you can see the iss pretty well for the next couple of days (and a few days ago). nasa via fb said you can actually make out the shape of it w/ regular binoculars. 4/21/2011 11:05:53 AM |

i drove to the beach saturday night and saw the ISS... i knew what it was without even having to look it up. Then the next night i saw it again. it was very impressive... looked brighter than venus does sometimes. 4/21/2011 11:45:53 AM |

i wasn't being bitchy, that's why i said "maybe i'm misreading..." if i was being bitchy, i would have said "what makes you so damn special?" or something like that.

Yeah, these things don't tend to be "estimated" considering how precise the orbit is. But then again the locations may be a bit general in your reference. I am surprised that you saw it through the clouds. 4/21/2011 9:29:57 PM |

i really really hope that atlantis will come around in the evening instead of wee hours of the morning. i suppose i'll get up early at least 1 day since it'd be the last time ever...but i'd rather not have to.

yeah that was a bush-era thing.
they needed to be retired, though. maybe could have gotten a couple more years out of them. i think 2014 was the ultimate drop dead date. 6/1/2011 2:45:49 AM |
Wraith All American 27247 Posts user info edit post |
The shuttles originally were designed to only have 20 years of service. Retiring them now in 2011 was already pushing it, so Bush was really just doing what had to be done. 6/1/2011 8:58:33 AM |
Smath74 All American 93278 Posts user info edit post |
agreed, but it would have been nice to have had a legitimate replacement by the time they were retired. 6/1/2011 8:59:50 AM |

Well Bush put Constellation into place but didn't really give the proper funding and reasonable time constraints. Obama wasn't pleased with what we had done and in general doesn't support manned spaceflight and decided against it. So I guess they tag teamed us. It's cool that both liberals and conservatives in the executive branch are against NASA . At least they can agree on something. 6/1/2011 9:08:51 AM |

also, this is an awesome pic... view image for the full size (2549x1696px):
