I went down to Cape Canaveral for the April 29th launch a little over a month ago
It ended up getting delayed about 2 weeks, so I missed out
I'm hoping to make the final launch though 6/7/2011 8:11:10 PM |

Any idea when they will hold the lottery for the last launch? Registration closed on Sunday but I still haven't received any emails. 6/10/2011 9:09:16 AM |

I read on another forum that the emails were sent out over the weekend and that second chance emails were sent out yesterday. It's likely that all tickets will be claimed by the end of today. 6/15/2011 8:25:10 AM |

I youtubed a couple videos from the causeway, which is the closest you can legally be to the launch.. those are the ~$60 NASA tickets. i was surprised how far away you still are...
For those that don't have tickets, you can get a decent view from the A. Max Brewer Memorial Bridge. Youtube videos from there show that it is further than the ticket locations, but still not that bad. 6/29/2011 8:39:49 PM |

My father says that Jetty Park is an okay place to see the launch if you can't get causeway tickets but you have to get there hella hella hella early as it fills up rather quickly. I've seen one launch from there and it still a good view but it's hard to beat the causeway where I saw my first two! 6/29/2011 8:54:12 PM |

Right now there is only a 30% chance of a launch on Friday. Weather doesn't look to be cooperating. 7/6/2011 8:42:36 AM |

Even if it is a clear day at Cape Canaveral, the weather in Europe also plays a big part in shuttle launch windows. There are I think three abort landing strips in Europe and at least one of them has to have optimal winds/cloud coverage to launch. 7/6/2011 11:08:28 AM |

I'm really glad that the launch of our Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles in a nuclear crisis isn't dependent on the chance of rain sprinkles. 7/8/2011 8:45:51 AM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
Rain isn't really the issue. High winds, cloud cover, and severe lightning are. And the reason weather doesn't interfere with ICBM launches is because if wind or lightning knocks one out of the air the warhead won't go off. The most damage anyone would get from that is maybe if the ICBM falls on your house or something.
The next launch window would be tomorrow at 11:02AM EST. If that gets scrubbed, it will go up on Sunday at 10:38AM EST. 7/8/2011 8:54:31 AM |

I heard that if it gets delayed today, they will automatically go to a 48 hour turnaround for a sunday launch b/c of the traffic, crowds, etc... 7/8/2011 9:51:06 AM |
