Revisionist history is going to be in the form of "wilson wanted to play for a championship so he used the new transfer rule".

Play with me though, if Wilson was forced out, wouldn't all parties rather report it the way they did? You guys have already admitted that we would've been screwed for next year if kept wilson and therefore glennon was our best interest.

This team is built for 2012. "Downgrading" from Wilson to Glennon this year may drag us from eight wins to six or seven. Downgrading from a battle tested Glennon to (insert freshman here) next year could drag us from ten wins to five or six. We could be BCS level next season, and TOB did his part not to fuck that up.

I am extraordinarily nervous about Glennon living up to expectations. When we landed him as a recruit I was all exited about him being awesome, then RW made me forget all about him for 3 years. Now, I'm just not sure.

I have a feeling that TOB thinks that Glennon is better than Wilson. He is definately a better deep passer.

Also, I do not see a Glennon woot thread.

Why? Russell had to work pretty hard to get a deep ball up, and sometimes they looked pretty....pitiful. Glennon has a hell of an arm, on the other hand. His rankings and performance in all star events support this idea.

Now, does it translate on the field? That's another question, but I don't think you can argue that Glennon doesn't have a super rad deep ball [yes homo]

I heard Harrison Beck throws a good long ball, too

I almost forgot that TOB started Beck over Wilson. Hahahaha. Glennon is the savior, folks. Trust TOB

Quote :
"NCSU quarterback is ready for his opportunity
Jennings
July 5

North Carolina State head football coach Tom O'Brien made a controversial move to name Mike Glennon the starting quarterback for the 2011 season. O'Brien let former NC State quarterback Russell Wilson leave for Wisconsin, but O'Brien said Glennon is as talented as any quarterback he's ever had.

And after three years of waiting the redshirt junior Glennon is ready for his opportunity to prove that.
Glennon came in with the 2008 class after nearly won the quarterback job, O'Brien opted to redshirt the freshman.

"I thought redshirting was going to be great for me, but then Russell (Wilson) had the great career that he did so it kind of put me in a tough situation," Glennon said about falling to the number two spot. "Now, I'm excited to get the opportunity to play where I kind of sat on the bench the past three years."

Glennon has already graduated from NC State, finishing his degree in three years. As a graduate student he could have transferred without having to sit out a year. That possibility forced O'Brien to make the tough call early during spring ball.

"I have two years to do everything I wanted to do," said Glennon. "Two years is plenty of time to win games, win championships and individually succeed."

And Glennon really did not want to leave.

"I've always wanted to be at NC State. I graduated from here. I love the university. I love my teammates. I've dealt with the "shadow" thing with my brother in the past so I guess you can say I'm used to the whole comparison thing, but there's going to be pressure on any quarterback at this level."

With Wilson transferring to Wisconsin, Glennon said he'd have to catch some Badger games this fall.

"Oh yeah. I'll pull for (Wilson)," said Glennon. "I'm excited for him. I think it's a great opportunity for him. It's big-time football up there, and I'm sure they're excited to have him."

One unique tidbit about Glennon off the field is how much he takes pride in his Halloween costumes. He's dressed as Woody from Toy Story, Napoleon Dynamite and Harry Potter. So what are his future costume plans?

"I don't know," admitted Glennon. "I've always said for my senior year, I'd dress up as Coach O'Brien."

It's hard to miss the resemblance between the coach and player, Glennon said he's had to deal with a lot of people saying he looks just like Coach O'Brien's kid.

"Yeah, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing," Glennon joked."

I thought TOB basically said that Wilson could stay but he would be the backup.

Saying he was essentially cut is like saying Conan O'brien was essentially fired.

this is news to me.

also, it reinforces the theory that it was glennon who was actually holding the team hostage, not wilson.

but yes, people are shitting all over wilson/TOB for this situation, when glennon had as much to do with it as anybody.

I think TOB made the right decision. Do you let a guy you've been grooming for 3 years leave in the off-chance that your 3 year starter acts all Brett Favre and actually decides to play one more year? What if Glennon transferred and Wilson didn't decide to play one more year? Now the load falls onto a RS-Fr in Brosius who while decent, is probably not ready to play. You go with the secure choice of having Glennon for the next two years, instead of the gamble that Wilson plays for one more year.

Wilson didn't practice with the team, and left his return date up in the air, if he was even going to return at all. Glennon, on the other hand, was practicing with the team, and has been for the last 3 years, even though he's been on the bench. Yes, he had the option to transfer, and it would have been understable if he chose to, if Wilson was named the starter this year.

The two scenarios are very different, and I'm not even sure how you could construe it to "Glennon held the team hostage".

TOB not giving Wilson a chance to compete for the starting job is basically him caving to Glennon's demand to be starter or he is gone.

I have no problem with the fact that Wilson isn't here and that Glennon is. I have a problem with the fact that TOB came out months ago and said Glennon was our starter no matter what.

Also, this thread is still stupid and unnecessary.

TOB would have given Wilson the chance to compete. Wilson didn't want to compete. Wilson wanted the starting job and the red carpet rolled out to right under center on opening day

It's not like Wilson can say, "I shouldn't have to compete. Look at the trophy case for my credentials." Oh we've got a Champs Sports Bowl Trophy. Big whoop . Now if Wilson could have taken us to an ACC Championship, then he could have done whatever he wanted.

No one's going to care about he said/she said 6 months from now. All that's going to matter is who has a better season, and fairly or not, that will determine for most people whether TOB made the right decision or not.

Wisconsin will be one of the favorites to win the Big Ten, and be a potential National Championship contender now that they have a capable, experienced QB in RW. I think the best that we can realistically hope for is 2nd in our division, which doesn't mean we can't have a great season with 9 wins again.

^^TOB said Glennon would be the starter regardless when Wilson made it clear he was not going to be at spring practice. It just seemed no one believed him, including Wilson, until Wilson was informed again of coach's decision and asked for his release.

^^ you do realize they practice in the spring, right? and you do realize that he missed every single one of those practices, right? fucking troll.

^ then that's entirely different. If you have a player who won't make a commitment, then that's how you fucking treat him. plain and simple. My post was made because the original guy made it sound like TOB said Russell wasn't gonna start, even before Russell said he wasn't gonna be there for practice

You guys are the biggest douchers ever honestly.

RW was literally a Greek God for this program, we sucked total dicksac the past couple of years and he pulled us out of the gutter to almost compete for an ACC title.

He's gone now, the circumstances are the kind of crazy bullshit that only an NC State fan could ever expect but let's step back into reality for 20 seconds.

I hope he wins the Heisman and National Title at Wisconsin because he deserves it. If he does I'll punch myself right in the testichips like 9 times just to make sure I can still feel feelings.

In the meantime I'll still put drinking #1 and NC state sports at #8 right behind the aforementioned drinking and #2-#7 like wealth, food, comfort, sex, car, and personal happiness.

Stop blaming Mike Glennon, TOB, and RW for all doing what's best for them and start worrying about something more important in your life for 5 fucking minutes. Quit debating other people's career decisions like your input matters to them at all. No one cares that you deflect your personal misery on NC State Athletics.

It's time for this idiot fanbase to grow up. That being said, Fuck UNC.
