Seems like I can circle him? Do you lock on to them or not. Can you backstab with an axe?

To kill him, I:

Cleared a large area so I could maneuver freely.
Gave him enough room to swing.
Chucked fireballs.

The circling/backstab method works too. I've also heard people say his first or second swing is easy to parry.... I haven't tried that yet..

I dual wield 2 plus 5 scimitars and dodge a lot, though if i'm getting really overpowered I use the Knights shield and a plus 5 scimitar

The dual wielding is fun but its difficult to take on more than 3 enemies especially if they group together and block

Parrying I've found difficult overall but i'm practicing and getting better, it seems like sometimes if you don't do it perfectly it still lessens the damage and allows you to recover better from the blow.

^Since you've been through Sen's Fortress, are you still using the lightning spear? If so, how does it hold up at SL61? Damage, upgrade path, etc.

It is probably the weapon you will be using for the rest of most of the game. I've been reading a lot about people's opinions on weapons and it sounds like lightning weapons are the best until you reach a very high soul level. The scaling on weapons is just not nearly as good as it was in Demon's Souls so a B rating in strength on an axe isn't going to overtake a good lightning weapon for a while. I don't even think there are any S rated scaling weapons. I made a sword from Quelaag's soul (Quelaag Fury Sword) and I am using that right now. I can't even figure out why it does more damage than the lightning spear because that stats don't add up to more ... strange. I am also in the process of making a lighting based curved sword because I hear those are good.

Oh and the spear does about 400 damage (200 physical, 200 lightning) at +3. You can upgrade lightning weapons to +5 pretty easily. Here is a chart for the upgrade paths.

I started off in Way of White and I guess that helped me co-op with people. I tried Princess Guard but it gave me nothing so I moved on to Warrior of Sunlight. I really enjoy co-op play so all these assist in that. I appear as a gold phantom while in Warrior of Sunlight. I'm thinking about upgrading my faith so I can use the miracles it gives me. I can also see trying to do Chaos Servant to get more fire spells and Gravelord sounds fun. This game makes me so indecisive.

^^^^^I think there's a bow with S scaling in dex.

After playing a bit more, I honestly feel like I'm cheating using the lightning spear. Things just lay down in Sen's Fortress. Even Anor Londo is damn easy so far. Lightning spear+2, Eagle Shield+3, Gold Hemmed armor...it's actually viable to keep my shield up while attacking thanks to the ridiculously high stability. Equip Havel's ring and you still get the fastest roll with that equipment.

Now just waiting for the difficulty to ramp again (not really).

Oh don't worry. You want a challenge, then try and solo Ornstein and Smough in Anor Londo. I have ventured into some of the later areas and they are terrifying. I've heard that in the Demon Ruins NORMAL enemies are Taurus Demons and Capra Demons.

Yeah after beating/cheesing Ceaseless Discharge I wandered into the Demon Ruins. Taurus and Capra demons appear in groups (thankfully you can pull them individually). The Capras also respawn ifwhen you die. The Taurus demons hit hard down there (and seem to have much better tracking than the initial boss fight).

I just did the catacombs at around SL65. Those skeletons were so annoying. I made an awesome weapon. If you take a small shield and get it to +10 you can use the soul of the moonlight butterfly and make the crystal ring shield. It is perfect for melee characters because if you press L2 it sends out a projectile Kung Lao style. It is like a magic attack for non magic users. Right now it is doing 550 damage per.

I got cursed for half of my health, grinded 6000 souls to buy the cure, the went back down there and IMMEDIATELY died from the curse again. I timed my swing with the halberd wrong and it left me vulnerable to about 5 of the frogs. I was trying to do the 360 spin slice with the halberd and kill as many as I could, since they are easy easy to kill. Oh well.

Also, if you walk back in the room (the middle of the floor) where the first boss was at, you will be in for a treat

I guess I kind of feel bad for the reviewers that they had to play this game before there was much help on the internet. I got cursed and forgot the priest sold them for 3000 souls. Grinding for 6000 at that point in the game would take a pretty long time. I heard in the Japanese version, the sewer merchant doesn't even sell the cure at all. I used the sparkly the crow method when I got cursed. There is no way I would have known that shit without the internet. I use the internet to look up some things but generally go into an area blind and then look and see if I missed any good items.

Fact of the matter, there is really no reason to fall down there with those frogs (don't think there is any good items). You can get to the boss in the sewers so quickly if you know the shortcut. Those frogs are creepy.

There is a pretty decent ring down there that give you life every time you kill an enemy, of course only if your health meter has room. So its almost pointless except you don't have to stop and take the time to drink a flask. The best way to deal with the frogs is fire pyromancy.

I heard the patched so the curse will not stack anymore. The curse stacking is some bullshit. And the fact that you have to find a cure, that's a pain in the ass, is also some bullshit.

Been taking it slow lately. Farmed some souls to buy all of the magic available at firelink shrine and also to buy shards to bump all my armor to +3 and a boat load of weapons to +5ish.

Went back into the Asylum tonight, got my second Black Knight Shield to drop and my first Black Knight Sword. I want some of the matching armor realllly bad.

wanted to edit the last post but was too late....

I stopped leveling up at soul level 37. So far my stats are:

Vitality: 18
Attunement: 12
Endurance: 22
Strength: 20
Dexterity: 18
Resistance: 12
Intelligence: 10
Faith: 8

Having my flame already to +15 is such a huge temptation to jack up my magic stats to get some use out of that S rating.

