Yes, apple is creating discussion, but it is bad discussion. People who didn't know much about the iphone now hear others bring up all of its drawbacks because of a false commercial

Apple also blatantly lies about its other products and grossly overpriced everything, so apple had a history of misinformation and bad business that creates a feeling of resentment in the public when they see apple taking advantage of naive friends and family

first 3 generations of iphones were awesome and ground breaking... but they aren't offering anything that you cant get (a better version of) with android now. Hence, my having every generation iphone up until the 4, and now having an android (and probably not ever going back)


as for tablets though... I don't know if i'd go ipad2 or xoom at this point

I've never seen that much appeal of tablets. I'd so much rather have a touchscreen netbook.

Only advantage I see is a much better battery life on average for tablets.

well as it stands, I have a traditional tablet (a laptop that has a stylus) and it works just fine for what I use it for now. I no longer use it for work/school, and I never used it for gaming, or anything like that- it is pretty much an internet machine, and I will occasionally watch movies or do basic word processing on it. A new tablet would be perfect for that.

I, too, would see myself getting a tablet before another laptop. I have a tablet laptop for work, though without the stylus, and the screen has seen some better days (fairly dim even at highest brightness) so I'd be hesitant to get another. At home I would just use a laptop for internet, which one of these padlets or w/e would be perfect for...if I didn't already have a smartphone.

apple has just done a good job of marketing with the catchy name..

just like when the ipod first came out, some people called every mp3 player an ipod. they thought ipod was the general name for anything that played mp3s...they didn't know it was a particular brand and model

it is the same thing with the iphone. some folks who aren't technologically savvy think that every smart phone is an "iphone". my dad just wants a phone he can talk on, i spent 30 minutes trying to explain to him what an app was and he said the only app he needs is one where he can talk to someone on the phone.

can't fault apple for good marketing...they have their names "ipod" and "iphone" everywhere...plus it is a lot easier to remember those than something like droids and androids

You're either trolling or you're ignorant. That article is just as disingenuous as the ads you're bashing.

First it fails to do an apple to apple comparison. It's completely oblivious to the fact that they are comparing server hardware to normal consumer hardware, as well as being critical of apple for things other PC manufacturers do ("overcharge" fir upgrades).

-On the first point, he fails to point out that you are upgrAding 2 processors. He points out that you're getting 2 processors, but he doesn't point out what the cost of one 2.66 ghz processor cost at the time. You're reLly paying $700 upgrade per processor. It really isn't that far fetched when you consider that intel chArges out o the ass for server processors, and at the time there was a large gap in pricing for the new nehelam processors for little performance increase. Factor in the markup Apple puts on there products, the price isn't rediculous as that idiot would have you believe.

-the memory is his dumbest point. First of all, you're going from 6 lower capacity memory modules to 4 higher capacity memory modules. He also failed to mention that it is ECC memory, which is far more expensive than non-registered ddr3 memory. So yeah, that $100 upgrade isn't bad at all. And if you don't like the option, buy the least amount that you can and upgrade it yourself.

-I'll bet that RAID card in the Mac Pro is custom built to work with the Mac pro. Anyway, notice how the compared it to the cheapest one he found, that means that there are more expensive RAID cards available. I don't know about you, but I usually avoid the cheapest of most computer parts.

-if you don't like the price of the hard drives, you can always upgrade them yourself. But in my experience, apples price is in line with other manufacturers.

-lol at him saying it's just a DVD burner. It's a slot loaded DVD burner made specifically for apple. If you can buy one off newegg to go in the Mac pro, then do it.

-the video cards are overpriced. I will agree with him there.

-the monitors are completely reasonable as far as price goes. First of all, it will be more expensive over the cheaper TN panel monitors. Those apple monitors use IPS panels, which are far superior over TN monitors for color reproduction. It's hardly a fair comparison. Compare the apple monitors to other IPS monitors, and apple has them competitively priced.

Overall it read like a pissed off 16 year old who really wants a mac pro, but is angry at its price.

Instead of comparing apple's products to something self built, a better comparison is to compare it to something from a PC manufacturer.

Oh, and stop saying apples products are overpriced. If they were, they wouldn't be setting record profits each year. Just because you don't like the product or the price, doesn't make it overpriced.

I bought my current phone from some woman on craigslist for $20.

My other phone broke, and without extending my plan, they wanted like $120 for a basic phone. They wanted around $60 for the smartphones, and I asked them if I could get one of those but have them turn all the smart stuff off so I didn't have to pay the extra $30 fee each month--no go.

So, yeah, did a deal in the parking lot outside the Verizon store.

Saved hundreds of dollars and avoided extending my plan! It was months ago, and I still feel super savvy and better than everybody else!

So you are trolling? I would hardly consider myself a "apple fan boy." I like their products, but there's a lot of their products I wouldn't pay for, like a Mac Pro, or an iMac. I like their laptops, and I like my iPhone. I understand if you don't like the iPhone, there are a lot of good Droid phones on the market, but I just didn't care for any of them. They were either just as much as an iPhone, yet was too big and had features that I thought were useless, or they were a cheaper phone and shit.

Had the iPhone not come to Verizon, I would have a Droid phone right now.
