If they are from some of the rural areas, yes. If they are from the DC or Baltimore area, not a chance.

Regarding Texas, people from there are not "southerners". They are Texans, which is quite a bit different.

Maryland fought for the Union.

Don't let them try and forget that fact.

^ /end thread.

And No, people from Maryland are definitely not southern. And at the rate that northerners are infiltrating North Carolina, we won't be southern for much longer.

Maryland State Song:

Quote :
" The despot's heel is on thy shore,
Maryland!*
His torch is at thy temple door,
Maryland!
Avenge the patriotic gore
That flecked the streets of Baltimore,
And be the battle queen of yore,
Maryland! My Maryland! "

FWIW the despot is Abraham Lincoln and the patriotic gore of Baltimore is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_riot_of_1861

Lincoln actually had to arrest large portions of the Maryland legislature in order to stave off the threat.

I think the grits line is a more accurate representation of what still is the south:

Though, of course, there is a trend towards homogenization of the US and the world, so . . .

I like the grits line, this map is similar

Red - True South; Yellow - Southern; Green - Texan

ask someone from SC if Marylanders are "southerners."

Most of them think NC is a bit too far north.

maryland is all jews and blacks.

blacks can be southerners but jews certainly can not be.

so of course not, no one classifies maryland as southern.
