Quote :
"Nate Irving is one of the most inspirational players ever to wear an NC State football uniform thanks to his courageous comeback from a near-fatal car accident before his senior year.

Wednesday, the 2010 Brian Piccolo Award winner officially gained "legend" status when he was chosen to represent the Wolfpack at the ACC's annual Night of Legends celebration in Charlotte. The event will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, the night before the league's championship football game at Bank of America Stadium.

Each of the ACC's 14 football-playing members will have a "legend" honored.

Irving earned his selection with both his play on the field and the tenacity with which he approached his rehab while away from it.

Despite missing the entire 2009 season with multiple injuries, Irving returned to earn first-team All-America honors in 2010 while leading State with 97 tackles. He set an NCAA record with eight tackles for loss in a win against Wake Forest on his way to sharing the ACC's award for Most Courageous Player with Boston College's Brian Herlich.

Irving finished his college career with 39.5 tackles for loss in 34 games. He went on to play five seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts.

Joining Irving in this year's "Legends" class are Boston College's Joe Nash, Clemson's Brian Dawkins, Duke's Chris Port, Florida State's Ron Sellers, Georgia Tech's Derrick Morgan, Louisville's Deion Branch, Miami's Bernie Kosar, North Carolina's Julius Peppers, NC State's Nate Irving, Pitt's Rickey Jackson, Syracuse's Joe Morris, Virginia's Don Majkowski, Virginia Tech's DeAngelo Hall and Wake Forest's Bob McCeary.
