the problem is the vast majority of the world had/has/will have bad math teachers starting from elementary. (if you are doing 'foil', you had a sucky teacher) that screws them up and by the time they reach HS or college, they hate it and suck at it.

Weird, those are the only two math subjects I excelled at as well. I remember making barely Bs in high school math and then making top scores in geometry and statistics.
