UPS, 3rd shift i think 10:30 to 3am or so, pink belt.
Was in the summer, kept getting stuck on drop floor trucks, with no working fans that were full of 120 degree air.
Ohh, and this was back when they shipped CRT monitors.
My manager wasn't really a douche, but he kept throwing me lots of salts, and I kept getting stuck on the truck where the retard unloaders threw 8 foot awnings on the belt, which would invariably jam at the top of the chute.
It was frustrating, I wasnt hitting my 300 box an hour goal (Yay Monitors, Tire Weights, and Awnings), I had been about knocked unconscious when one of the drop bed panels came loose and smacked me in the head the week prior. And i had no social life and summer school sucked. I was working one night he asked if anyone wanted to leave early, I said I would, then thought for a moment, and said I don't think ill be back. 2/17/2011 11:14:24 AM |

^^ugh i worked at UPS back in the day... i was quickly promoted to pick off though, which wasn't as bad. I was bottom pick off on yellow belt (twilight shift).
I hated my supervisor though... it was some douchebag high school kid (I have no idea how he was promoted to supervisor) who loved throwing in salts... when i was working the richmond center truck he would throw in richmond hub packages (or vice versa) which often had very similar zips... i'd always catch them, but because i worked fairly quickly, he wouldn't be able to get in the truck before i threw the package into the correct truck... so he would come in, start chit chatting me up waiting for me to fuck up and scan the bad package... one time he started tearing down my wall because he was sure i scanned a bad package... i asked him what the hell he was doing and told him i threw the package out... he didn't believe me and wasted 3-4 minutes looking for it. (3-4 minutes during a rush no less). I told his ass he was going to stay in the truck and fix my wall before he went anywhere. words.

I was working at the Linens n' Things in Crossroads when the company announced that they were declaring bankruptcy and closing the stores, back in spring 2008 I think. Anybody who's worked retail during a store closing knows how much it sucks: the store looked like shit every night, customers were bigger assholes than normal, and management's blood pressure was going through the roof. The GM had been a giant bitch to me before this, insulting my work ethic in front of other associates and managers. During the closing sale mess, another ass-kissing employee told the GM that I had been bitching about the store in the comments of a local news story. I figure she was the one who had done it and had just signed my name to it. Not that I wouldn't have done it if I knew about the story/comments.
I got chewed out by one of the managers that actually got along with, which was a big surprise. Since this was during the end of the semester, I figured that I didn't need the stress, so I just didn't show up the next time I was scheduled. They never called me. I kinda wish I'd used some profanity on the way out, so I would have a more impressive story. 2/20/2011 1:11:40 AM |

I have a few times.
1) one of the managers hired her friend, even though we had too many people already, and my hours got eaten into. I found a new job and bounced.
2) I worked a best buy and came in a few times on my day off when they needed people. One day I came in to work register until 6(not my job) and had some shit to do at 7. when 6 came the manager wouldn't come count down my register. I had to page her over the period of an hour and a half before she came to me. then it had been so long I had to have her clock me out. it took another 30 minutes to get her to do this for me. at this point it was 7:45 and I missed the dinner scheduled with my friend from out of town. so i just stopped going in. they called me for the next 3 shifts to get me to show up.
3) the others were part time jobs, but there was this one full time job that i hated. I really couldn't stand it. So I immediately found a new job and then worked the next two weeks and never said a work.
I got a phone call from them, and they asked what could they do to get me back. 2/21/2011 4:11:20 PM |

