I have already decided on a Fall Wedding by the river on my friend's farm. Following the wedding, I am having lots of alcohol, a pig and a cow on the roaster and lots of other amazing southern food. I can't imagine wearing a long dress and sweating my hair and makeup off. This was pretty much my decision and my other was down with that. No cliche beach or summer or whatever... 6/20/2011 8:36:35 AM |

As someone who had an outdoor ceremony I totally agree. But we also did it in early May, on the beach, with casual dress code, and the bar was open before the ceremony. I don't think people minded being outdoors
I went to an AWFUL wedding several years ago that was outdoors in August near Greenville with zero shade covering and they started the ceremony 45 minutes late because their officiant was passed out drunk. 6/20/2011 8:48:12 AM |

Had an outdoor wedding on Friday at 6pm, over in Chatham County. It was hot, I had to go early, but it was fine. The actual ceremony was quite brief, and it was a lot of fun. The reception was outside as well. I sweated through my suit before the night was over. It was a big NC and Texas-based crowd so I don't think anyone was unfamiliar with heat. 6/20/2011 9:01:04 AM |

We're getting married outside. On the beach. In October. 10-15 minute ceremony. "Beach formal" dress. (I.e. for men, flip flops, khaki pants, button ups without jackets, etc.)
I feel like most will be comfortable with that. 6/20/2011 9:11:28 AM |

Summer outdoor weddings (or receptions) tend to be better done in the evening. Went to my cousin's wedding in Richmond 2 weekends ago--ceremony was indoors, mid-afternoon, and the reception was under a large tent in a garden outside starting at 6. There was also an old house as part of the reception venue but considering all the doors were open at all times I don't even think they had the A/C on. It was a little warm when we got there but drinks helped with that, and it stayed in the 70's once the sun started to set. Some rain did help with that. Groom/groomsmen wore summer suits rather than tuxes, bridesmaids' dresses were not long. But in any case, just don't do it outside in the middle of the day, problem solved.
At Wrightsville a few years ago I saw some folks who were having a mid-day wedding, in August, at a public access point. Double fail--it was blazing hot outside, easily in the 90's, so the guests looked uncomfortable as soon as they got out of their cars, plus parking was a bitch so they had people walking around the parking lot trying to stand in spaces to reserve them for wedding guests. One dude nearly got in a fight with a driver who didn't think you could reserve a space by standing in it (I would agree with that). Looked pretty miserable overall.

piddlebug's idea sounds lovely, and if people aren't out for long, you can tell the people who hate the beach to shut it. Is there going to be a reception outside as well or neh? And are you gonna do it at sunset or something pretty like that too? 6/20/2011 10:00:50 AM |

We got married early August because we had to sneak it in between semesters (was attending summer sessions at the time). Of course we didn't do it outdoors though. It was either then or December and we didn't feel like waiting.
Better the spring or summer than the fall. Out of all the complaints coming from men over when weddings occur I've got to think "don't do it during college football season" is pretty high on that list... unless you purposely schedule during a bye week.

Yeah I don't know
We have a friend that planned their wedding the weekend of an NCSU game (AND MY 30th BIRTHDAY), and our crowd is pretty fucking upset about it. Plus they have like a 4 hour gap between the ceremony and the reception (which is when the game starts). We're thinking about trying to do both. Everyone has season tickets together too
ALSO....yea my frans got married on the beach last October and it was hot and humid as fuck...this was also late in the evening too! Good luck with that

ewwww yea that sucks. and the gap between the wedding and the reception also sucks a lot (IMO). because then it really fucks up everyone's day. i think that is just rude. but maybe its just me. i totally would not get married on a home football game day (NCSU). and prob not an away game day either. but if i did (an away game OR if there was some HUGE other game on that day), i would consider a TV if the timing necessitated it.
but it would be classy and there wouldn't be chairs or sound and there would be a tv monitor who controlled when it was turned on and off. but i envisioned it being outside by like a cigar rolling station or something.
I CANT HELP IT. i keep going to weddings and i'm kind of a bitch so i nitpick what i don't like and file away what i do like. WHAT CAN I SAY I GUESS I AM CRAZY.
^ aren't those weddings like unbearably long (no offense). the one i went to was. i don't know if that is the case for all catholic weddings. i am so down with 20 min or less ceremonies. ESP if the weddings are outside.

Well she fucked up by planning her wedding a year and a half out...she forgot she's Catholic and will have a blessing (not a mass because he's not catholic) and that's in the day. She booked the reception for 6pm and now they can't change it.
I'm so mad just thinking about it.
Maybe it will be a game where they want me to shmooze clients in the Vaughn Towers so I can just stay in my dress and go to the game.

I went to two weddings this saturday, both were for the same couple. At the first one all the groom's friends/family had to wait outside (which was us) while the bride and all of them were inside. (this was a vietnamese ceremony, 11am)
it was getting so hot and humid, I could feel my hair frizz. We had to parade down the block to the house and then finally we were allowed inside. I made a beeline to the closest floor a/c vent and I straddled that thing for the entire ceremony!
The second ceremony (american, 5:30pm) was outside, facing the Delaware River. It was already hot and muggy but now we have the bugs, yay! There were ticks too, double yay! Plus, there were 7 groomsmen and 7 bridesmaids. I knew it was going to be way too long when when each person in the bridal party walked out in single file to the slowest song ever played in a wedding ceremony.
but really, it was a great day

I went to a wedding yesterday that had an Indian ceremony in the morning, four hour break, then American ceremony. I didn't go to the morning stuff since I wasn't feeling well but I heard the four hour break was pretty brutal.
And omg Sam I can't imagine a six hour break! 6/20/2011 1:16:03 PM |

Well, apparently the people invited to the ceremony were only immediate family... I'd imagine it was because if she experienced cataplexy and passed out, it would be ok since there was just immediate family around... plus I think it gave her time to rest
That's actually one reason I want a short ceremony - I don't know if I have the energy to do a long one then a long reception. I'll probably take a nap that day, too... well, maybe. Sometimes they make me feel worse. 6/20/2011 1:18:46 PM |

Long ceremonies usually are boring anyway. I like short and sweet. I went to a ceremony that had the slowest processional music EVER, a handfasting ceremony, sand ceremony, wine ceremony, flower ceremony, TWO sets of vows... I was like wtf did this woman look up every union ceremony known to man and throw them in?? Bitch ended up being almost an hour long. 6/20/2011 1:26:39 PM |
