that guy is a huge duke fan, obviously, and he also wrote a "not our rivals" piece after unc curb-stomped us: http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/15351/the-cruel-kings-of-carolina-strike-again
they also have a big unc fan on staff but I forget his name 2/9/2012 3:41:25 PM |

Quote : | "In Raleigh, Mark Turgeon took over for the vilified Sidney Lowe, who could recruit but plainly couldn't motivate or coach. With five starters who average 10 points per game, Turgeon is the envy of first-year coaches everywhere. To his credit, he's made the most of his situation, compiling a 7-3 ACC record. Unfortunately, the schedule is about to get murderous. With Duke, Florida State, and North Carolina back-to-back-to-back, the bloom on Turgeon's rose might be ready to fade. One upset, though, and State will have a hell of a signature win in its belt come March." |

Well, for one, he is meeting the president. Don't try so hard to look like a slob. But Simmons is a tool in general, not just because he tries to pretend he is the average sports fan. I wouldn't expect more from a Mass-hole though. 3/1/2012 12:24:30 PM |

I'm a fan of his column, but if you had just said he was a tool for the way he wrote or acted I could have accepted that. To each his own. But to say he is a tool for unbuttoning the top bottom is pretty lame. He is a comical sports writer. It would have been toolish to come in decked out in a snooty suit with a power tie.
I enjoyed the podcast. It's nice to see the President unscripted and just talking like an average guy about sports. 3/1/2012 1:16:27 PM |

What a tired fucking argument. It's said anytime there is any president ever doing anything other than sitting in the oval office. When Bush played golf or Obama talks about sports etc. They are people. Get over it you fuckwit.3/1/2012 1:28:17 PM |

I guess since they couldnt get press passes to the Duke-UNC game, they decided to cover our game last night. Also, there is video of the Calvin Leslie play about halfway through:

Haters ITT. Judging from most of the posts in Sports Talk here, you guys shouldn't be criticizing anyone's writing ability. If shitting on Bill Simmons is cool, consider Ernie Miles Davis. 3/1/2012 2:29:17 PM |

I'm a partially reformed Simmons hater. I still think he's a bit of a twat who's been writing the same five columns for 10 years, but Grantland is such a fantastic website that I can't believe no one put it together earlier. I commend him for creating something new and interesting in an age of Bleacher Report slideshows. 3/1/2012 3:03:51 PM |

Meh, it looked like he was wearing a tie, but it might just be the light reflecting off his shirt. Either way, he is trying way too hard to look sloppy.
Anyway, I forgot about the little kid dancing on the jumbotron and then getting punched in the face by his sister. Hilarious stuff, really lightened the mood of the crowd last night. 3/1/2012 3:52:05 PM |

it's definitely unbuttoned. Look at his collar and tie, and then look at Obama's.
if you're gonna make the effort to dress up in a full suit and tie but intentionally fuck it up (like unbuttoning the top button), why bother? 3/1/2012 4:23:56 PM |

I like the guy, not to the point of worship. But it seems some here go out of their way to hate him. Of course, there are more talented sports writers out there, but no one's disputing that. My favorite writer on the site is Bill Barnwell. His NFL pieces make Peter King look like a little bitch. 3/1/2012 4:28:30 PM |

^^^^^ If they ever do a movie for Romney, Pullman could play him.
I do agree that it is the president, even if it's a casual interview you should dress nice as a show of respect for the office.
They'd just accept rugby rules as far as tackling is concerned. (nothing above the chest, wrap the guy up, no dropping a guy on his head)

Although Simmons' shtick is tired, it's still miles better than Reilly. And he isn't a tool because he would try to dress sloppy when interviewing the president. He is a tool because he is a liberal Yankee who lives in LA and roots for UNC, even though he's never been to Chapel Hill. 3/2/2012 4:02:06 PM |
