A Dingo ferret ate my baby

1) It is not safe to have a kid under 2 around ANY animal without supervision, especially at the age of 4 months, and especially an animal with big sharp incisors they just acquired recently

2) It would take time to eat 7 fingers, at least a couple of minutes. How come the child cried so late? (I am sure the parents ignored a minute or two of crying, but they can't admit that, can they?) And I can't even begin to imagine how painful it would be for a 4 month old... poor thing.

3) If they didn't want to cage the animal so it can freely roam around at night out of concern for the animal, how about a bit of concern for their infant by closing the door to the baby's room.

4) A lot of parents seem to put their infants to sleep in a separate room all alone, and I can't understand that. Just seems so convenient to have the baby sleep in the same room.

5) I hope they get punished somehow. I don't want to say that the child should be taken away... that's too harsh. Fining them or jailing them would hurt the baby as well. I don't know, thousands of hours of community service perhaps.

I've never known anyone who wasn't awkward to own a ferret.

Also, I've never met a ferret that didn't smell like shit.

a lot of people who have ferrets dont know shit about them.
i feel bad for the baby but worse for the poor ferret.
these parents seem irresponsible if they dont even have the right permits.
...ferrets dont smell like shit of taken care of properly

Haha, seriously? The ferret ate a baby's fucking fingers. Was that like...not the ferret's fault?

no i think it was the parent's fault. how can an animal really be at fault for animal instincts?

but i still feel worse for the baby than the ferret

but it appears that neither are (or were, RIP ferret) living in a responsible environment being adequately cared for

let's play the blame game

I LOVE YOU

umm, you can't blame a semi-wild animal for eating the baby's fingers, or even the baby's eyes if it had done that.

having said that, i do feel bad for the ferret (because it harmed a human and had to be killed), but i feel infinitely worse for the baby. the baby was completely defenseless and the least powerful of all the 4 parties at play, and is also the one who will be affected the most and the longest because of the cruelly negligent incident.

What if you substituted "human" for "animal" in that sentence? Any conscious, living being is partially or wholly responsible for their actions - instinct isn't really an "excuse." The father was completely justified in killing the animal on the spot, I would say. I don't feel bad for the ferret, it shouldn't have started chewing the flesh of a person. Clearly, though, the parents are at fault for even allowing those circumstances - they now have a (mostly) fingerless child as a reward, and punishing the parents isn't likely to net any benefit to the child.

Jesus, I was waiting for someone to come out with this shit.

Fuck the ferret. No, it didn't do anything "wrong"...it's an animal and did what animals do. No, cruelty to animals isn't cool...

but I would have killed the ferret on the spot, too, and I find it staggering that anyone gives a shit about what happened to the ferret in this situation, relative to the little baby with 7 of his fingers eaten.

because ferrets are rational beings.

[Edited on February 7, 2011 at 7:02 PM. Reason : i would kill the ferret too, but i also wouldn't leave it alone with a baby. except baby hitler.]

I guess I should revise my statement and say any person keeping an animal captive bears responsibility for what that animal does, since the animal certainly wasn't consenting. With that said, I still would have killed it, and the baby was absolutely defenseless, so I still feel much worse for it.

Darth Vader fell into a volcano, but thanks to the breathing-machine which was installed in his chest, he was able to go on and have a long and productive career of wickedness

so maybe this baby could be equipped with robotic hands, which will enable him to fulfill some catastrophically evil destiny

let's hope so

Pretty sure he slid into a lava flow on a volcano PLANET...

...therefore he fell into a volcano.

Try again

Darth Vader did not fall into a lava flow, he was fighting near the lava flow and ended up burning because he was in close proximity. He also lost his two legs and had a previous wound with a lost hand and wrist. Why didnt he just randomly burst into flames when he was fighting Obi-wan and jumping around the lava flow then is beyond me.

It was because of the smell of breast milk. Ferrets go NUTSO for human breast milk.

firstly, ferret's aren't rodents. We understand that you wouldn't want them as pets, but the fact is they do make good pets (when people take care of them and the owners are responsible).

secondly, I don't think any one is saying "aw, who cares about the kid- there was cute animal involved!" I think everyone would say the kid got it worst, and was the defenseless one here. And everyone would agree the ferret would need to be at least relocated if not put down (not an issue here). What I am trying to instill here is that the owners/parents were negligent and the child and the pet both suffered for it. Sucks for everyone is involved, and I feel really bad for the kid- but to say that we can't feel bad for the ferret as well is moronic (and I agree, the kid was the most helpless and hurt thing here)

Incorrect son.

Many people believe he didn't become Darth Vader until he got his suit, but the Emperor made it clear that Anakin becomes Darth Vader as soon as he becomes his apprentice.

Its still referring to the same person, but at different periods of their lifetimes. I would still think that if we were talking about the creation of Darth Vadar, one would take in the references of him being Anakin Skywalker and how he got to that point to change identity.
