small itb-type home. 3 bedrooms, updated kitchen and open floor plan. gray or white painted brick, black shutters. small yard, stone fire pit and plenty of patio space in the back.

most of the places in downtown charleston fit the bill for me. I'd love a wrap-around porch on all levels, an open layout, BIG kitchen, nice master suite (including a sitting area, soaking tub, waterfall shower). These are just things I want though. I don't really know what I would consider the "ideal" home.

I will need a WC in the master bathroom. I want to be able to shit while she brushes her teeth and vice versa, without getting a little too comfortable for either of our tastes.

I love my location and the style of my house (downtown charleston and old charleston-style with the side porches)...and although it's perfect for me now, I'd just like a bigger one in the future.

I'm pushing it, but in addition to the perfect number of bedrooms and baths (3 bed/2 bath with one kid...4 bed/3 bath with 2 kids), decent sized kitchen, living, and dining room....I would like a small office, a theater room (6-10 recliners with a giant big screen/projection screen) and a game room (pool table, darts, two tvs for either different games being played or one with a game on and the other hooked up to a gaming system, and nc state memorbilia everywhere). Also need to be a decent bar/wet bar somewhere. Could be in the living/dining room or possibly the game room.

I feel like that's a lot to ask and I'll have to get on it to be able to afford something like that in downtown Charleston any time soon. But it is doable. I feel like I'll end up with something in between what I have now (will have to get something else if I have more than one kid) and what my "ideal" home is.

I also want a smaller version of those game rooms you see on Cribs with a pool table, several flat screens, and a bunch of 90's arcade machines like NBA JAM, Mortal Kombat and Revolution X. Have one wall be State stuff, one Panthers, one Mets, and one other cool stuff like huge posters of Tiger at the Masters or Tyson biting Evander.

I miss having this.

If I had the money I would buy one of those foreclosed craftsmen houses downtown and renovate to my tastes. But alas I have no monies right now.

Since that one is owned by the state of NC and also has a large office building in its backyard...something along those lines. Definitely an old/historic home, prefer victorian (ideally second empire) but I'm open to other styles. Original interior detail (I LOVE pocket doors) but with a modern kitchen--concrete or stone counters, gas stove, island, nice cabinets. Plus an updated bath in the master suite with jetted tub/stand shower/dual sinks/separate WC. Wraparound porch, large rear deck. Detached 3-car garage would be ideal, but I could trade that and lot size for it being walking distance to a downtown or a shopping/dining district.

my dream home is a huge shop with an apartment up top. well-insulated with wood heat. shop would need at least 3 bays and a lift. it'd have a large dedicated gun/archery/reloading bench, a dedicated fishing and tackle craft bench. a nice, large shelter for tractor and implements, boats, etc. would need to be in the sticks with no neighbors for at least a half mile. needs to have at least a hundred acres of woods/farmland for hunting. pond or river access would be nice.

^^ that is gorgeous. there are a lot of pretty old victorian homes around where my grandparents live in upstate new york, but you could not fucking pay me to live in upstate new york.

^That's the Heck-Andrews house, built in 1870. It's actually in downtown Raleigh at the corner of Blount and North streets...one of the best Second Empire structures in the city. Take a ride by it sometime--it's even more beautiful in person, and there are a lot of other gorgeous historic homes on that stretch of Blount, plus a few streets away in Oakwood. Not open to the public though (I don't know if they've ever finished the restoration of the interior.)

I always liked this place, it's right above a little diner right in the middle of downtown.

Something like this would be cool too:

This was my dream home growing up. I was really happy when they decided to renovate it

My ideal home is one I designed in high school. I'd probably make a few changes to it now, but the design is pretty much complete.

Mine too; ever since I first saw it on a school trip to Raleigh in 1989. Even in bad shape it was beautiful, but it's absolutely stunning now.

There was that house on sale a few years back of a modern house built into the entrance of a cave with 2-3k sq ft for the living space and 15k+ sq ft of cave behind it.
