I have some Fat Tires in the fridge (not gonna lie) but I have not opened one up in a month
or so. Just been too busy between work and radio geek stuff.
I have not missed it.
I guess I just echo Saps when he said:

I always rely on another substance to quit a substance. When I lay off the green, I drink, when I lay off the drink I smoke.

approximately 48 hours ago I swore I was going to stop drinking until after exams

I lasted an entire day. and prank called my friend and then couldn't figure out how to hang up my own phone

I might need to go to AA sometime in the future

I probably go through between a handle and a handle-and-a-half of cheap whiskey each week. I switched to coke zero as a mixer about a year ago, which ameliorated the weight gain somewhat.

My issues with quitting have always been boredom and peer pressure. Unfortunately I've established something of an, ah, reputation among my peers, so whenever they're drinking and I'm not, the pressure comes on quickly. Unless I have a clear and immediate reason to refrain, I usually cave in pretty quickly.

I've also never really had a compelling reason to stop for any significant length of time. I make good grades. I've never been late to work. I abhor drunk driving and do not do it. Drinking makes me feel genuinely good and does not make me want to fight somebody, start drama, or get all weepy. So whenever someone says that I should cut back, all I can think to say is, "Why?"

Wikipedia's answer to the "why" question:
Quote :
"Binge drinking is associated with increased impulsivity, impairments in spatial working memory and impaired emotional learning. These adverse effects are believed to be due to the neurotoxic effects of repeated withdrawal from alcohol on aberrant neuronal plasticity and cortical damage. Repeated periods of acute intoxication followed by acute detoxification has profound effects on the brain and is associated with an increased risk of seizures as well as cognitive deficits. The effects on the brain are similar to those seen in alcoholics who have been detoxified multiple times but not as severe as in alcoholics who have no history of prior detox. Thus the acute withdrawal syndrome appears to be the most important factor in causing damage or impairment to brain function. The brain regions most sensitive to harm from binge drinking are the amygdala and prefrontal cortex."

What they're saying is that after years of heavy drinking your brain don't think good no more.

At that rate you're drinking ~6-9 shots per day. You would probably suffer some withdrawal symptoms if you quit. Many people would recommend that anyone drinking that much go to a doctor and get a benzo prescription before quitting to prevent some of the worst withdrawal symptoms. You're young and unlikely to have been drinking heavily long enough to experience many of the symptoms now, but the withdrawals get worse each time you do it. It's a process called "Kindling". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_withdrawal_syndrome

I'd suggest that you and ncsuallday have a yearly physical which includes a liver function test...blood work which measures the levels of certain enzymes that can be indicative of liver damage. Nobody can tell you when to cut back and even if they did you wouldn't listen. Unfortunately, by the time your body tells you to cut back some amount of damage will already be done.

I have the same issue - next weeks poker game is going to be interesting.

I'm on day 5 - had some withdraw - but nothing to justify pills. Still have not slept more then a few hours a night - but have a feeling that will change tonight.

i've been thinking recently that i have begun to drink too much

i keep saying that i'm gonna stop for a while, but inevitably someone calls me or something and wants me to come out that night...

le sigh.

i don't ever drink alone, though, except for maybe a beer or two with dinner sometimes... so at least there's that.

Seriously, unless you get wasted off liquor wine and beer at the same time its pretty easily to avoid hangovers. Especially when you have years of experience.

my weekends of heavy drinking have actually increased over the last 4-6 months since moving uptown within walking distance to some great bars. but they are still only a few times a month. The rest of my nights are usually a few craft beers or some cheap drafts at a knights or checkers game. but yeah, hangovers are a lot less common now that i don't drink trash.

my memory is terrible. i thought maybe i had ADD or something, but i think i might have really drank myself retarded. i don't really drink often, but the once a week or every other week, i drink a ton. i used to be kinda smart, and witty, and athletic. now i'm slow, and an asshole, and unmotivated to do shit. oh well. i can always quit later.

I've cut back considerably. Was drinking a couple of glasses a day. Now I'm buzzed from half a glass. You def save a little money from cutting back, which is a huge plus. I cut back mostly bc the girls I hung out with a year ago are either pregnant or trying to get pregnant, so they don't drink. It's amazing how much we end up drinking socially just bc bars are the normal places to go with friends.

Now we just do power walks and pool time, for the most part.

from about halfway up the page, in the Wikipedia list of alcohol withdrawal signs and symptoms, one is "Euphoria". sign me up!

in all seriousness as i got older i didn't want to waste my days too hungover to do anything. nowadays i'll maybe have like one delicious high-gravity beer every weekday night, and on weekends i try to control myself. key word: try. always end up seeing an old friend and end up being obnoxious with them.

I split a bottle of wine with the girlfriend for every dinner we cook. If no wine, then a beer or two.

I don't, however, binge on weekend nights off. I'll add a couple more drinks to the total (so maybe 5 or 6 on my "big" nights)...but I just don't go big time that much anymore. It still happens, but more like once or twice a month instead of once or twice a week like it did in law school (and the first couple years afterwards).

Slowly turning into a grown-up....

this is us, but we rarely have more than a glass or two, so we never finish a bottle in one sitting

i might have a beer (never more than one) if we're just at home and i want one

we go out once a week to someplace that i'll order multiple beers (2-3)

all in all, i very rarely have more than 6-7 drinks per week and happy with that

Ah, I forgot that drinking a lot of Busch Lights is serious business. I was at the Saucer last night, and to ease your mind I'll tell you that I had 6 medium to high alcohol content pints and had no hangover this morning. So suck it

I'm kinda brokish at the moment so no beers until Friday.

Also the biggest thing for me, I think, is just the whole novelty of getting trashed everytime I drink has worn off. I can stop at just two beers and be okay with that. Most of the time when I get trashed now, it's more of by accident...meaning I'm out with friends and we are having such a great time and I keep ordering another drink I don't realize how trashed I am until I go to lay down in bed and the room starts to spin and I have to run to the bathroom...and then I end up passing out onthe bathroom floor, then I make my way back to bed and then I spend the next two days hating life.

Those nights are becoming farther and farther apart now.
