We just always match up well with these guys and VTech. If this were say at Clemson, who is about the same level, we would probably have no chance.

a team that focuses most of its efforst on D, at the expense of offense is a good matchup for us...low scoring and not so pretty. they also play D inside out, which is to say they focus on not allowing scoring in the paint which allows alot of open looks from 3. we need to shoot over 35% from 3 and win the rebounding battle to win.

needless to say, wood needs to have a big game. In both meetings last year (both W's), he was our leading scorer, with a career high in the first, i think.

Well I nailed it, we're 7 point underdogs.

I think we've really got a shot though.

Keys to the game:

1) Turnovers. FSU turns the ball over non-stop, they are one of the worst in the NATION at committing turnovers (#310 yikes). We on the other hand never force turnovers. So this is one of those things where they may commit 18 turnovers b/c they love throwing the ball out of bounds, or we might put such little pressure on them they only commit 10 and get an extra 10 possessions they aren't accustomed to having. This projects as a low scoring tight game, a few key turnovers down the stretch could easily sway the outcome.

2) Scoring. FSU defense swallowed Duke alive. I believe Tracy can still get "easy" baskets down low (easy for him, not for an average post player) against FSU if they play him straight up. However, if they double team or collapse on him, they are athletic and long enough to recover without giving up too many open looks. We're a terrible 3pt shooting team aside from Wood (particularly when Harrow is playing over Javi). So how do we score if Tracy gets harrassed? I think it's gotta be Howell & Leslie who have the size and athleticism to compete against FSU.

3) Free throws killed us in the BC game. Getting to the line 11 times and only hitting 5 of them is unacceptable. We need to get free throw attempts against FSU. They play super aggressive and are prone to committing dumb fouls. We have to take advantage of this, period. If we allow them to block 8+ shots and walk away with less than 18 FTA's we are going to lose. This is on our guards to create contact and our post players to take it up strong.

4) Rebounding. FSU is a really strong rebounding team so the advantage we've had in nearly every game the past month will be neutralized. We have to hold our own on the glass or we literally have no shot in this game.


Again I think we're a 2:1 underdog. But we're better than FSU thinks and if they have a hangover from the Duke win we can steal one today.
