page two.

I saw it Saturday. I found parts to be really funny, but they were pretty few and far between. The others made me smile, but didn't really warrant a laugh. It felt like it was going for some for some of the Superbad/40 Year Old Virgin/The Hangover hype, but it was still pretty much a movie for women.

Any preview I have seen for this movie did not make it seem very funny at all, but it seems like several people I know who saw it enjoyed it. Not sure whether I'll see this or not yet (at least in theaters I mean).

I think it was great. But fine to wait for it to come to netflix or dvd. I think part of the reason I found it so funny, was that I didn't expect funny from the previews. I expected romantic comedy/chick flick and was pleasantly surprised by how much I laughed.

Saw this last night, hilarious movie. Surprised it's not getting a little more buzz.

It's basically Knocked Up without the baby (has almost the exact same plot structure). Not quite as funny as Knocked Up, but still very, very funny. I thought that just about all the characters had their funny moment, even the big lady.

^I didn't realize that, I haven't been paying as much attention to movies as of late. I hadn't heard much about it.

^^I don't know, not necessarily the plot points but the way it was all laid out reminded me a lot of Knocked Up. The goofy sex scene early in the movie, the way the cafe/restaurant scene was shot, the way a rock-bottom loser falls even further because he/she can't deal with change, etc. There were just a lot of things in there that reminded me specifically of Knocked Up. But I can be pretty autistic about that sort of thing, so maybe it's just me.

I just found Wiig's character far deeper and more interesting than Rogen's.

qft.

...to the point that they shouldn't even be compared.

They really shouldn't.

But the comparisons are natural i guess, with the purely superficial similarities.

I thought that this movie was perfectly average. The jokes seemed forced and it just wasn't working for me.

I would honestly put Bridesmaids in the Top 3 funniest movies since 2000 - behind Old School and Superbad.

Then again - call me old fashioned - but I don't think the modern humor in these movies is all that entertaining (Protect and Serve, Pineapple Express, any recent Will Ferrell movie, etc. etc.). That is to say, modern comedies have been profusely lacking in humor that appeals to me, personally. Give me some Mel Brooks or some solid British comedies and I'll be set.

That being said, even though I approached Bridesmaids with heavy skepticism, I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Agreed. Melissa McCarthy was funny. The guy who played Rhodes was funny. That's about it.

They had a pretty good ensemble cast and barely used any of them. Instead it was two hours of Kristen Wiig having a shitty life.

I'm almost certain that by the end of the year it won't even be one of the 3 funniest movies of 2011.

I'm afraid I've got some sort of defect.

I didn't think it was very funny.

After all the rave reviews (and four bucks for rental), I'm actually quite disappointed.

Really...not only was it not funny to me, it was painful to watch.

Im with ya bridget. I thought it was really funny until they went to vegas, or tried to, and then it went to crap.

Yes! That was definitely the turning point, and it never bounced back!

I got about halfway through this. It was definitely way too chick flicky for me, and I thought it was going to be more of a hangover-esque type movie.