I was the manager of a tanning salon (I started off as Assistant Manager and got my own store within 3 months). The district manager didn't like me and blatantly played favorites - there were 2 managers who could do nothing wrong because they kissed her ass and did everything she said. I, on the other hand, had a different approach to things - and while I did take the DM's suggestions - I did things with my own flair. My store was always #1 or 2 in the district and in the top 25% of the company. I busted my ass and worked 50+ hours a week (even though I was salary and didn't get overtime). If someone called out, got sick, etc - I was there to cover it. If something broke, I was there to fix it or get the right people there for it to get fixed. If something happened at the store, I was there. The store had great numbers and all the employees loved me - I even had girls ask to transfer to my store because they heard how awesome it was. Then when the owners of our franchise and the owners of the company toured all the stores, they raved about ME.
But I still got in trouble nearly every day (from the DM) for the dumbest things. My performance review literally said I was "too creative" and "had too much fun" at work. The DM would call with a laundry list of things that I needed to do better and would tear me apart. I usually ended up crying in my office at least once a week. I finally got fed up and had a meeting with her. I told her that I know she didn't like me and that she played favorites and I was tired of being treated so poorly. We discussed options (I wanted to quit but she said "you're a big asset and the company doesn't want to lose you"), so we came to the agreement that I would be the Assistant Manager at another store, and my pay would only change slightly (salary --> hourly, with a max of 40 hours).
I get to this new store - run by one of her favorites - and it was a lot less stressful because I no longer had to deal with the DM. But the Manager there didn't do ANYTHING. Since I had just done that job (and had the training manuals memorized), I could see all the things she wasn't doing (paper work, store upkeep, hiring, training, etc). If I hadn't of done those things when I was a manager, I would've been written up and yelled at. But whatever, I no longer had to deal with the DM, I was getting paid well, working less hours, and I was happier. Then I started to get shit on. Again.
I started getting scheduled out of my availability because the Manager was getting married, going on a honeymoon, and needed 3 weeks off. She also needed a day off to get her nails done. Then another day off to get her hair done. I was expected to work because we didn't have enough staff to cover all the shifts. We also make commission, and I was getting short changed. When I asked the Manager, she came up with some bullshit and basically told me I wouldn't get some money I was owed because of a glitch in the system. So I asked what she was personally going to do to compensate me, and I just got a blank stare. Then I got sick at work (puking). When stuff like that happened when I was the Manager, it was my responsibility to cover it if no one else could. Well no one else could cover my shift, so I called the Manager. She couldn't cover it either because SHE WAS DRUNK. That was it. The convo went something like this: me: isn't this part of YOUR JOB? her: I've been drinking and we're about to go to a wine tasting in Chapel Hill so I can't get there me: wow. don't you think that's irresponsible? considering I know for a fact that all managers must sign a contract stating that they would be available during all operating hours if an emergency were to arise her: well I've had these plans so just go home and come back at 10:30pm to close the store me: no. that's YOUR job and I QUIT.
Then I hung up, put my keys in the safe, and walked out.] 4/16/2011 10:53:06 AM |

I've had a lot of shitty jobs over the years, but the worst I ever had was when I was 16 working at bagel shop- mostly to pay my car insurance and have extra spending money on clothes, food, etc. I made $5.15 an hour, but I had to either wake up and be there at 4:45 on weekend mornings to deal with an insane rush of annoyingly perky assholes who wanted 20 kinds of bagels, sliced and smeared with 10 kinds of cream cheese for 8 hours or I would have stay and close down the place at 11pm on a weeknight- mopping the disgusting floors covered with bagel seeds, scrubbing shit stained toilets, emptying garbage cans filled with moldy bagels and cream cheese, you name it... The retarded managers kept saying that the longer I stuck with it, I could work my way up to the register by taking a test and that I could make a whopping 50 cents more an hour. They said in two months I could become a baker and earn $7 an hour to work with the dough and ovens and shit- like that would have been any better...
Every time I punched in, I wanted to either throw up or kill myself. I knew the job was horrible from day one, and I went out for interviews as often as I could. When I finally found a job as a busboy/host at a restaurant, I wanted to never show up again at 4:45 on a Saturday, but my parents said I shouldn't quit until I finished training and had paperwork signed at my new job. Once I did, they told me to do the right thing and give two weeks notice. As I started the last shift I ever worked there, the owner came up to me and chastised me for not being in an eager mood to be there. He said I should be grateful to even have a job and that he took a huge risk to hire me- mind you this was back in 2001 when the economy was booming and the motherfucker drove a brand new Mercedes. I tried to bite my tongue and make it through the shift, but he was on my ass about every little thing. Finally, when he was bitching about the way I smeared the cream cheese on a bagel, I told him that I found another job and that I wouldn't be working there anymore. He looked at me, startled beyond belief, and asked that at the very least I could finish the rest of my scheduled shifts since he'd gone through the agony of hiring and training me. I looked him straight in the eye and said, "You know, my parents told me that the decent thing would be to give you my two weeks notice at the end of my shift. But I really hate it here. This is worse than slavery and I don't think I can even finish my shift. In fact, I think I'll go punch out now while it's not busy..." I took off my hat, name tag, and apron and handed it to him and walked out the door. The dude was STEAMING mad. At the time, I thought I would never have to set foot again in that hellhole, but I was wrong.
Because I was broke and needed what little money had been on my paycheck, I came in a few days later asking to pick up my check. Ordinarily, I would have just had them mail it to me, but I needed the $90 or whatever, so I swallowed my pride and showed up on payday. Luckily, the owner wasn't there, but this dickhead manager was. He made me wait outside the office for a good 20 mins while he chatted on the phone and dicked around in the office. Finally, I knocked on the door, which was slightly ajar, but he slammed it shut, sliding my paycheck under the door and onto the filthy seed-covered floor. I never went back after that though!

