after filling up at a BP today I'm confused how this could happen. The diesel pump was clearly labeled, it was the only pump with 2 handles, and you would have to press a "diesel" button to operate it. Also, the handle was a different color.
However, I'm sorry you had to drop all that cash. So much for emergency fund 2/28/2011 9:26:28 PM |

the pump i filled up at had a black, silver, gold, and green.
they have others with one green (that you choose the gas grade) and one black (diesel)
it was stupid of me i already admitted that. i was just saying i am not the only person its happened to at BP.
i filled up at shell today and read the pump 3 times before pulling the trigger 2/28/2011 10:14:52 PM |

would gasoline damage a diesel engine? I thought it's the other way around that you should be worried about. 2/28/2011 10:48:44 PM |

wikipedia is your friend...
Gasoline is used in spark ignition engines, diesel is used in compression ignition engines... so the air/fuel ratios and general engine tuning are way different. note also that diesel injection pumps rely on the lubricity of the diesel fuel to lubricate the internals - so if you would try to run gas the pumps will fail3/1/2011 9:39:14 AM |
