I don't think they would argue that this was anything other than revenge.

1. Research Anonymous. 2. Brag about your insider knowledge to drum up publicity. 3. ... 4. Profit!
If he pulled this type of thing with the mob or a gang they would have found his body floating in a river, so he should probably count his blessings and learn a lesson from it. Had his own intentions been pure he would have completed his work, transferred what he had learned to the FBI, and nobody would know who he is. His intention was to gain fame and money off Anonymous' name and it backfired.
