Depends. I'm quite apathetic about the conflicts between tribes in Africa. Not because I don't think what's going on is horrible, but because I think it's simply beyond our power to correct, and spending resources there is likely to at best not help the situation. Does that make me complicit in the murders occurring?11/4/2010 3:44:08 PM |

No but not giving a fuck that the entire Iraq war was a "clever" (by American standards) way to funnel money to arms dealers and the aristocracy does
Although I'm complicit too because I pay income taxes

Maybe I missed it, but from what I've seen Ellmers hasn't even MENTIONED any fiscal or economic policies the she might support/oppose at all! She is basically running on the tea-party social agenda.
On her very own campaign website she has links for every social issue listed, but has NOTHING in terms of jobs or the economy besides a very broad sentence or two.
Quote : | "Economy – Cut taxes. Cut government spending. Get government out of the way and let the free enterprise system work." |
This is as in depth as she gets when it comes to the economy aside from screaming cut taxes. Yet she has a ten minute interview and campaign ads dedicated to a fucking Mosque 600 miles away!

Can someone explain to me why there isn't a runoff if the leading candidate didn't get 50%+1 of the vote? 11/18/2010 4:04:23 PM |

I think its generally first past the post as the default unless state law calls for run offs, which I guess isn't the case for NC?
The only rule for NC I know of is under 1% lets you call for a recount. 11/18/2010 10:18:56 PM |

The recount is over. She won. And once the GOP redistricts the area before the next election Ellmer's is likely to have a long term career representing Raleigh & the rest of district 2.11/19/2010 3:40:45 PM |

Because the vast majority of people who voted for her had no idea what they were voting for.
Seriously, listen to her talk. She is dumb beyond all belief. I wouldn't trust her to lead me out of a paper bag, let alone into a state of economic growth.

She says the people of district 2 are good, hard-working Christian people.
Ignoring the fact that I know plenty of Jewish families in east Raleigh, Garner, Dunn, and the Fort Bragg/outer Fayetteville areas, I still have trouble calling any section of D2 off of the military base and the farms "hard working"

Quote : | "Muslims want to speak to Ellmers
The election of tea party favorite Renee Ellmers to Congress in November was a loss for Democrats and incumbent Bob Etheridge. But some area Muslims say it's more like a sharp blow for them.
The winner of North Carolina's 2nd Congressional District seat offended many Muslims with a TV campaign ad that claimed that a planned Muslim community center near ground zero in New York City was a "victory mosque," possibly funded by terrorists.
Dismayed by the ad, individuals and groups within the Triangle's Muslim community say they are interested in pursuing a truce with Ellmers. They have been trying to reach out to her since the ad first aired in late September.
"I've called her office three times," said Khalilah Sabra, executive director of the state chapter of the Muslim American Society's immigrant justice project. "We'd like to know where she stands and what her intentions are with regard to the Muslim community."
Ellmers has not responded so far. She also did not return phone calls and e-mail requests for an interview for this story." |

Not to speak for him or anything, but it doesn't seem too unreasonable to still care about your old home region even after you move away. And it might be different if she was just a state congressperson, but she's in a position to guide national policy in the US Congress. 12/16/2010 1:29:32 PM |

She now has a voice on the national level. I have no doubts that this woman will be voting by personal view and not by what North Carolinians want, and therefor will not be representing the state. Yet at the same time, her words will be seen as a reflection upon the state. Its a lose-lose.12/18/2010 10:05:04 AM |

Quote : | "House freshman throws a party – and GOP cringes
With Republican leaders anxious to set an austere tone for their ascendance into the House majority this week, the lavish fundraiser scheduled for Tuesday night at a trendy Washington hotel to benefit a dozen GOP freshmen is not exactly the populist image leaders are anxious to project.
House Speaker-elect John Boehner, whose name was featured on the invitation, is nonetheless skipping the event at the W Hotel, where lobbyists, political action committee managers and others paying the $2,500 ticket price will be treated to a performance by country music star LeAnn Rimes (a $50,000 package includes a block of eight tickets and a “VIP suite” at the W)." |
Quote : | "Among the Republicans who are members of America's New Majority and stand to benefit from the Rimes event are Scott Desjarlais of Tennessee, Steve Southerland of Florida and Renee Ellmers of North Carolina — all of whom had tea party support and signed the Contract From America — a set of tea party principles that pledges fealty to the Constitution and limited government.
Ellmers blasted her Democratic opponent Rep. Bob Etheridge for accepting money from “Washington special interests and political action committees,” though FEC filings show she accepted $33,000 from PACs." |
Nice to see she's off to a good start. You know if the guy (Boehner) who passed out lobbyist checks on the House floor finds this event to be too entangled with lobbyists to attend, then it must be bad. 1/4/2011 6:49:28 PM |

no, the govt shouldnt be endorsing any religion, period.
The only time I agree with the gov't getting involved is when terrorists try to put a victory flag mosque right next to the scene of their biggest victory.
My point was who gives a fuck what an irrelevant congresswoman thinks about an irrelevant issue.
The country is bankrupt and we're dangerously close to falling apart in the next few years. People are starving and over HALF of the American workforce doesn't have full-time employment.
Let's think about whats important here. She doesnt like muslims? So fucking what. I don't like turnip greens, where's the thread about that. 1/26/2011 12:21:40 AM |