I worked at the Dominos Pizza near Pleasant Valley for 5.5 hours total.
I came in three times.
The first I was training/orientation, rode along with a driver who had worked there two years and she told me about all the times they had been robbed. I also realized I was the only driver that had an SUV...everyone else had a Honda or something. I was gonna spend $rape on gas.
The second time I went the manager was not there, I did not know who was who (as far as being in charge) but the kids there told me that they had too many drivers that night and I did not need to work. I went home.
The third time the same thing happened..."its slow tonight"/"we already have too many drivers working"/"take the night off".
The fourth time I was supposed to work was after I had gone to Orlando Fl and back driving 12 hours each way, the first night I spent down there I got blackout drunk, passed out on a mechanical bull, when I fell off ripped the crotch out of my pants, still did not so much as get a second look by the cops. (FL is nuts) Drove back towing my friends car on a tow dolly (with a blown motor) leaving at 2 am the day after that, drank enough red bull to cause a stroke on the way back just to stay awake.
Needless to say I did not want to close at the pizza place that night, I got in Raleigh mid afternoon and had not slept for days, was crashing from lack of sleep, hangover, dehydration, etc......so I called to call out of work sick (I really felt sick). The manager starts bitching that I had worked there a week and had only worked one shift....mind you I showed up for all the other scheduled shifts and was sent home by the fuckhead greedy drivers that did not want me cutting in to their tips, there was no manager there any of those times. Sounded legit to me since the people sending me home had keys to the fucking building. My other concern was if 2/3 of the time I come in I get sent home, how the hell do you expect me to make working there a priority?
She proceeds to tell me since I missed all those days I had an attendance problem and if I did not come in that night I no longer had a job there.......I said "thats fine, thanks" (she sounded surprised), hung up with her and passed out for like full 24 hours.
I never bothered checking on a paycheck, thought nothing of it until January when I received a W-2 for $30.25. I then realized those fuckers had cut me a check I never got. I called up there looking for it twice and both times they were gonna check on it and never called back. I think that bitch threw my check away cuz she damn sure never mailed it and had the right address. 6/22/2011 10:36:14 PM |

What does this Charles guy look like at Best Buy?
I was at best buy and there was a tall African-American guy that I believe was a manager and he was telling some guy about why he needed the 100 dollar monster HDMI cable. The guy picked it up like he was going to get it based on his advice and I interrupted and told him to get a 5 dollar one from mono price and it would be the same. He then proceeded to tell me about how the signal degradation and why it needed to be good throughout to prevent loss of quality of the signal.
I then told the guy I graduated in electrical engineering and that he was full of shit and shouldn't try to apply his GED to stuff he doesn't know about . He didn't seem very happy and had I not walked away at that point I got the feeling he wanted to "throw" me out of his store.
The customer guy left if there and said he was going somewhere else

A couple months ago I applied for a job. They didn't give it to me but called me back 2 days later frantically seaching for someone for a shittier position. I didn't have a job but was literally walking into an interview when they called me. I let them know that because I was pretty sure I was going to the job I was interviewing for that day (I did). Anyways I told them "Yeah i'll work there since you guys need help with x and y and I already know the majority of how to do that- HOWEVER there is a good chance I could have a way better job offer in 2 weeks"
So I started and it was pretty chill. A week later I was doing shitty ass manual labor and mixing potting. Fuck that. I decided to skip work and go to virginia for a metal show with my home boyz. I was going to come back the next day but instead I just stayed in VA for a couple days drinking and decided i'd never go back because I'd probably get that other job.
Got it.

I wanted to, but the economy was just starting the financial collapse, and jobs were tightening up. So, I never did. My boss was a micromanager, a prick, and the least friendly Canadian I've ever met.
So I complained about not having enough projects, and worrying about the companys future one day. Saying I loved the work I was doing (true), but I didn't have enough of it (also true).
After the weekend, I got fired. He said they were letting me go, then said that he had some things to discuss, but would give me an opportunity to voice my concerns after... He said his piece, about how I was a terrible employee, then gave me my opportunity... I leaned back in the conference room chair, put my feet up on another chair, and said "you know i think a lot of people would be either shocked, upset, angry or whatever... But really i'm relieved. I get the rest of the day off, and i dont have to wake up and come work for you ever again."
It felt good. I would have liked to have done that as a resignation, but I got the last laugh as the unemployment office sided with me, and called their reasoning weak at best, and not reasonable. They were pretty pissed. 3/22/2013 8:25:22 PM |

Not so much as walked out of one, more like didn't show up for a shift. I was working a second job as a waiter at a country club. Had worked there for most of a year just about every weekend and a a couple of weekday nights. Hell I even dressed up as the Easter Bunny for their annual Easter Egg Hunt. Asked to have a weekend off way in advance to go to Myrtle for the Memorial Day bike weekend. Weekend came up and I was on the schedule for that Sunday night. Reminded him I had it off before he made the schedule, told him again when it came out, and finally let him know I might not make it back for that shift because of my plans that he knew of and okay'd ahead of time.
I didn't make it back. Came in the next evening after working my other job. We talked, he threaten to fire me for missing a shift, and mind you it's the only shift I've ever missed. I told him that's okay he didn't have to worry about it and politely let him know I quit and thank you for the opportunity.
Only regret was not fucking the new beer cart girl they hired for the spring and summer season. I did get to see a local newscaster get plastered during a silent auction and go in to do the news later on that night. We had a laugh at watching her slur through the news. Other, and best highlight, was watching Rick Barnes and Dean Smith chewed out by Swofford. 3/22/2013 10:46:59 PM |
