish, all we got was a centercut SD broadcast, which was terrible to watch when the PG is dribbling the ball off camera. Do these show up on DirecTV on the FSN HD channel, or are they not picked up since they technically arent HD?

Basically, I know with TWC Ill get everybit of HD (or quasi-HD) provided by my RSN since its a constant feed, and I want to make sure I wont miss anything here with DirecTV.

^I wish they had both of those as well, but I can download Doctor Who and The Walking Dead...I cant download every State game in 720p.