RH: (Black Knight Sword/Drake Sword) / Longbow +5
LH: (Crest Shield/Black Knight Shield) / Pyromancy's Flame +15
Elite Knight Helm/Armor/Leggings and Hard Leather Gauntlets (all +3)

Decided to stop building my soul level up so I can give myself time to figure out which direction I would like to go from here. Also, I'd like to go through as many of the covenants as possible this playthrough and I don't want to have to farm my balls off to clear away my sin. (not sure if that's a big deal yet or not)

I've heard that the INT scaling only effects melee for pyromancy. Are you expecting it to upgrade the spells? I haven't tested it myself. Also, you can leave a covenant without acquiring sin if you talk to the priest in the gargoyle bell tower.

I fought Seath tonight and kept wondering if From really used netcode to place cursed "statues" of other players who got cursed during the fight. They could just use an algorithm to randomly place statues around the area. If they really use netcode then a ton of people be getting cursed by that dude. Haha, it's so horrific.

People claim 800 damage with that thing. I think you can increase the damage with a +15 pyromancy flame in your right hand but haven't tried it. I was co-oping with some dudes in the demon ruins and we were coming down the hill before the boss dropping taurus demons in 2 seconds launching that thing. I think From screwed up.

Yeah with the +5 lightning spear it hits for about 620ish on the Taurus Demons and 850 on those dinosaur bottoms. It should probably be patched for pvp. Also seems like item scaling sucks.

playing as a knight, i sure feel fat and slow. doesn't help that almost all of my original levels were pumped into vit and end. least i can take a hit, though now im needing to bump up my str/dex to use some weapons.

im on the gargoyles now, but i feel like i dont burst enough to really deal with the one before the second comes out. tho i did cut off his tail without much issue (though the axe seems like crap right now).

i guess ill give it a few more tries with the ole poke and go one hand halber later.

^^ There is a merchant in Sen's Fortress that sells them before the boss if you have made it that far. The blobs in the depths and the slugs in blighttown drop them. I just went to the merchant. I really do not have much of a patience for farming anything other than souls.

I wear heavy armor too and use Havel's Ring to up my equipment load so I can roll. If I need to move really fast I'll use the gold hemmed set.

I found out today you can get to Blightown without beating the boss in the sewers if you have the Master Key. The Master Key is probably good for speeds, as I heard some guy in China beat the game in 88 minutes. Also, i fought the boss in the sewers and it seemed really easy, but I was like level 30, and with a Raw Halbred ... probably mast people fight him with they are int he low 20s or high teens. I am gonna wait until the weekend to really dig into Blightown, because it feels like its gonna be a lot of trial and error trying to figure what is making me TOXIC!! and how to stop it or get around it.

I personally wouldn't get into farming for items all that much until you get into Sen's Fortress for the +200 item discovery rate ring. But yeah, I've read that the Blighttown slugs are some of the best shard farming because they drop the green and the large.

I love the gold hem set. Really glad I ran down there to get it after I rang the second bell.

Might be spoilers.. but has anyone found many "Don't do this or <insert how the game irrevocably changes here>"

POSSIBLE SPOILERS...

After you get back from Blighttown and you talk to the pyromancy trainer that you saved previously, he'll ask you about your new chaos pyromancy's. if you agree to tell him about them, he'll leave firelink and be found in blighttown hollow.

Also you can't trade with Framps after joining Darkwraith.

Anyone found many more of these? I'd like to get as much out of my first playthrough as possible.

End POSSIBLE SPOILERS

i think i found my answer. looks like only each blacksmith only takes certain embers, so there doesn't appear to be a risk of missing out on upgrades by giving an ember to one blacksmith versus another.

my slow fat ass had to give up on the gargs with my normal approach. i was up to about soul level 25, making no noticeable progress (raped first one to 50% no prob, then just got trounced.

got the drake sword, did the same thing. killed both without getting hit once (sans fire dmg).

it feels a bit hollow since this thing does 2x as much dmg as my halberd, but the one time i tried to be legit and summon the helper npc (which i assume would make it a lot easier), some player invaded me and destroyed me in 1 hit. i had no more humanity so i couldnt summon the helper again. talk about gay.

oh well, i put that bastard away to my inventory since it makes it much too easy and upgraded my halberd a bit. took on that stone dude by the bonfire slowly but surely in 2 tries so that feels a bit better.

I took a shield up to +10 yesterday for the purpose of combining it with the moonlight butterfly's soul... THEN I noticed that I had been upgrading a large shield and not a small... back to blighttown to farm more shards...

So far, I've spent a little time using: longsword, scimitar, winged spear, lightning spear, drake sword and black knight's sword. After getting used to it, I think the black knight's sword is my favorite. It's a little bit slower, but I'm digging the power on that thing. Think I might find a good backstab/crit weapon and upgrade it a bit, then go play around some with it.

Just met Frampt for the first time. Handsome devil.

The Drake Sword really isn't all that overpowered. I had that and the black knight sword at the same time and just switched back and forth. I still died many, many times.

Some large shields may work for the Crystal Ring Shield. The list of ones that do not work are but that list isn't confirmed or anything.

East-West, Crest Shield, Dragon Crest Shield, Silver Knight Shield, Black Knight Shield, Stone Greashield, Havel's Greatshield
