What? All I saw were a bunch of people trying to convince you that cast-iron skillets are the shit.

When you start off by saying:

"
talking about buying a cast iron griddle to use on the stove. I am completely against this as cast iron is just such a shitty cookware to use in any situation. "

You are putting yourself in a position to be attacked. Dont be a presumptuous dick in you question and people just might be nice to you. You're lucky you got ANY helpful advice, asshole.

u mad?

Sounds like you only wanted people whose opinions aligned with yours to respond. Cast iron is the shit and it's super easy to clean with 500 degree heat, sea salt and paper towels.

Here we go with the personal attacks. Don't you have something better to do than trying to hurt the feelings of someone who disagrees with you?

Please just stop trolling this thread.

hahahha, you got that butthurt over one guy asking if it was a troll thread?

And then you quoted my comment, which came AFTER your little tantrum. You realize that right?

And he was asking if it was a troll thread only as a commentary that cast iron is so awesome that anyone questioning it's awesomeness must be trolling. It wasn't an assault on your character in the least.

I honestly thought this was a troll thread at first.

My girlfriend swears by her cast iron pan.

LOL the only character attack he could find in the thread was the same thing he had called every person in the thread already.

This has to be trolling. I think he's probably sad that people just started talking about how awesome Cast Iron is instead of feeding the troll by calling him out, so now he's making another attempt.

No trolling here, just a bunch of folks extolling the virtues of cast iron.

If you are speaking of a large 2-burner griddle, I recommend a countertop electric one. It is much easier to use and you'll enjoy it more.

^ I have used those before and I do think they're a far better alternative than a heavy, pain in the ass cast iron griddle.

I've never used a cast iron pan. I dont think I would want to clean it properly .

I had never used a gas stove until a year ago and have since realized they are worth the price of admission!

Tread lightly. If she's the one that will be cooking, cleaning, and maintaining the thing then you don't want to complain to her about cooking, cleaning, and maintaining the thing.

If he's as big of a dick face to her as he is here, his best bet is to not buy her anything heavy.

"My main issue with the glass top stoves is their 'energy-saving' modes of turning off the burner when they sense that the skillet/pan is 'hot enough'. So they'll turn off for a bit, then turn back on. Drives me nuts. If I want it on 7, leave it on 7. Not 7 off 7 off 7 off 7 off. But even with all that it seems to do a decent job."

Your stove cannot do 7, no electric stove can, only gas can vary instantaneous heat production. All an electric stove can do is 0 or 10, everything in between is produced by oscillating between 0 (off) and 10 (on) with a reasonable duty cycle. As such, a stove setting of 7 is achieved by operating at 10 for 70% of the time and 0 the remaining 30%.

An electric stove is relying upon your cookware to average the heat out. This is why with electric stoves it is important to use sufficiently heavy cookware to absorb and retain the heat across cycles.

All it did was spark a discussion about cast iron, I think it was largely a failure as a troll thread.

not trying to "attack your character" but as others have said (didn't read whole thread) it does heat pretty easily and for certain foods like cornbread for example, it allows you to cook the sides of the food and not just the bottom.

- Cast iron skillets add more iron to your diet, which is especially good for women
- Old skillets make a huge difference in taste, especially with meats. I can't beat my parents steaks because their skillet (we pittsburg sear our steaks) is more seasoned than mine. It's also nice to get it white hot and then take it outside to the grill to throw the steak on so your kitchen doesn't get smokey and you still get a solid sear that you can't get from the grill alone.
- Makes a great weapon to ward off intruders

you should really get a good spatula to go with your cast iron skillet

my favorite thing is a copper skillet. Copper bottom, stainless top to be exact. They spread the heat very evenly and are easy to clean. Copper ftmfw imo

We have a Lodge Logic 6 (8?)" skillet for eggs, a 12" for big stuff, and a big Dutch oven thing. We use them about every day. I got tired of throwing out stainless steel and non-stick pots after my former roommates managed to destroy a lot from cooking.

I will never let anyone except the boy or I clean our cast iron from now on: we had an American Dance Festival student who washed our 12" skillet every day with Dawn and totally stripped the seasoning finish, unbeknownst to us while we were at work. It took months to get back the layer with vegetable shortening, which takes even longer than lard.

My grandma gave one of hers to my mom to give to me. My mom fucking scrubbed the bitch clean and destroyed years of seasoning.

YES. a flat-edged METAL spatula is essential. plastic won't quite scrape off all the food bits, and your skillet can grow a food tumor! My spatula cost $22 and at first I was horrified but it's been worth every penny.

I bought it over 2 years ago, looks like I remembered the exact price!! It's really classy looking too. Sometimes I bring the skillet to the table, fajita style, and serve using the spatula!

A house without at least 100 lbs of cast iron cookware is not a home.
