What with the advent of the internet, tablets and iPads, I think the textbook (the book in general) is becoming more archaic by the day, at least where the college campuses are concerned. Seems errant to dump a shit ton of money into a new bookstore that looks more like an airport terminal than a place to browse the shelves.
Unless they're just looking to build a fancy new common building under the ruse of a bookstore to garner more public support." |

I believe the plan is to knock down both the bookstore and Talley and combine them into one building. Which admittedly does make sense, I just think the design is a steaming pile and I like the 60's modernism of the bookstore's exterior. And the fountain/courtyard. Talley on the other hand is a big bland box and will not be particularly missed by anyone (though I could be wrong).3/18/2011 8:41:42 PM |

Personally I think the new plan looks great. And it's going to add a ton of needed meeting space which is nice. I wish the plan incorporated study nooks that had walls made from chalkboard. Those were awesome for studying when I took a summer course at Middlebury College. 3/20/2011 1:22:11 PM |

As a grad student most of my readings come from PDF files but I print all of them because I hate staring at a computer screen and I like to make notes and highlight.
I say keep the current bookstore because it isn't obsolete, it's still serves its intended purpose but Talley needs to go. So does Poe and that pile of bricks outside of Harris (wtf is that supposed to be?) 3/20/2011 5:34:26 PM |

It looks like on their 3D model they incorporated that wave thing in front of the bookstore. 3/20/2011 10:19:11 PM |
